That old fire tower looks like an interesting place to visit.
There are heaps of these scattered all over the southwest. I have most of them marked and will be putting a route together to visit them. Thanks for watching.
@@reganrides OK, thanks for the video. Looking for some different places to visit off the beaten track. Probably heading down that way over the Christmas break. Cheers.

@@reganrides Thanks for that. Find that a lot of the tracks down that way sadly have been closed by the authorities.

Good stuff Regan and co.
ps., what size front wheel do you have on the 1150?
The 1090 has a 21 inch front wheel. Probably the one thing about the GSA thats taking a bit to get used too only having a 19 inch front.
Oh bugger its all over minus the replays. Love this, great ideas for us. Planning a Nov trip using Switzers rd and Avondale Rd, Waipiata to Qtown.
Thanks for watching guys we have some local West Australian rides coming up and planning to get back in the new year now. Enjoy your trip south. 😁
@reganrides Really appreciate the effort you put into the tour vids. We're in Sth Canterbury. When you're back next, if you have time, we could catch up at a cafe. Coffee on us.
@@stoneybd Our plan is to do the Banks Peninsula so maybe you guys can help us out. Would be great to catch up..
Absolutely fantastic day of riding - what a trail and amazing views above the clouds. Do you reckon the GSA would have gotten through OK? What happened to the GS you came across by the water?
Your so right great trail and the feeling above the clouds is very cool.. I think the big GSA would do just fine through here i can get both feet flat on the ground with it and the balance is way better with lower centre of gravity than the KTM. That GS had a lay down in the water the guys we passed on the way in where off to get some spare oil.
Great watching,well done.
Thanks for watching our travels..

So many gates!!! But a great route, one of my favourite day rides from Wanaka
Some nice skills there. Calm sensible decision making. Good job.
@@daryllhall285 thanks appreciate the comment and for watching.
Went over a few years ago mid winter from the tarras side , wet , snow , ice, gates , lots of cattle and poo , the scenery up there is spectacular 🎉. It's a great ride.
@@peterdawson7775 it’s a great spot through there that’s for sure but definitely worth going with a friend so you can share gate duties 😜
Gate opening is an apprenticeship.
@@johnworth3184 I think my apprentice still has a year to go. 🤭🤭
Nice vlog Regan I'm surprised how dry it is there, I kinda expect more green stuff around the country side
Love the gate rating system!
Hey guys, am only a pushbiker when I run out of petrol 👋🤠👍
Hey guys! Have you guys done a luggage two-up breakdown??
@@MrPeterRosel we have recently been talking about doing this. We are planning to head off for 4 days coming up so might be a good time to run through what we use and how we pack. Watch this space. Thanks for watching🤙
Another great vid. Love the creative cinematography, bike reflection in the tiny house door. Thanks, again, for providing entertaining vlogs
Waikaia best kept secret in Southland.
Hello there i am interesting to buy this bike because i want to do over 1000 klms every tour. From the day one that you have this bike do you have any damages and how much money did they cost you to fix them And in one a year how much money do you need for maintenance
Nice ride Regan, could have got tricky in the wet lands if you had kept going and the Beemer isn't a light bike if you got bogged. What sort of distance are you getting out of a full tank ? Do you carry extra fuel? Looking forward to the next ride good stuff
Was a great ride. what you didn't see on camera was we did get bogged turning the bike around Yes heavy... But turning around was still a better option than moving forward the water was deep and i know my limits. Fuel consumption is pretty good for big bike with both of us and gear we have been sitting around 5.5 LPH KM so about 550km out of a tank best case. At this stage we don't need to carry extra fuel but we are looking to head north on a trip next year that might see us need to carry some extra. Thanks for watching.
@reganrides it's all experience though, and least you know your limits and getting to know the bikes limits. It can't be easy riding on some of those more technical tracks 2 up , but your doing a great job, both of you.
Hi
Didn’t think you’d get the Rhino turned around on that waterlogged track. Gutsy move. Would you have gone through it on the KTM? What tyres are you running and what soft panniers do you have? Enjoyed the video, thank you.
