CLUBBING IS CULTURE // WHERE WILL WE DANCE NOW?
This collaborative Clubbing is Culture project is being live streamed from an empty dance floor in Jam Park, Dublin. It features major projection art which the team captured over the last few days with tweets from Irish ravers and club goers as well as iconic club footage which highlights the importance of clubbing in our city. The canvas? Some of the most iconic former clubbing venues which have since been replaced. The sounds? A binaural track of nightclub ambience to transport you to those unforgettable, unmistakable Dublin club nights. Best listened to with headphones in. See you on the dance floor.

CLUBBING IS CULTURE
Clubbing is Culture. Because it is.
As we continue to see the eradication of spaces to dance and face the repercussions of living through a pandemic, we wanted to encourage people to see clubbing for what it was - culture - and something you have to work hard to nurture and protect. As with all culture, if it’s not nourished and given space to grow, it will die. And whilst it may not be * your * culture, that does not invalidate the fact that clubbing is indeed, culture.
This mini doc features the voices of five prominent cultural commentators and creators against a backdrop of light projections on some of the most iconic former clubbing venues in Dublin.
Hazel Chu - Dublin Lord Mayor
Philly McMahon - ThisIsPopBaby
Mona Lxsa - founder of Gxrl Code
Una Mullally - Writer & co-presenter of United Ireland
John Mangru - Designer & Clubber
NoMoreHotels; Thinkhouse & Algorithm joined forces on Culture Night, an event that seeks to ‘Connect Through Culture’, to highlight the value of clubbing for connection; what’s lost when we dismiss its value and to reinforce the fact that clubbing is indeed, culture.
The carcasses of some of the most iconic former clubbing venues which have since been replaced with hotels came alive again with light projections of scenes of what has gone before and with pleas of where we need to go.
If clubbing continues to be excluded from the traditional definition of culture in people’s minds, we’ll see the eradication of a culture that has persevered through some of humanity’s hardest times, has helped people survive and thrive and has been the catalyst for some of fashion, art, theatre and music’s most iconic moments. Culture.
With this project, we celebrate the fact that clubbing brings people together, it provides growth, art and identity - as well as a rich economy. We celebrate how clubbing enables us to communicate, create and connect in unique and magical ways.

I'm on a masters course and doing a project on music marketing - can anyone help me name some of the values that come with clubbing culture? Thanks in any case
sure thing - get in touch hello@thinkhousehq.com
Jaysus, this gang are the kind of people you would be sick to be stuck with at a session or a night out
God damn... made me think about playing in the Pod and Crawdaddy.. so much fun! so many connections made. Good work guys, lets hope Ireland eventually (and once and for all) lets go of catholisim and aligns with the rest of the EU so all the amazing artists can thrive again
Not so much of a mini-doc as it is an interview series
Bloody right clubbing is culture 💃😎🥳🥳💨👀🕺👣🎶
I had hoped this would be more than people taking and saying what a shame the night clubs are gone.
Not one scene of a club with people dancing and enjoying themselves to illustrate the point ... talking heads
Well done on this.
Clubbing has been a massive part of my life 41 and wouldn't change it for the world. Ireland is backwards on the topic do unaccepting it has too change it would do great if we actually if we had laws too go with the times. Maybe for my kids it might be changed 😉😉😉😂😂
The Keith Haring T-shirt is class 00:44
YASS!
The absolute state of Ireland, this is pathetically stupid.....
I remenber going to the Redbox for the 1st time, walking down the steps beside the sound engineer booth, into the dry ice with a real sound system, projections, stage and dance floor. It was like walking into another world. 22 years on, I'll never forget it. Of course it is culture, it gives an output for peoples creativity it influences fashion, pop culture, graphic design, computer games etc. It helps create friendships that survive past their clubbing years. Redbox/POD, The Kitchen, Issac Butts, Switch, Tivoli... my kids won't have places like this when they hit their teens and twenties if the situation doesn't change and I feel sad about that.
Interesting video I just wish our current Lord mayor Hazel Chu had more power to do something positive about it because its clear she really cares.
Defund greyhound racing and fund the nightclubs
deeply relate to the Galway races comparison 👏🏼
