Welcome to my channel about motorsports (diecast) models. I used to do my reviews on my previous channel, Diecast Reviewer. All new content will be added here exclusively.
The main theme will be F1, mostly scale 1/18. I do have other motorsports related subjects like half scale helmets and cars and bikes from other disciplines of the world of motorized sports. I'll be posting unboxing video's, reviews, collection overviews and much more! Any bias to any particular brand is purely based on a personal feeling about the modelcar or brand in question.
Enjoy and don't forget to like, comment and subscribe.
You can follow me on Instagram or DM me there. Click on the IG link in the picture above!

as usual, great job. I've got to look at your library in future to see if you have reviewed a model that I am preparing for review. Being new to F1 there are lots of parts and pieces of which I have no knowledge about. I just recently reviewed the Spark 1/43 scale model of this exact car (without the cool figure). The Spark model is quite good and close to the detail of your model.
Great Model. As an American I agree with you in regard to BLM. What a sham.
very nice review, thanks
Thanks for watching!
THE BOY DONT HAVE THE BRICKS TO PASS ME ON THE OUTSIDE
That one was for Harry!
Question: do you think the rear wheels on this particular model would fit on the BBR version?
I mean, you could always try... I have often thought of getting a part from one car and put in on another, but it's risky.
The good thing about Spark F1 models from 80s is that they get the wheels/tyres correct in terms of details and proportions and tyre decals. Though this one, it seems the Pirelli logos are too large. GP Replicas are pretty hopeless at getting wheel/tyre /tyre markings proportions accurate. The thing that annoys me about Spark is why their steering wheels are so thin and often have silver spokes on their 1/43 models at least when they should be black. Ideally, you would want Spark proportions with GP Replicas details.
Spark shaping the model and GPR adding small details would be a great combination, they should consider working together!
Thanks for sharing this! Been seeing this and their other cars on store shelves lately. Definitely caught my attention, I was only looking at their f1 cars but didn’t pick any up because their nose cone design could be better I feel. This Audi looks pretty good actually. Will definitely keep an eye on their future release.
It's a nice little build this one. Nothing too special though, but very decent.
How do you keep up with new modelcar news? Do you have like any blogs or sites to check out?
DiecastSociety is one of the sources. I follow pretty much all the model manufacturers on socials too.

Nice! Just a general question have you used micro set or Mr Mark Softer for decals that are not applied 100% by factory to mould the decal to to the panel gaps?
No, I did not touch this model at all.
Are there 4 camera pods on each car? Two behind the nose. One above the engine pod and one on either side if it? I also agree with you about the helmet and cockpit of the Mini Champs. As expected, your observations are dead on. You have me look at my cars more critically.
Don't remember really, I don't think either one has missing camera pods on them. I think they are pretty accurate.
I purchased my first Mini Champs F1 a month ago. I was very disappointed with the ugly, crappy cheap Mini Champs base/ box. I do not remove models from the bases and display them as such. Therefore, base quality and appearance are important. Admittedly, I have the standard Mini Champs issues rather than the CK Models limited edition. If all Mini Champs models had the base and package you have, my opinion might be better. Otherwise, I think both models are comparative. That being said, I am a self-admitted Spark Snob.
I think Minichamps keep using the same style of boxes for the sake of continuity. I'm not sure many 'older' collectors would enjoy them suddenly change their packaging style. With the 1/18 models it's even worse. I don't really display my models in their packaging or display case even, so I don't really mind.
I purchased a couple of newer 1/43 Mini Champs F1 by mistake, thinking they were Spark. Thank God they came on black bases but same crappy construction. Look much better
I have the #5 of Dumbreck on preorder in 1:43. As I already have the Webber, Schneider, Ludwig LM 1998 pole car I thought it would make my collection more diverse to get some new drivers in Heidfeld and Dumbreck (who won Japanese F3 in 1998). Also the #5 is a DNF not DNS do that's cooler for me, I think the Dumbreck flip is the most infamous, plus it was shown live. The #5 model comes with the canards / dive planes. Also I think the blue mirrors are cool. The 1 43 original versions became quite expensive so I'm pleased they re-released them. They also now have the info on the plinth, and come with the decals applied. The original release didn't. Is this the first spark release of the CLR in 1:18 ? Great video with the history and then the model review, enjoyed watching.
