Lady Lazarus - Video Adaption

Hi. So, obviously this isn’t my normal style of video, but when Olivia brought this idea to me I just had to make it. I know it’s quite dark and harsh, but that’s what I intended. I hope you liked it, and if you didn’t then I just hope it made you feel something. A HUGE thank you to Oli who introduced me to both Sylvia Plath and the concept for this video. Thank you for letting me experiment wi...

thank u so much omg i freak with ur videos heavy and am in fact freaking out that u freak with mine
if u haven't read or watched (i haven't seen the movie yet) the goldfinch i cannot recommend it enough, as someone who appreciates art the way u seem to i think you'd really enjoy it
@@sydrealism ooh okay I’ll look at it. Very swag video

We've talked about this. You know I agree fully, but to hear it in full internet rant form was 🤌
"to be musty, and kiss with TONGUE" 🤣🤣🤣 jfc A+
you deserve a thousandfold your views damn
omg thank you :')
The last time I was in Paris and went to the Louvre, it was actually with the aim to stand in front of Houdon's sculpture portrait of Diderot. I love both so much that a number of years ago, I found a lovely sculptor who re-created the sculpture for me. I did go to see the Mona Lisa, too, and that was a nice experience. Seeing "The Last Supper" up close in Milan had a stronger effect on me, though. If you'd like to be impressed and immersed in huge canvases, I can readily recommend almost any landscape by Bierstadt, by the way.
amazing! so cool to hear about all your museum experiences. i adore bierstadt it would be incredible to see one in person
@@sydrealism Oh, come to Brooklyn for some Bierstadt! And visit the museum there (and the Botanical Gardens right beside)!
note from a professional historian: wikipedia is NOT THAT BAD as a source! It's better to not use it, but if you check the sources and they check out (which, from my experience they tend to), it's a really helpful secondary source and is also a great place to mine for sources in general :) I know that's not the point of the video but I will forever take the opportunity to push the anti-anti-Wikipedia agenda
yes!! team wikipedia forever!! source lists at the end of the page have literally saved my academic career lol
LEGENDARY VIDEO PULL. Throughly enjoyable
are you gay? you look gay (this is not meant to be a hate comment, its merely a question i have after noticing the similarities of your appearance and the appearances of (mainly) lesbians)
Love the video, but hot take on the climate change guys: They knew it wouldn't hurt the painting, they just want to bring attention to the topic. They've protested at oil sites and stuff before, but it just gets covered up and ends up ultimately meaning nothing. People have even lit themselves on fire for Climate Change and that gets zero coverage. But this? They went in, did the thing, shouted their message, and then were taken away peacefully. I think that's honestly a pretty successful protest, you know? The point isn't really to get allies, it's to force the issue into public conversation. And now nobody's gong to be able to talk about the Mona Lisa without bringing up the time climate protestors vandalized it out of desperation.
You bring up a really good point! I think what made me upset about it was 1. the stupid Stonehenge people, they ruined it for all of us (my anger was definitely fueled by them lol) and 2. Food felt so childish. Throwing food looks like it was a rushed decision and like they just wanted to fuck over the janitors by being gross. Obviously I'm on their side and if I'm being honest I probably would have been a bit bothered no matter what they threw, but I wish it was something else if they had to throw anything. I feel their plans could have been more thought out and executed in a way that looked less impulsive. And, I fear actions like that could lead to people thinking it would be even more impactful to throw stuff at artworks that aren't as protected, and that's scary. That being said I'm glad it sparked the conversation it did and you make a good point that now those works are associated with climate discussion forever! Thank you for the respectful feedback I really appreciate it :)
@@sydrealism No worries, I'm super glad you actually took the time to hear me out. And while I still disagree on some points, I think they're honestly fair things to disagree on because the whole point is to be shocking and disruptive. So I think stuff like this is always going to be divisive no matter what
“I’m here for the art not for the dweeb shit” has now been added to my everyday phrases thank you
so glad to be of service.
