I taught safety in Canada for ten years, and totally disagree with Nathan about two things. I never move to the right as I approach a left turner. Everything we do can be a signal to other drivers. When you move to the right, it can be misconstrued as you signaling that you may be turning right. I never flash my light to draw attention. A lot of people see that as the rider saying "Go ahead, and turn in front of me!" I do slow down, and watch the left turner like a hawk, and I will turn my high beams on if I don't already have them on. When it's sunny, my high beams are on all the time. Something few people mention is conspicuity. When I started wearing a bright yellow helmet, I noticed that instances of drivers not seeing me dropped off considerately .