Spark first released the Loh Museum Collection model in this scale. The nr. 4 is out now and the other will follow soon I think.
i feel like i should make a driving replica of the CLR now...
About the tires: the real CRL's had Bridgestone Potenza lettering on them at least during scruteneering at Le Mans in 1999, but were devoid of lettering on track. Strange Spark decided to only apply a Bridgestone sticker, without adding a Potenza one.
Update: it could have been a licensing issue. Brilliant model nonetheless.
They might have noticed it too late that the car actually mostly ran without the tyre lettering. It also depends on which reference pictures they use. It doesn't say anywhere this is the practice version, or the qualifying spec, or even the warm-up car, so hard to say... One thing is certain, it's not the race spec ;)!
That's another possibility, yes
This review is a true masterpiece. Very detailed and well researched story part. I really enjoyed watching it. The model has a great overall impression, even if I think the tire markings are a major mistake. In the pictures you showed of the crash in the warm up, the tires have no markings. I hope to get another car from the sports car sector before Christmas with the Looksmart Ferrari 296 GT3 24h Nürburgring winner from 2023 in 1:18. I hope Looksmart does a good job...
Many thanks once again! Oh, I love the Frikadelli Racing Ferrari, great choice of model! From the pictures you can already tell it's very good, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Fantastic videos. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the Superthanks, @tomn8998, my first dono!!
This might be your best historical and car review. SUPERB. The Spark model is fantastic, as I would expect (I did a video entitled: Are you a Spark Snob). I really like Sparks attention to detail and your ability to point all of it out. I really wish that I collected 1/18 as well as times like this. Thanks, and thumbs up, would give a triple thumbs up if possible.
PS: what you refer to as kinards ans many others winglets, are dive planes.
Hi Mark, thanks for the kind words! You've noticed I really enjoyed making this video a lot, and I think it really shows. For sure it's one of the best ones I've made to date indeed. I loved the subject too, I was actually planning on making a review of the Dumbreck version, but couldn't wait anymore when I saw this nr.4 car! This model is just incredible in the flesh! About the 'canards', it's just another word for dive planes, but maybe I don't pronounce it correctly? It's used more in aeronautical fields I guess, but I've seen these being mentioned in technical articles. Could be a European vs American thing? www.formula1-dictionary.net/canards.html Cheers!
My pleasure. I'm sure you know that the term "winglets" is abused quite a bit as well. I found so many good and well skilled reviewers, identify some many parts incorrectly that it prompted me to a video on: The anatomy of a race car". I wish that someone would do that for F1. Mercedes do a good job (on You Tube) at that but not enough. Fortunately reviewers much more educated about F1 have answered most of my questions. I wish I had better models of your Mercedes. I have (2) Mercedes Dealer editions by Maesto. Porsche does Spark, BMW and Audi do Mini Champs but Mercedes, Maesto. Models that are supposed to be sold to loyal and well to do customers deserve better in my opinion. Thanks again for uploading the best in class.
Your video is a reminder of just how beatiful this car was. Saw it at Le Mans back in the day, and remember the silence around the track when we saw the Dumbreck crash unfold on the big screen…
The real car was a stunner indeed! Thankfully this model is every bit as gorgeous. Usually, I get a bit bored of the models I make a review of. This one I can't get tired of looking at!
The rear wing is 100 percent straight and 100 percent horizontal, which is great - Spark strangely doesn't always get this right, like on their 1/18th version of the 1998 Le Mans winning Porsche 911 GT1.
