I'm a little disappointed that it's 20 minutes in and you haven't touched on the fact there really is a problem with the school system. So many kids and parents wouldn't resort to extremes, like taking their children out of school, if they didn't feel it was so messed up. Kids aren't safe in schools with other kids whose parents are abusive. Abusive parents literally ruin everything for everyone, and the school doesn't have a handle on what to do when they encounter situations where they should get involved. The abused kids are disruptive, cruel, and in need of help. Not to mention that school shouldn't be most of the day. There is no need for it to be, and I remember how frustrating it was that we only learned for about 20 minutes of the entire hour classes because of how disruptive the rest of the class was, and feeling like I was burnt out because I didn't have any time to decompress after school. It really was unmotivating for me to not have any energy to do things I wanted to do. Unschooling is stupid, and I agree with every point so far. I just think school isn't what it should be, and could be less useless.

In Poland you can homeschool but the child has to pass exams from every subject. At the beginning of the year we, parents are given a list of requirements for each subject. The exam has two parts, written and spoken part. The child is alone with 3 examinators for at least an hour. Also we get requirements for each grade for every topic for every subject. My son is in 4th grade and we have 6 exams - polish, english, math, informatics, history and nature. We learn every day most of these to pass those exams. And I'm also against unschooling. It's a cult.

I don’t get this whole idea that saying you’ll vote for dems means you’re making voting the be all end all like some leftists have argued to me. Definitely not in any way defending her or her point. Babysitting at age 10ish was really common in the 90s (for better or worse). I started babysitting when I was age 9 for kids about 3 years younger than me. I didn't even seek it out, their mother was at the bus stop with us and asked if I'd be interested in watching her kids so they could have a night out. I got Red Cross CPR training for babysitting in fifth grade through Girl Scouts. It seems absolutely insane in hindsight, but at the time, literally no one batted an eye.