@@scotthuxtable5121 Ha I would have keep going had the water been shallower was well up over knee height. Wouldn’t have taken the KTM through either but I reckon it would have turned around a little easier 🤷🏼♂️. All our soft panniers are Kriega, we have a full range of different sizes they are tough and fully waterproof great product. Tyres on the bike now are Motoz Tractionator for the rear and Continental TKC80 on the front we now have 100% confidence off-road but have sacrificed the front a little on road with the knobby being a little vibration but I’d rather have the off-road ability. Thanks for watching. 🤙
Nice to see you out and about on the Big BMW, how does it compare as a replacement for the KTM, from rider and pillion perspective
Thanks for watching.. Absolutely loving the new BMW from an offroad touring perspective its more comfortable the power is awesome, having cruise control is a big plus and the sound from that motor is great. With the offroad tyres on it now its every bit as capable in the dirt twoup i am yet to put it through its paces on a solo ride but i am pretty confident it will do just fine. The Pillion is loving all the upgrades that the 1250 has over the KTM, Heated seats are a big win. Seating position is a little better and feels like we could extend the ride time without needing breaks. It will be interesting when we head back to our KTM in NZ next after having the luxuries of the Big BMW..
are you guys using Cardo to record the voice of rider + pillion ?
@@FuzzLife we use the DJI wireless mic to record our sound check this out it shows how we have it setup. ua-cam.com/video/5WRNgmDmp2I/v-deo.htmlsi=0WOaZszq1CdLhtSl
Get XHead covers, they are great.
Hi guys, great vid. Tell me is this trip prior to tyre change?
@@stoneybd yes we are a little out of order with videos. This trip was done on the stock Anakee Adventure tyres. Fantastic road tyre but two up off road we require those more aggressive tyres. Thanks for watching.
@reganrides cheers. We currently have tkc 70 ftont and rear on our 1200gs. Dont seem to be available in NZ now. So, looking for replacements in about 2000km (Dec probably)
Hey, just a question. How do you record your audio from both riders? I noticed that you have your voices panned but the background noise is in stereo. Thanks!
@N8ok We use the DJI Wireless Mice System to capture our sound i have it set to record individual left/right channels for each of us. Check out this video i made of our setup. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/5WRNgmDmp2I/v-deo.htmlsi=i_PuvepgUcM8X87v
Good effort with those tyres and 2 up, I don’t really enjoy the pea gravel so much so prefer to do more trips north of Perth than south
Those tyres are now off the bike after that trip... The rear wasn't to bad but the front was just dangerous.. We are planning to do some trips up north next year .Thanks for watching
Enjoying your content, thank you. 😀
Awesome thanks for watching...
How are you getting on with the boxer? Missing the big V-Twin at all?
Can honestly say not missing the V Twin at all the comfort and torque on the GS is next level. With now having some good tyres the off road riding is so much more enjoyable. Thanks for watching. 🤙
Are you looking at DMD2 for navigation? Integrates very nicely with the BMW handlebar controls and runs on any Android device.
Yes been looking into DMD2 and the Carpe iter Tablet which has all the integration for the BMW. Going to android based is I think the best move as much as Garmin has worked well for us for many years they are just way behind in there apps and usability. With a 7inch tablet we get all the options we could ever need.
Hi Took your advice and signed up to the webpage. I'm looking forward to checking out the gpx files for The South Island
@@stoneybd thanks for joining. There are plenty of files there to help out with your planning and feel free to reach out with any questions.
Can I ask why you didn’t change over to the 1290 SAS/R? I saw that you tested the Tiger, but could see any reference to the latest KTM. Enjoying your videos.
@@scotthuxtable5121 thanks for watching We did actually also test ride the KTM 1290r and the Harley Pan America both really great bikes but at complete opposite ends of the scale the KTM is super off-road oriented just like the 1090 was and we really wanted something more comfortable for adventure touring where the Harley is more on road and not as off road capable as the BMW in our opinion For what we are looking to do we think the BMW has the best road touring along with great off-road also. I think if we weren’t TwoUp then I would have stuck with the KTM 1290 as it is an amazing bike that for sure. We really are spoilt for choice these days with so many bikes on the market. Cheers
Interesting, looking forward to follow your jurney from the other side of the globe :) Do your thing 👍🏼 Cheers // Johan
Thanks for watching. 🤙
Nice to see some good riding 2 up.
