I make theatre and videos about theatre
Staging Stop Making Sense
In 1983 David Byrne, the lead singer of Talking Heads created the concept for the band’s Speaking in Tongues Concert Tour, later seen in the film Stop Making Sense, drawing on influences from the downtown New York theatre scene he was immersed in, including work of the Wooster Group, Mabou Mines, Robert Wilson, and more.

really good video :) crazy that you dont have more views (also very delighted to see that you have a video on jerma)
This is a great video. Glad I was recommended your channel! SMS is the greatest thing ever made.
What a cool video
I love your vids soooo much
Incredible stuff yet again. Glad to see you back. You fill a really important niche on here. Keep it up
I’m so happy to see you posting again, Mack! Another great and informative video.
I loved this; enjoy the abstract in theatre (absurdism of Beckett, Ionesco) but often it's a little too verbal, too harried in the hands of lesser... seeking to appeal to the traditional theatre goers... instead he is giving a space for reflection... this is awesome
Your videos are INCREDIBLE
Thanks for the video! Very well-made and helpful!
Still pissed we never got to see Jeremy and Amelia get married, I will never forgive chat for this
Hey, this as really well done! Good Job!”
For a version of this video with MUCH BETTER AUDIO go here -> ua-cam.com/video/DDfBo2IHn68/v-deo.html Ahead of screening this video essay at The Legacy of Robert Wilson Conference in August 2024, I made this new version now that I have a real microphone and the slightest idea of how to edit audio. Still leaving this old version up though.
Jerma please don't ever die
@wawa6711 said this guys voice sounds like jermas Otto voice, that’s so funny
I don't know if you even check the comments on this video anymore, but I thought you'd like to know this. I was in a class thought by Katie Mitchell and she literally referenced this video at one point. She said she was impressed by the accuracy of this video. So there you go, your Katie Mitchell video is Mitchell approved!
WHATTTTT
@@MackenzieDavenport Bet you weren't expecting that news today hahaha.
@@thatmanrunning I was not! thanks so much letting me know! It must be awesome to take a class with her.
@MackenzieDavenport oh, absolutely. I mean, she's a master of her craft and is such a warm person on top of it. Great experience.
the dogma (95) stage director
Wow, I did my dissertation on the use of time and space in Robert Wilson's shows back in 2004!!
so well put together and very spot on, kudos!
My favorite kind of video about my favorite man. I need more jerma video essays
"this performance art, you guys don't undestand, this is a living painting that you seeing!"
He was sucked into, and stuck inside, his own collection of mannerisms.
His family dinner stream is so underrated also
ahhhh the plosives
Loved the video!
Interesting! Congratulations for the wining award from Japan.
I know it’s a long shot but a Simon Stone video would be incredible
Coming back to this after Generation loss-dude, this is INCREDIBLE to watch!
You sound like otto
ngl i genuinely cried at the ending i dont fucking know why
come to brazil
Well yeah, if you like that kinda thing
hahaaaa
Jerma really is an Andy Kaufman type character
I really liked the baseball stream.
I am so sad there are no plans for a future project similar to the Doll House.
Great video! What’s the outdo song?
the outro song is a beat made by my friend Noah with Jay-Z vocals saying 'HOVA' over it. I thought the pun was funny.
This really was so innovative. The dollhouse reminds me of the Chase Brody stream by Jacksepticeye two months ago in the ISIS project, in which the interactions by chat impact the story and are supposed to bring about deeper meaning for the plot. Extreme long-form and extreme short-form are very popular these days, with Jerma utilising the best of both. There's just so much potential in these new art mediums springing up with a demand for new media. The 19th century was an era of nationalism, the 20th century a battle of ideology, the 21st century a time of aesthetics.
This reminds me of Cry of Mann by Wham City Comedy.
just subbed, loved the video !! keep up the good work 💗💗
3:00 2:20
This is like the video essays in a nutshell videos but its longer.
good simbyosis
Can't believe this video talks about Jerma 985 but doesn't even mention the 984 people he had to kill to get there.
video essay andy
Jerma is so special. No one does it like him, and I think its possible no one ever will either. We are so lucky to be alive to see what he creates.
And since everything is ran by a bunch of old farts who don't understand technology, they're gonna say "well of course this isn't theater, watching a performance on a screen is just watching tv!" Or some other bullshit pedantics
Thank you for sharing this, very helpful introduction into post dramatic theatre too. Regards, newly learning theatre student :)
jerma is the smartest streamer in the world
LOL compact characrter
