This is orchestra style conducting, not field conducting. It would be difficult to find the down beat from a distance to make sure the marching cadence were correct. And white gloves with so much white clothing makes it almost impossible to find the ictus. But I applaud the effort.
i love non newtonian fluids!
Bari sax player is either directly under a mic or just annoying as heck through this whole thing. Awesome conducting, I will be copying much of this
Still Watching in 2022… And this is still by far the best conducting video on UA-cam. I wonder what this guy is up to nowadays?
Hey ! I absolutely loved watching this video. Your cues and expressions are phenomenal. Is there any possible way to get a score to any of these pieces ? Thank you so much !!
Omg this is amazing! I'm trying out for DM in 2 days and I'm looking at people I can learn off of and you have made it great. Please wish me luck.🙏
Bravo Mr. Stiles ! From: Texas
How you doing now?
Bravo.
Oh wow! Your conducting is really amazing. I hope you don't mind me borrowing a couple ideas for my drum major audition in a couple months. Good job!!!
hello
Samuel Crawford? Is that you?
I'll take that as a compliment thanks!
Which band is this?
Crescenta Valley High School Fall 2014
So are their gonna be any real comments about how good this sounds? Keep up the good work.
Third
His 5/4 looks like our one count cutoff lol😂 but it was still a beautiful performance I love every second of it
I am/was (season recently ended) drum major for the 2018 season at my high school; I am a sophomore. You are phenomenal. Your cues and style are so graceful, yet very clear. And I see a bit of Dean Patterson style in that 5/4 😆 I hope whatever you have gone off to do since this video you have succeeded, and I wish you the best of luck in any of your future music endeavors. You are incredible!
You caught me with the Dean Patterson influence! Thanks for your comment and best of luck with the next couple seasons!!
Incredible ! Love your style & expression! Great ques !
Thank you!
@@JWaitselI'm trying to teach my 14 year old conducting so he can audition for Drum Major in the spring. Could you point me to more videos of you conducting? There's soooo much more to teach him... and he could learn so much from watching videos of you. Thanks in advance!
Chad, Sorry I don't really have any other videos of me conducting. This was my senior year of high school and since then I've not done much conducting.
next phantom drum major?
I would have aged out this year if I had marched but thanks for the sentiment
I was the drum major for my 2017 fieldshow as a junior, and I learned a crap ton of nuances from your conducting (like when you spread your feet for musical changes). I'll be the drum major again later this fall, and I'm looking forward to adding so much more of your techniques and cues to my conducting! I want to get the Best Drum Major award at ACCs this year, and I think I can totally do that since I got 3rd last year. (Just finished my 4th AP exam today lol. Back on the band grind)
Thank you so much for the comment and vest of luck in the fall!
Update: I won Best DM
2nd

+Saoireia Thanks!
Young man you have a good sense of tact!
+WienerVL Thank you! Although, I'm not entirely sure I understand your usage of the word "tact"
+Joseph Stiles Sorry Joseph.English is not my language.I´m from Vienna/ Austria. How can i say?"Good feeling for music?"We say in german "Taktgefühl".
+WienerVL Oh I think I understand. Thank you! I think its similar to "tasteful." So, thanks, it means a lot.
keren banget
if you don't mind me asking what time is this in ?
+jovanosborne081999 Hey man. The opener was in 5/4 except for 4 bars of 3. The second movement is in 2 (but I changed some of it to 4 for phrasing purposes) The third movement began in 4/4 and then went into 3/4 and then back and forth between 3 and 4 during the firebird segment.
this guy could do DCI Conducting
+jovanosborne081999 I'm actually auditioning to be a conductor with Phantom Regiment this year. Thank you so much.