I never noticed that on the Porsche, but I haven't seen one in the flesh either. I really love that car too, now I know what to look out for when buying that model!
I remember watching the 5 car flip live too; I couldn't believe what I was watching...!!
It's one of those moments where the thing you thought could never happen just happened! Since the internet was not yet such a thing, I only saw it flashing by live and a few more replays during the broadcast. I remember seeing a clip of the Porsche 911 GT1 doing a salto too at the 1998 Petit Le Mans in the Eurosport WATTS specials too, just incredible images. I never knew this was such a common occurence in Sportscars.
@@rpsmodelcarreviews Ah, pre-internet - better times in so many ways - take me back!! Yes, I remember "WATTS" 😅. Random clips from a whole range of sports that Eurosport would just randomly broadcast 😅.
Which brand is better
They both have their good and lesser parts. It really depends from model to model and in the end it comes down to personal taste.
Love these in depth reviews! 👏
Cheers, thanks for the support!
Hey RPS Reviews, Gordon Murray had a negligible influence on the McLaren MP4/4.
Indeed! That's why I said the design team led by Steve Nichols created the mp4/4, not Murray. Gordon was part of the Mclaren technical team at the time though, but I'm not saying he was the main protagonist by any means. The whole 'who created the mp4/4' is contentious affair to say the least.
I prefer the BBR model but I was able to buy the looksmart model for 125€ on F1store
I think you make a good argument for GP Replicas, a company I am not familiar with, as they seem to have made a superior product. I am a self-admitted Spark snob as in 1/43 scale, the majority of what I collect, and they do a very good job. I am also aware of other higher end manufacturers that do even better work for a price. Is GP Replica's one of those as BBR would be compared to Spark?
I'm not a fan at all of GP Replicas. They often get the models very wrong, and ask a lot of money for it. They try to cover this up by adding fine details to the model, but that's like dressing up a pig. It's still a pig in the end. Having said that, they sometimes produce a decent model, like their version of the Brabham BT55. It's still not great though, but acceptable. Generally I would rank the more known model brands as such: Bburago/Hot Wheels > GP Replicas (the bad models) > Solido > MCG > Minichamps > Spark/Looksmart > BBR > GP Replicas (the good models) > CMC > Amalgam > Exoto. This of course can vary wildy from model to model and is not taking into account the price/quality ratio. Spark does a terrific job on the Le Mans and classic 1/43 F1 models though, so I get that you're a fan of those releases. Usually their 1/18 versions are very good too, but lately it seems they only scale up the models and don't add any additional details. They tend to make a lot of small mistakes too nowadays, which is a real shame.
It seems that Spark has been delivering some subpar 1/18th scale models these past few months. Their versions of the Le Mans winning cars of 1989, 1995 and 2003 come to mind as well.
Indeed, it's quite surprising to see this decline from Spark. I was considering getting the Wolf WR1 model from them, but now I kinda have second thoughts... *In the meantime I even found another mistake on the BT55 model. The Olivetti branding on the rear wing should be limited to the middle plane and not cover the top one!
👍🫶
Thanks!
I was just mentioned in the video, how cool is that? Please excuse the late reply but I really enjoyed the review. The car is unique but, like all Spark models, it is really well implemented. I've definitely put it on my list, Black Week is coming soon 😉
@@moritzlohle4082 I didn't know if enough people would be interested in seeing a full review of it, but you inspired me to make a video of it after all!
Hey I’m not a huge Lego fan but I’m starting to purchase them little by little for my kids. Where would you buy these specific pieces for the Porsche?
@@frojo416 You would have to write down all the parts list in the instructions and search the pieces on a website like Bricklink. It's a bit complicated of you have never ordered anything there though.
Wow. This review gets Kudus alone for its different race car. That being said, can't say that is my sort of thing. Appreciate your work. In my opinion, Spark is the best at what they do and that is evident with this car. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It's not for everyone, indeed. Spark did a real good job on it though, I'm very impressed.
