10th Civic Si Cylinder Head Removal (L15B7)
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
In this video I pull the cylinder head on my 2018 Honda Civic Si L15B7 motor. After putting about 15K miles with full bolt-ons, 27Won W2 turbo, flex fuel kit and tune I began to notice a misfire above 2800 RPM. I suspected the head gasket was blown but discovered that the head bolts had stretched, lifting and cracking the cylinder head. I cover most of the disassembly process and provide insigh...

Im in the middle of doing this on my exl. Does that coolant tube just pop out of the thermostat housing? Mine is tight and i dont want to break anything pulling on it.
@@clotho2k is yours rubber? and did it have a clamp on it? if so i think it should come off. i recall having to pry some of them from the bottom, but i was gently and did it from side to side.
Throw it Away ! that has PROVEN to be THE Very Worst engine Honda has ever sold.
still have it. runs great and makes power. i’ve done the clutch since this video along with regular maintenance and just recently did a cross country trip. i’m over 100k, i get amazing mpg, its comfortable, fun, has all the features i want and looks really good. its easy to work on when ive had to and let’s face it every car eventually needs work. i think im going to hang on to her.
this song sounds like a booty shaker for sure
Good job man, that's nice car! Should last almost a lifetime
thank you. i take good care of it and i hope to make it last as long as possible. as of today she runs strong and has given me no issues!
I feel like im watching your video for 4days.
I feel like im watching your video for 4days.
sorry dude. it was a long and complex job.
I think I'd have dropped the whole drivetrain out so I could work on it from all sides. Probably hard to do on gravel though.
that would be the way to go if you have the right tools for sure. i was a little limited
@@dawgitsryan I've pulled an engine once on a gravel driveway. I had to buy plywood sheets because once the weight went up, the engine hoist just sank in the gravel. It was miserable. Like you I made it work...
Everything looks so doable except the timing chain part that part looks so scary like everything has to be positioned or lined up right. Lol. But overall thanks your video is the only video that has the part number 12513-59b which is the oil cam cover that I see no one disclosing.
thanks! i tried to be as thorough as possible. if you’re doing this yourself take your time and keep track of where things are. the timing chain was not that bad if you use the method i show in the video. really just need to make sure you get that tensioner pressing against the chain guide with as much force as possible.
The piece at 53:49 is that the oil gears?
@@10thgensiracingthat’s the timing chain sprocket that goes around the crank shaft just behind the crank pulley.
@@dawgitsryan Dang I need to see the oil pump. I thought the oil pump was on that side. Lol
Can you do my headgasket ? Is starting to go bad
i would not mind doing it but right now isn’t a good time. got spot going on with work. i wish i could help!
@@dawgitsryan damn you know anyone that can help me I’m in New Jersey
@@dominicanpapi81 my uncle lives in queens NY. he turns wrenches, i’ll try to reach out but he’s kinda absent lately. no promises. but if i can get a hold of him i’ll let you know.
@@dawgitsryan ok thank u
Def subbing. I just had my motor replaced at Honda and injectors lol. Head lift obviously… and I mean to me, I barely beat on my car. I think it was this one time I raced a 335 bmw and I really just pushed the motor to its breaking point lol. 150 mph lol shit got real. Yes I won. Lol for anyone wondering
Thanks! Clutch replacement video coming up REAL soon. I keep hearing the tranny can be pulled without removing the subframe, I’m a bit skeptical but I’m gonna try it. 🤞🏽
@@dawgitsryanthe clutch is easy on this car, Id recommend just pulling the subframe, the biggest pain is the hundreds of clips and getting the input shaft into the pilot bearing
@@JamesAnderson-fw5ew thanks for the heads up. You’re probably right, it might be more of a hassle to take shortcuts. I’ll probably be better off taking your advice!
Did you have to replace head gasket?
I was hoping this Honda 1.5T to be more reliable, but I it is not. Seems that head gasket failure is very common on these
Yes it is lol all I had was cobra intake and reflash and I lifted my head hard. Just had the motor replaced at Honda cause of it
@@NEO_RKXdid you pay outta pocket? Cuz I'm sure they'd notice the ecu has been flashed even if you put stock intake back on.

