We’re glad you’re here, and we're excited to share the story of America's founding with you! So why should you care about this story?
Because it is OUR story and all of us are now responsible for writing the rest of it. If you don’t know what has happened already, it’s hard to know where to take it from here. It’s not all about facts and dates- we want to connect you with the human side of America’s founding. Whether it’s through humor, telling stories you may not have heard, or presenting history in a unique way, our goal is to make you curious enough to learn more.
And the best part? You can come see us in person and “step into history” to discover the power and drama of America’s journey for independence, liberty, and self-government! We are a nationally-pioneering classroom and American history and civics education center that has engaged and inspired over a half million students from Alabama and Southeastern states since 1999.

LIVE FROM BOSTON, IT'S A TEA PARTY TONIGHT!
Boston Harbor has "become a teapot tonight," and Wilhelmina Whittaker is live on the scene to bring us eye-witness accounts of the action!
Now, you may be wondering, "Did the Boston Tea Party really happen like this??"
Well...no, not exactly!
In fact, it was actually a very orderly affair! (With no reporters on the scene)
But we are bringing you this video today because it's the 250th anniversary of this infamous act, and we hope to spark your interest in the event, the people, and the fact that on this day, we Americans took a bold stand against "taxation without representation!"
So what really happened at the Boston Tea Party?
On December 16, 1773, 7,000 colonists gathered in Boston's Old South Meetinghouse to protest the Tea Act. Some had used soot and red clay to paint their faces to disguise themselves as members of the Mohawk tribe. In the 1770's, the Mohawks were a symbol of freedom and liberty in the colonies, and the Sons of Liberty felt this "disguise" would represent their cause. As the meeting ended, hundreds marched down to Griffin's Wharf, where the British ships carrying the tea were docked. The mob's leaders led 60 colonists into groups to board the ships and destroy the tea. The men dumped 342 chests (45 tons) of tea into the Boston Harbor. The tea destroyed that night would be worth over $1 million dollars in today's currency!
When King George III found out about these events he became determined to make the colonists pay for what they had done, leading to the passage of the Intolerable Acts in 1774 and further oppression and economic hardship for his subjects.

Ppl don realize we were fighting fo 2 years before the declaration of independence was signed and sent over to england. The founding fathers didnt want all out war
Yes, Ben Franklin did request the French for their help; but, ol' Ben was a well known ladies' man and entertained many of them, too. He lived for several years on America's dime while he continued his philandering ways. He did volunteer for that job, you know. We have more than repaid the French, TWICE in twenty years we fought and many young American men died just to win France back and gave France back to the French. The Marines have a joke, "If a Frenchman offers to sell you his gun, buy it. You know its never been fired and only dropped once". 😊
Benjamin Franklin spent YEARS in France trying to get them to ally with us.
Quite a stay too, look up what they found in his basement. 😂
Excellente!
Ben Franklin should be in this
Was gonna say that
Wasn't Ben Franklin the emissary though?
He was :) We go into the history behind the real event in the description.
It's a shame most US citizens that are very proud of their country. Do not know that with the assistance from France we were able to gain our independence from King George.
Speaking as a southern American... The only real common knowledge down here is snakes gave women their periods, and you have to watch out for witches.
Shouldn't that be Franklin?
Ehh Americans still wanted to take as much as they could of gotten. Couldn’t thrive in a place such as Quebec like the hardy French 🤟🏻🤘🏻
Hold on George, my phones ringing!😂
Literally just what happened
😂👌
I love history. it's my favorite subject New subscriber!
Young Shane Gillis right there
It wasn’t so much that they wanted to help us. It was that they wanted to mess with Britain
Of course do, you are both useless solo.