Very cool model with awesome details for the scale! I've read about this car before and watched some old videos of it. These weird (mostly) one off cars also fascinated me. I loved the Dacia Logan from the 24h Nürburgring or the Nascar Garage 56 Entry of Le Mans I also love these crazy one of vehicles like the Renault Espace F1 beast, the various Ford Supervans or the Aston Martin Cygnet V8
Never knew there was a Dacia Logan racer in the VLN, very unusual car to race with aswell! I had a Espace F1 by Otto in 1/18, I sadly sold it a few years ago though...
What’s your thoughts on the Zylon position? The large gap between the “Red Bull” and the logo really bothers me. I had to move the Zylon a bit up. Vents and tear posts need an HSA upgrade but otherwise pretty ok.
That's one of the many things to improve on this mini helmet sadly. At first sight it looks quite good, but there are a lot of areas that need some work.
@nunosan83 Where can one buy half scale accessories? I tried getting permission to join that Facebook page but unfortunately it seems like no one is manning the ship over there.😂
@@paulo9504 the FB group is the only option. It’s a bit slow at the moment due to some issues, but they’re still getting things made 👍🏻
@nunosan83 Has this Facebook for Half Scale Accessories gone poof?😂 Did a search for it and it doesn't show up.🤔
Where can i buy it?
The instructions you can buy on the likes of Mocsmarket or on DDNTube's website. The bricks you have to order separately, it's all explained on the website.
Just got mine yesterday. Pretty sweet.😂
Very sweet indeed. As I say in the video, I actually already forgot I ordered it, so it was a nice suprise when it arrived.
I now have the Spark version of this car. It is also very nice. Have had to buy the Vuse decals separately, though.
Shame they don't include them anymore with the modelcars. A bit strange Minichamps suddenly does apply them to the model. Same goes with their Alonso Renaults with Mild Seven branding on it.
Quick question please. Do you know of a site with a database of all the F1 diecast models done by BBR? Thanks
Since they have all been produced in collaboration with Minichamps, I guess the Minichamps site is the place to be. Just type in BBR in the search area, I bet they are all featured on there.
Awesome review. I have loads of Bburago models but I'm thinking of slowly change them to BBR so i started looking on UA-cam to see if it's worth it. You convinced me. I found one brand new for £180.
The change up from Bburago to BBR is quite a step! For this car, the BBR is the best value I think. Nicer details than the Looksmart and not ridiculously expensive like the Amalgam.
This car also is still in development according to Sparks website
It should be released anytime soon I guess. The Penske versions are being released at this very moment. I guess the Jota will follow shortly.
Would you ever sell this? been looking around and cant find any any 2012 singapore helmets
Not in the forseeable future, no. Keep looking, you'll find one in the end! The hunt is part of the enjoyment of collecting, good luck!
Were did you but this from ?
I got mine from Race Passion Store in Belgium.
Hot wheels premium<mini gt<tarmac global 64<tarmac hobby 64<lcd model<kyosho<tlv
As far as collectibes, yes, not in terms of detail. The Hot Wheels Premiums also don't use the exact measurements, but alter them slightly to look better in small scale. They are often wider, have bigger wheels and more pronounced features than the real cars. The Tarmac or Mini GT don't look as spectacular, but are far more accurate.
@rps_reviews lcd and tlv are insane tho
THats why i buy elite, these look cheap ,very toy like!
Unfortunately the Elites too looked a bit toylike still. It was like dressing up a pig, it's still a pig underneath. Since there never was an Elite version of the 248, you didn't have any alternative to the regular Hot Wheels. In fact, there have not been any re-releases by real modelcar makers for the Schumacher 2000-06 cars, except maybe for Amalgam.
Sick!!!
You bet, amazing MOC by SFH Bricks!
You should check out some inno64, they rival or sometimes edges out TarmacWorks
Love your sheer knowledge of all things F1. The fact that you have an eye for details, and it shows. I prefer Spark overall.