I’m always here for Mona Lisa slander!!! this was a great watch :) ❤️ Really beautiful end too, makes me want to finally pick up the Goldfinch! Sorry for my clunky ass rant in the other comment I’m not a native english speaker haha
Thanks so much! I always appreciate feedback & conversation 😎 So excited for you to read The Goldfinch!
What’s the big deal with defacing THE GLASS IN FRONT OF a painting? the oil paint itself is fine man I don’t get people’s anger towards activists of that kind. I hadn’t heard of stonehenge getting spray-painted, that is very stupid and I hope it’s been recovered to its original state. One thing I want to add, is that the thing about climate change is: if we don’t change, there won’t be anyone around to view art. Will delusional people who don’t believe in it criticize this and turn it against any argument made in environmentalism? Yes. Will they weaponize absolutely anything? Yes. So where does this leave us off, what is too far and should we go by the line drawn by bad faith actors? I don’t think so
I think what got me the most about it was how childish it seemed by throwing food. I'm glad their actions sparked conversation but I feel like it could have been done better, even by throwing something else. Drastic actions can be a good way to bring attention to a topic, especially like climate change, but they require a lot of care and looking at it from all angles. I definitely was heated about the Stonehenge thing and that seeped into my feelings about the other protesters lol. That being said I'm totally on your side & agree that art is worthless if we're not around to experience it!
i never got the hype of mona lisa either, i personally thought this was a portrait with great juicy story behind it but since i grew up i realized that this is some random idolized lady..
please hit us with the full davinci lore!!!
i had the time of my life watching this and im thoroughly obsessed.
LAUREN I LOVE U
loved it! looking forward to the davinci video!
Randomly came across love it
I hear they're planning to move the painting into its own room. So that's probably good.
the spoon mic is a power move.
De Vinci understood that if you use canvas you can make changes like painting over, you can grab another canvas and paint something else. If your tastes change and you don't like what you painted, you never have to see it again. Tattoos on the other hand, are there forever even as your tastes change and your skin changes. What enormous pain people must be experiencing to do something so disfiguring. Next time use canvas, paper, wood, or plaster to express yourself. The Louvres is a big triangle. It's a tuning fork.
were you never taught to keep your mouth shut if you don’t have anything good to say? did Michelangelo not suffer when painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? Do you not think whenever he felt an ache in his back and legs and hip he thought of his greatest work yet? His masterpiece? Is that what gets through to your antiquated mind? I can look back on something that isn’t my taste anymore and still feel fond of it. It’s not necessarily about the aesthetics of the motif but the person I was then. Other people getting tattooed does not give you the right to comment on them and call them „disfigured“. You are a very rude and thoughtless person
I was born with glass bones and paper skin. Every morning I break my legs, and every afternoon I break my arms. At night, I lie awake in agony until my heart attacks put me to sleep. What the fuck is a fork.
@@sydrealism You have my admiration for diving into the world of paintings. I have less severe pains than you, but art helps relieve them. You have been to the Louvre so perhaps you noticed that it is shaped like a tuning fork. There is a square section at one end. Coming off the square is one prong of the tuning fork which holds somewhat less interesting rooms from when Napoleon III lived there. The other prong of the tuning fork runs parallel to he Seine river. That is where the great works of Italian, Dutch, Spanish, French masters. I used to live in Paris, now an hour commuter train ride from Paris. I am glad that you can go to Edenborough and Paris. If you ever need company in Paris I would come in.
i don’t speak english :////
It is unfortunate that paintings look very different in real life instead of photograph or digital. Like a photo of gold can't show how luminous it is in real life.
Yes!! I would 100% watch a full de vinci video!
This is like the fine dining of youtube but like I'm the server that gets invited to sit at the table with an eccentric who only ordered edible flowers
and a glass with just ice in it. i like to watch it melt.
Maybe the Lourve should plan a Mona Lisa theme ride.
