Okie Homestead Show... Brrrrr!
We had a booth at the Okie Homestead Conference in March, 2024 and had a wonderful time visiting with the attendees. Some of them had previously purchased some of the inexpensive other coop doors, and we recorded some of their thoughts.

Переглядів 1217 місяців тому
We all struggle to keep water liquid in winter time for the hens. Mixing in some molasses will lower the freezing point a good bit, and we show various mix ratios and what different it makes as temperatures drop 25 degrees below freezing. But make sure your hens will drink the mixture, and offer them some plain water as well to 'cleanse their palette!

Adding some light for a couple of hours in the morning before dawn inside the coop can trick the hens to lay for weeks more. See what our coop light kit can do for your flock. How do we get one to Australia
I love it
Hi, thanks for the awesome video. We are loyal owners of your product. We have had our chicken door for at least 8 years. Today when I went to feed chickens, the door was opening and closing continuously. We have tried several things, but it is still doing that. We changed the battery. Hoping you might have some trouble shooting tips. We have unplugged it for now. Thanks Lisa Bonds
Love the door! It’s been great!
So I've had 1 of your doors for 2 years and a racoon managed to bend the door and get in. It is possible that it wasn't closing all the way allowing it to get a better grip. Not looking for any compensation just letting you guys know. Left a voicemail with my number if you would like the pictures.
Best on the market!

Hey Tony I've had mine for 5 years any chance I could get replacement parts?
Hi Mark. We can repair things. But 5 years... is that a Gen 1? You might really look at that newer Gen 2.5, it has countless improvements that they're hard to even compare. But we can replace the battery or motor or even upgrade to the newer circuit. Call us at 512 995-0058.
Hey guys. Was looking at doors for the coop I’m building for the wife. Came upon your door while watching a Carolina Coop video and immediately knew this was a door that was built the way I would be happy with. Can’t say enough how much I’m looking forward to having your door installed on our coop. Ordered this evening. But have a question about a feeder that was mentioned on the Carolina Coop video. I’ve heard great things about the feeder that the chickens step on to open for food. Sounded as if you guys were looking into making one. The wife nor I could find it on your website this evening. Wondering if this was something that you are still considering to make or decided not to continue with. Thanks guys. Looks to be a great product and hope it continues to bless you guys.
Just ordered one!!! Can’t wait
I just saw your comment... Thank you! I trust it's serving you well. Have a great season.
Best there is! ! ! 8 years no worries
From Australia here - had mine I reckon about 8 plus years. Just gone through first battery - not surprising - solar panel still working and the charge controller you have is obviously good as the battery lasted so long. The only issue I had was not maintaining the bottom bushing and hence ceased up - my fault. The motor was so strong it flexed the very thick door off the bushing. Bloody great product guys!
Good stuff, y'all! 🙂
Bees next, please!!
For those of us that truly are 'beekeeping addicts', I completely understand! Preparing to go to NAMBE in two weeks, so you'll be seeing some video from there. 3000 beekeepers in one building, it will be amazing.
Loving your product! Can you tell me if the door will open if i accidentally flash it with a flashlight at night?
Hi! We've planned for that. It takes 5-10 minutes of a light transition to open the door. So if a flashlight goes by, or a car drives by, you won't have any issue with the door opening. I know many other doors will open after just a few seconds of light, but we consider that a danger to the hens. We also invented the "Second Chance Chickens". When the door closes at night, 90 seconds later it opens up for only 10 seconds to give any girls trapped outside a chance to hustle into the coop. Great question, thank you.
Awesome door , quality and it's great to support god fearing owners instead of woke corporations. God bless!!
You never show the full connection with the solar panel.
We used to live in Alaska but now are retired in Georgia. Just got your Pullet-Shut chicken door with solar panel and am looking forward to installing it and sleeping in soon.
Your door is awesome!
Hey you two! My first chicken door was from Amazon, and guess what, it didn't work! I found your door from the tube interview on carolina coops! Your door is just awesome! I just purchased another door for my Mom so she doesn't have to go out in the cold and open her door in the winter time. She is very excited and I'm excited for her! We are from Black Hills of South Dakota. We will be watching!
I think you are getting me more interested in bee keeping. Love that you guys end your video with a Godly blessing! Just bought a solar chicken door, can't wait to install it next week.
Thank you. Beekeeping is the most fascinating earthly thing I have ever known. Remember my words (aka warning), beekeeping is an addiction, not a hobby or business. I have 150 hives now, and asking my friends to help me NOT have 300 next year. It's borderline work now, I'm happy with an addiction, I don't need another job! They just laugh at me... such 'good' friends.
I just figured the white vent in my pro power unit was because that was all you could source at the time after seeing others vacs that it was not white.
Little secrets everywhere. And did you notice that you have a spare gasket for sealing the vac head? You see the white gasket underneath today. Look up 1" from it, you'll see your spare gasket. Having backup parts is a wonderful thing!
Love your doors and feeder! Question, can you use a Lipo battery vs lead acid battery?
Yes and no. A 12v LiPo battery will work, but if you live in freezing weather, at some point that battery will fail to charge or provide power. Lead acid batteries usually work all the way down to North Pole temperatures. Thank you for the thoughtful question.
Hello guys! I found you from recommendations on Backyard Chickens. New chicken momma in Minnesota here. So happy to have found your automatic door, and you all. You seem like hardworking and honest people. I have purchased my 1st automatic door from you all. I'm not much of a religious person, but I respect that you all are strong in your faith and families. Bravo for making an amazing product. I wish you much continued success and will follow you on UA-cam. Take care!
Welcome to the internet gentlemen. Among many other random creations, I've built my own solar-powered chicken doors and I'm working* on a bucket bee vac using a power tool battery. Not for production or resale, I'm just a maker and a squirrel chaser. (I totally had the same idea for the Dollar Tree things before ever seeing the EBV, must be a Texas thing.) If I come up with anything that might benefit your vac, I'll share it with you. Two questions: Will you be at the TBA convention and are you Aggies? Whoop! 👍 *As in, the parts have been on the workbench forever, but they haven't magically assembled themselves into a working thing yet.
I found you through Hive Live, I enjoyed your intro. Looking forward to hearing more from you. See you at the Hive Live show.
Thank you MaryBeth! There will be lots of stuff we'll be sharing going forward. But it always helps to know a bit about the people you're hearing from. Make sure we're not too crazy in the wrong way.