The fucked up gloves in some shot🤣🤣 badge of honor
Never buy a modified car.
Disagree. For the right price any car is worth it. Especially if you have the tools and find satisfaction in working on them. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but I love this car and I don’t regret buying it.
@@dawgitsryan Agree. For people who can work in cars, finding a cheap broken one to fix can be a joy.
How long did it take you ?
Tear down took about 8 hrs, it was a little longer getting it all back together.
@@dawgitsryan damn appreciate it, I have 2 days off and I plan on doing this along with w2 bb turbo and skunk 2 intake manifold.. I work at Honda but I’m only a express tech lol hope I can do all this
@@ashton7124 that’s awesome man. I’d say just be prepared for that crank pulley, it took up so much time. Having the right tools for that will save you a lot of frustration. Setting the timing has been an issue for some folks too but if you follow the method I used in the video it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.
Really hoping to see more Si content from this channel this video is amazing and very informative! I recently picked up a well maintained 10th gen Si it’s a 2017 that was owned previously by someone who was older and a snowbird in Arizona and the car fax came out great however I still want to look into stuff like this on my car just to be sure and this helped me a lot!
Thank you! I’m glad you found this video helpful! I will have more videos up very soon!
Do you think this type of issue is common for this generation? Was looking at a few of these to purchase but this video is giving me pause lol
Honestly man I’m at 80k now with this car and she is doing great. I daily this thing and I have no worries looking forward. Keep in mind also my car was heavily modded even before I got it so it had probably been pushed to its limits. I’ll upload a video soon of how things have been since this job.
If you modify the car then yes , due to increased cylinder pressure over time the head will lift causing the head gasket to fail and missfires will eventually start to happen. This goes for the 2.0 and si.
@@JasonHamiltonJr The 2.0 is a completely different animal. One's derived from the might K series and the other from a Honda Fit engine.
@@quademasters249 yes however these new 2.0l k series aren’t as stout as the old k series. Once I started modifying and cranking up the tune, I’ve had a multitude of problems that shouldn’t be from an all motor setup from having to replace head gasket (switched to type r head studs.. no issue), injectors, doesn’t take ethanol very well, and now having to replace crankshaft due to my reluctor wheel cracking literally in half. It also reads misfires when none are present and can’t rely on reading k.count cause system reads are inaccurate so you have to rely on k.control.
@@quademasters249 this goes for the C2 though, not the turboed C1 or C4
Hi, may I ask why you used CRV head instead of Si head? What are the advantage? Better head flow?
I used a CR-V head because it was the only compatible cylinder head I could find. From what I understand the CR-V and SI head are pretty much the same. The valve train, exhaust port are identical.
@@dawgitsryan yeah you’re right, I just checked both their part numbers and they are the same.
How would you rate the w2 turbo compared to stock, does it sound louder than stock turbo ?
I love the W2. So much more power and it spools pretty loud, especially with upgraded TIP and intake.
I installed mine arp headstuds without removing head about 15k miles ago. Run a big turbo e30 have yet to run into a problem(other than my injectors are starting to get tired @ 60k miles) this will be a great video for a lot of people!
Thanks a lot! Yea unfortunately my head was warped when the stock head bolts stretched. I even had cracks between the spark plug holes and the valve seats, hence replacing the whole head. Ever since the swap though I have had no problems whatsoever!
gotta clean your injectors more often running E30. you will def go through injectors faster so try and clean them more often
@@wanderbread4217 eh I have new ones sitting in my backseats heard that cleaning em doesn’t do much. They’re only like 300 bucks and I guess Honda actually recommends replacing them every 60-100k miles
@@Candybuiltsi cleaning them def helps. keep in mind youre only running E30 not E85 which would wear them down twice as fast than e30
@@wanderbread4217changed em. 0 problems and fuel trims are 10000x better. Getting close to 100k miles on setup would be nice to say my big turbo si made it 50k miles on big turbo
