Founded in 1965 in Princeton, NJ. One of the first girl groups to play instruments & do 4-part harmony. Burning members were Molly York-bass, Dodie Pettit-lead gtr, Sheri Oman-lead vo, Dodie’s sis Kathy Pettit-drums, Geri Lombardo-rhythm gtr. After mostly free gigs, they played clubs on Princeton's Prospect Ave, wearing micro miniskirts. Gigs included the 1966 Prince Tiger Dance @ Princeton U with Jr Walker & All Stars, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, The Lemon Pipers, The Critters and Lester Lanin Orchestra, as well as Jerry Blavat’s TV Dance Party, The Zachery TV Show, and Ed Hurst’s Aquarama TV show. In ‘67-68, the Palace Theater, Broadway, Central Park and Bryant Park for Helena Rubinstein events; & The Electric Circus on St Marks Place, opening for such acts as The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd & Deep Purple, and for The Beach Boys at Rider College. Summer ’67, they met Iggy Pop & Stooges in Greenwich Village, before their fame. They refused to believe them when the girls said they also had a band, so Geri & Dodie said come to NJ to hear them rehearse in the basement of Geri’s parent’s house. The band gave Iggy & Co. a mini concert & they were sufficiently convinced. In 1967, Jeanette Huber replaced Molly York on bass, just after The Untouchable got new management, Koppelman & Rubin, in NY. K & R managed The Lovin Spoonful, Barbra Streisand & The Turtles. They got producer John Boylan to record “Toll Booth” & “Sounds of Happiness/ Way to Fly” for intended single release under a new name chosen for them - “Calliope”. However, the band broke up in early '69 before that could happen.

Before this video, I'd never heard of The Untouchable...now they're in my top three fave New Jersey all-girl groups of the late 60s.... Una Untouchable, Ulla Untouchable, Ursula Untouchable and their cousin Ulrika Untouchable.

Hmm. I lived Princeton '58 to much later, off and on, to 97. Didn't pay attention to music until went to P.U fall '69; day student The Lawrenceville School, after Princeton Country Day. Chris Reeve year younger there...Hughie Lewis really H Cregg the third...2 years older at L'ville. Fine baseball player...was told. University very right wing back then, very racist, sexist. Town became super gentrified...200 year old roads inadequate Skirm''s Smoke Shop became...the PARFUMERIE. Thorne's drug store, family>>...CVS... Stuff and Nonsense went with the wind... Nice cover song.
