Lovely delivery... Thank you. It was so clear and helpful
I am so glad you found it helpful and it clarified things for you!!
Dr. Morrissey, I will need to consult with you about a new client I just started with…I am a CIT. I will go to your website.
In general, how many sessions do the 8 phases of the EMDR take? Thank you for the video!
Simone, I am glad you enjoyed the information in the video. To answer your question Phase 1 can take 1-3 sessions depending upon how many traumatic events are in someone's history. Phase 2 is usually accomplished in one session. Phase 3 is done at the onset of each target and usually takes 5 minutes. Phase 4 is the reprocessing, takes up the bulk of a session, and depending upon the rating of the event (SUD), Phase 4 can be completed in 1-3 sessions. Phase 5 is the rewiring of a positive belief and takes 5-10 minutes. Phase 6 is a scan of the body with regard to the new belief and anything left from the original part of the trauma image. Phase 7 is future template...using the new belief, imagining a similar situation, and how'd you respond differently. Phase 8 is done at the beginning of the next session to see what insights or changes surfaced after the previous session and it is also done at the completion of treatment.
Use a mic dear cos the sound bounces back to the wall or something vibrating
thank you for the feedback. I will get a mic and redo....
Thank you for this video! I did EMDR for my trauma and related events and it worked so well- I feel like a new person. My daughter 14yo, who we adopted last year, has PTSD and you just explained why her therapist is doing just EMD to start with! Her trauma nightmares. Thank you again!
You are very welcome! I am glad you found the information helpful and that your experience was so wonderful. :)
Great information!
Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful.
That’s helpful. My lady through WCB is nice but I don’t feel like she really knows what she’s doing. I don’t think she even understands complex trauma. And she started at the top. Then I kinda had a hard time opening up after that big one and it feels like I can’t access my emotions and it seems like a waste. I also got triggered when she didnt understand these traumas changed my life.
If you can talk to this person and ask that she start on small events (teasing, bullying, phobias, etc) and see if she can do right by you, that would be ideal. If you do not feel she has your best interests at heart (doesn't understand trauma, fairly new to EMDR, not trained to start on low level SUD events) then it would be in your best interests to find someone else. I hope you watched the video on questions to ask prospective therapists so you can get a feel for what they know, how often they use EMDR, how skilled they are with EMDR, etc. Dr Morrissey
Excellent video!

is this script from a book or something that can be purchased? I am emdr trained
Yes, It's from a book by Shirley Jean Schmidt "The Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy: An Ego State Therapy for Healing Adults With Childhood Trauma and Attachment Wounds"
I don't know if you'll answer this but here goes..... My therapist suggested EMDR recently and I wanted to research a bit before I committed. I trust this woman wholey, moreso than any family member I can think of. I will ask her what her experience is, but what is an acceptable amount? We live in a fairly rural area, so I can't imagine she's using this type of therapy full time. If she's relatively new, and I choose to go ahead with treatment how do I know if things aren't going as planned?
Don, These are good questions. By the time most trainees have completed Basic Training and their required consultation, they should have between 25-50 hours of practice. If they develop a targeting sequence plan that begins treatment on lower rated events or oldest memories, you will begin to build trust in the process, see improvements and she will increase her confidence in providing EMDR. As you already trust this person, the best way to make sure all is well is to be completely up front with her about what you are experiencing after each set. For example: Wow, that set brought up a lot of images and my mind is overwhelmed with what I am seeing. Or, I feel so much pressure on my chest that it's hard to breathe. Or, I am so mad I could hit something. Then, she will know how to guide you through what you are experiencing by asking you to change the image, or shift the distance between you and the image, or notice the emotion/sensation in your chest, or allow you to use your imagination to hit something and release the anger. I hope you find this information helpful. Best Wishes on Your Healing Journey.
@@themorrisseyinstitutellc4349 Thank you for the reply, and the well wishes. I'll keep your advice in mind.
