maria is the representation of mary that james wanted, a seductive and loving girl, but actually maria is only like this at first sight, "on the outside" shall we say, cause actually maria is the version of mary that james didn't want, the mary that is sick in hospital "unable to love james, and be there with and for him", like he should have for her, as maria says here 0:56, she's telling him what mary could have told him if she didn't die, she's trying to let him understand that it's his fault, and that he's not understanding why he's even here, and why he's sad about mary's death. it's amazing

Maria is a reflection of Mary’s late behavior towards James. Where she was mad at herself for dying and mad that he couldn’t do anything to save her. Notice how she asks him to never leave her then when he goes in for a hug she immediately pushes him away.