@@totaratree99 thanks for watching. We had great fun doing this definitely tested a few skills but well worth it.

Having a re-watch of episodes in our neck of the woods Looking forward to spring, Mackenzie pass and Haka pass on the wish list.
@@stoneybd the Haka pass was a great ride really enjoyed it and will definitely try do it again on upcoming trips.
Another great video guys , and well done on quite a challenging road 2 up . Hope all is going well over in WA
@@davidellis9358 thanks for watching. Yes very happy to get probably the most challenging track we have done to date but was so worth it. Life has still been a little slow here not much bike riding while I still recover from being unwell. The flip side is I’ve had time to get these videos done for the channel and start planning some local trips so we are looking forward to getting back out on the trails again soon. 🤙
Great vid. I’ve done this road in both directions in my old vintage car. It’s a steep climb up from the Benmore Dam end, but the views are amazing.
Well done bloody big effort 👍
@@johnworth3184 Thanks we had pretty good conditions. It’s a great track so glad we got to tick it off the list.
Hi rewatching as I think I've missed bits. Great fun. Id be interested to know what tyres you're using and comment on their sealed road behavior. Thanks.
@@stoneybd we are using Continental TKC 80 on the front which I think is a great tyre amazing off-road and still very predictable on road with not to much road noise, the rear is Motoz Tractionator adventure this my go to rear tyre I consistently get 10k km out of these and again a great off-road tyre some say they are terrible on wet sealed roads but I never push the limits in the wet so have never had any problems with it. They do become a little noisy as they wear. Tyres are a hard thing to get right as there is always a compromise for us we would rather have better off road use and just ride a little slower and not push the limits on road. Hope this helps thanks again for watching. 😁
Best bike for it ,1090R I luv mine.
@@Crust2013 great bikes for sure. We have moved on our 1090 here in Australia for a new BMW r1250gsa which I must say is extremely comfortable and I’ve been very surprised just how capable the bike is. We are certainly keeping the 1090 in NZ as we haven’t even been into the North Island yet. Thanks for watching 🤙
I was took an 1100 Ford escort up the old Dunstan Road once....fun times but incredible views
I can imagine the fun had taking the escort up and over the hill while enjoying the views. 🤙
I grew up in Central Otago and as a kid all I wanted was a motorbike to go and explore all the awesome tracks there, but my mum was one of those worrying types, wouldn't let me have one because she thought I'd immediately die. So, I did what I could on my BMX and later my mountain bike, but there's only so far you can go on a mountain bike in a day and still be back in time for tea. Now, all these years later I'm about to purchase my very first motorbike and I can't wait to get back to Central and ride all of the tracks I wanted to ride as a kid. I couldn't quite catch it, which bike are you guys riding?
@KiwiPokerPlayer Thanks for sharing how you over come not being allowed a motorbike during your younger years Better late than never I’m sure you will make up for lost time and as you well know Central Otago is an amazing place to explore. Bike is a 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure. Thanks for watching. 👌
Wow, what a stunning ride. Another fantastic road for my wish list.
It really is a fantastic ride only made better by having great weather.
Another great ride! Thanks for sharing. Love the banter and that pipe sounds mint - is that the stock exhaust? Looking forward to part 2!
Thanks for watching. I’ve never really been one for loud pipes and this was on the bike when we brought it, I must say I do quite like it though. It’s an akropovich pipe but I think it’s off a 450 or 500 as its different to the one made for the 1090.
Might try and fit this one into our trip 😊
This one is a must do ride. On a nice day the views are stunning.
Great video! What intercom are you running? The sound quality is very good. (Also what tyres?). Cheers! 👍
Thanks for watching our travels much appreciated. For intercoms we run the Sena 30K which we find to be great. For sound capture on the video we use the DJI wireless mic system which is fantastic as it allows both sides of the conversation to be recorded to the video and makes editing much easier. As for tyres we run the Motoz Tractionator adventure on the rear and Continental TKC80 on the front. Safe riding. 🤙
