I'm not really sure if it is the best time to ask but, I was wondering if I could help you create a better distribution by working on post-production like better storytelling through Edits, Keywords, think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested and keep creating good content:)

Therapists like to use the label "high risk" to describe suicidal clients or clients that the therapist wishes to get rid of. My own therapist told me I was high risk to my face. Labels are demeaning and a self fulfilling prophecy. So glad I'm on my own path of recovery where I feel safe. I no longer see therapists

I really like Ginger's story and her genuineness. Her courage is a model for me, and she shows the kind of matter-of-factness and no apologies that I imagine comes from the many times she has shared her story. I am hopeful to be able to show that kind of authenticity myself as I grow. Judene's gentle questioning provided Ginger opportunities to reflect on personal challenges that are not easy to explain. Very inspiring. Thank you, Ginger. Thank you, Judene.

The majority of guardianships involve those deemed as "developmentally disabled" (f.k.a.: "mentally retarded"; a term that's very demeaning. Likewise w/"mentally ill"); especially those whom participate in Special Olympics (an organization that's very hypocritical RE: abuse & bullying).

8:40 Issues with anger. Anger is a motivator. People can perform both legal and illegal acts when feeling anger, but without anger somethings do not get done or things do not change. Politician here in my area put Anger as equal to mental illness, when it is just a feeling. T. Szasz wrote they have converted the classic seven sins into mental illness, to be controlled by drugs. Actions are legal or illegal. ua-cam.com/video/NYW_ibEHQxY/v-deo.html . Preventing crime before it happens by drugging people is psychiatry, but the drugs don't always work.

In order 2 rehumanize mental health; it shall b DE-CRIMINALIZED!!!!! In other words; BAN INVOLUNTARY TREATMENT/HOSPITALIZATIONS!!!!! In the state of Michigan (where I from); here's an excerpt of their mental health code as follows: Upon entry of a court order hospitalizing you, that court order is entered into the LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network). Here's the problem w/that; the majority of mental health petitions seeking involuntary hospitalizations r heard by the PROBATE COURT (NOT CRIMINAL COURT such as District, Circuit, etc.)!!!!! There4; any1 who has a "clean" criminal record can definitely b treated like a criminal bc of an involuntary hospitalization. That's bc court-ordered hospitalizations r public record & as a result, this becomes a breeding ground 4 mental profiling (similar 2 racial profiling except it pertains 2 some1's mental health status). That; it turn, blatantly violates HIPAA & discrimination laws. Basically; being classified/labeled as "mentally ill" &/or having (a) "mental illness(es)" is demeaning, shameful, & stigmatizing in the exact same manner as "mentally retarded" & "mental retardation" r deemed as such by the mental health system (which, BTW, is a branch of the criminal justice system but uses medical personnel 2 cover up their FBS). Furthermore; since mental health personnel luv comparing mental health conditions 2 diabetes as it pertains 2 medication "compliance", it begs the following,"?". R diabetics subjected 2 involuntary court-orders that 4ces them on insulin? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! So y must some1 suffering from depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc. b 4ced 2 take medication that's been proven 2 cause more harm than benefit? Once again; court-ordered mental health "treatment" shall b ABOLISHED!!!!! Until that occurs; mental health will b regarded as a criminal justice (not medical) issue.

This man seeks to give those who were denied their full humanity as free persons via the sometimes coercive practices common in psychiatric settings, some voice & choice...something that is not well appreciated unless you have been denied those freedoms as a psychiatric patient or have / had loved ones who were "treated". Anti psychiatry is not really necessary...just an acknowledgement that people do not have brain diseases or chemical imbalances would be enough...but there is much more money to be made by writing a prescription every 15 minutes, instead of sitting with someone who is distressed in a calm, non judgemental way. The years & people lost to the prevailing myths that people are ill due to having a completely understandable human response to adversity, is unfortunately, too many. The system of drugging, labelling & automatically telling people they are "unwell" really needs to come into the 21st century.

To me personally, eCPR is so extremely useful as a daily practice in so many contexts. I have learnt not to fix, judge, advise or interrogate - but to just be, to have deeper compassion, to quieten my mind and truly listen, to check in with my feelings first, and to respond with how I feel. As that is the only true reality I can ever know. Everything else is a transference. It is very healing.

I think it is important to note that this is a tool that should be used in conjunction with accredited therapy. I did the training for eCPR and it can open wounds and traumas. If you don't have support available if something big is triggered, it can be (re)traumatizing. As a colleague put it, CPR is meant to revive people before they get professional attention. The same should apply to eCPR.

Formal therapy can be useless for many people that may feel more helped by eCPR or some other kind of "non-professional" help. People are free to choose whatever they want to deal with their emotional distress and tough times in life.

Hi Kelly-Joy, thank you for this very important comment. I feel that such as physical CPR can be administered by anyone in the community who has been trained - and is not needing to be an accredited/registered health worker, so too is emotional CPR a global community education and a community response. As humans, the key intention of eCPR is that we will do our best, to our individual ability, to support others during their emotional distress; empowering them as they make their own decisions around what they may choose to do next; rather than walking away and abandoning them, or further isolating and alienating them with their current emotional distress, or mental health discomfort. So, such as a trained first aider chooses whether to attend to someone with immediate physical wounds, then refers them on, or hands them over to more qualified people, or calls an ambulance, - as eCPR practitioners, I feel, we also make choices. We too support the person to see professionals for follow up and ongoing support, particularly if they have found that to be useful for them. But, that is something for that person to consider, not me - as many people have had traumatic experiences when navigating mental health systems. Same as a person with physical wounds, that person makes their own choices whether to go to the hospital, doctor, or not, etc (unless unconscious etc of course - note this is an analogy). So, I think you have captured the CPR analogy perfectly, and this is a great reminder for us when training others, to ensure new and existing eCPR practitioners are not 'opening wounds', rather, we, like physical CPR first aiders, are choosing to be the initial person of initial emotional support, and that we be with others within a compassionate framework within our personal abilities, skills and knowledge. To me personally, eCPR is so extremely useful as a daily practice in so many contexts. I have learnt not to fix, judge, advise or interrogate - but to just be, to have deeper compassion, to quieten my mind and truly listen, to check in with my feelings first, and to respond with how I feel. Kelly-Joy, As one of the developers of eCPR, as a person with lived experience and as a psychiatrist, I would like to address your concerns. First, as Susanne noted, we recommend that if the person assisted continues to be as distressed or more after eCPR as before we recommend the supporter help refer them for professional assistance. Unfortunately there are long waiting lines for professionals and finances can also be a barrier. We teach our students to take a trauma informed approach, ever mindful that by connecting and empowering the person in distress we are reducing two of the central causes of trauma: isolation and disempowerment (see Dr Judith Herman’s work). We also schedule follow up meetings of the class. In addition, we train members of the person’s own community to be teachers and thereby use a culturally attuned approach. That way eCPR can assist people who would not otherwise seek mental health services. The eCPR practitioner can then build trust and encourage otherwise reluctant community members to seek mental health care. We call this Community eCPR.
