If I were there I would be dying from an allergic reaction to dust 😭
It's a queen Anne cabinet😂😂😂
Yes, you are correct!
with new bun feet and cross grain mouldings. Originally had bracket feet . Probably has seen a lot of changes in its lifetime. Hopefully, it's good for the next generation.
The tassel shake ❤
Large one on top and place some plants underneath.
Yesss restore it

Better check your riving knife for this shit
My anxiety doubles watching this
Talk about a kickback situation.

Thanks for the thumbs up!!.
I bet that STINKS.
Yes, it has a smell but not unpleasant . Hope you liked the video. Mark
This'll have the lefties going crazy. For the first time in my life, I'd agree with a lefty. Why promote an animal product when there are hundreds and hundreds of alternatives that don't require the unnecessary slaughter of animals?
Not a debate I'm going to get into. It's an opinion and has its arguments. A video that demonstrated the use ability of a product that has been around for centuries. Hope you liked the video. Mark
So what's the point exactly 🤔
Making new wood look old 😀
The point is making new wood look old. It is the back of an antique pub sign . So the back needs to look as old as the painting.
Looks worn out and dirty. Ready for the curb.
The best handles ❤
👍
A nice chest with good veneers and yes, solid brass handles. Normally, they are brass plated. I was quite surprised. Didn't want to clean too much and lose the age. Thanks for liking. Mark
Saw these at auction today and waited patiently till I got them.
Like that glue pot ,no tool worshipping here !
Nice work ! Are you located in Minnesota?
Thank you. No, I live in England Oxfordshire. Been here a long time.
For some reason this brought to mind an auction I attended in Scotland, so much beautiful furniture. One lady was bidding on a bedroom set, sold individually, she won the bed then the wardrobe, then the night stand then the dressing table all for a few pounds each. When it came to the turn of the chest of drawers the room went mad with bids much to the chagrin of the lady who wanted the complete set. The bidding, by dealers, went quite high until the auctioneer said that he allowed it to see how far they would go and ended up giving it to the lady for the same price as the dressing table. The dealers were mad as hell, the lady delighted ! A the same auction my sister wanted to buy me an antique hand sewing machine, beautiful in it's original case and the hammer went down at 3 pounds but the bidding kept on going higher and higher until once more the auctioneer gave it to me for the hammer price telling the dealers to be faster of the mark next time ! I drove back to France from the highlands in a French 'Deux Chevaux' and THREE chests of drawers !! We had to shoe horn them and us into the car !

Beautiful chest of drawers. Is it British, European, and do you know the age of the piece? Thanks.
Hi . Yes, it's an English 18th-century walnut chest of drawers. Price can very depending where its sold. Can be £1000.00 up to £2500.00. Thanks for asking. Mark
If you wet the other side with hot water from the pot you'll not have it curling.
The veneers, when removed from an 18 century chest can be very thick. Once it's removed, it can become rigid and just snap if you try to lay it flat. I just wet it and then clamp it under a flat board. Once it is flat, you are able to apply glue and push the excess glue out without breaking the veneers. Then, clamp it flat while it sets. If you have any more questions, just ask. Hope I explained OK. Mark
@Markgroethe No, you misunderstood, when you took a new piece of crossbanding and glued it to the ground wood you brushed glue on one side. If you do that to any veneer it makes it curl, or buckle, especially if its a piece of crotch or similar. The secret is to wet the veneer all over with hot water, that evens out the stresses. If you are hammer veneering you can wet the back of the veneer with glue, that makes the hammer slip nicely over the veneer too.
I see what you are saying. The walnut I made for the moulding was 10 mm thick, so the animal glue holds it down tight . Sometimes, you need to pin it or tape it or clamp it in place. When using veneers that are thin and could curl up, doing exactly what you said is correct. Thanks again for asking. Mark
I will be following with great interest. Work on your titles might help with the algorithm
Thank you, I have just noticed that and started doing just that. Open to any questions or anything you might like to see. Will work hard to improve over all. Thanks again. Mark
It's coming along nicely , considering the state it was in.
Looks terrible
They all look impossible, but i seem to get it done.
@@rediscova2024 impossibly bad
Good grief... where was it kept ?
This was a chest of drawers sold through auction . Bought by a dealer, then given to me to restore. Hopefully, it has a good chance of being sold again and find a new home. Thanks for the comment. Hopefully, you will be a regular follower. Mark
Usually when a restoration is announced something is restored. Looking forward to a fuller video.
Hi, sorry about the late reply . The dresser is a typical country Irish dresser. I would guess it would date about 1860s. Not really sure. Often brightly painted. It's a style that slowly grows on you. Thanks for watching. Mark
Any idea how old this piece is?
Looks like quite a project!
Yes it was. Thanks for the reply. Will be doing more projects this week . Hope to get a bit better at my videos. Thanks Mark
This is new to me. Please leave a comment on what is interesting ,if anything. I would like to get better at this .Mark
This is my first video of the restoration involved in making this antique painted Irish dresser. More videos to come shortly , but this is a bit new to me . Mark
