Such an incredible song. It's one of those that I hesitate to listen to because it triggers memories and brings me to places I'd rather not be. But sometimes I have to listen, relive those losses and move on.

When I was really young, probably 4 or 5, im not sure because I don't remember much from my childhood..we had a case of CDs in our truck that we'd listen to all the time. There was a CD with mixed songs on it and i remembered the intro to this song. For years and years and it would always pop up in my head at random times but I could never remember for the life of me what it was called but I never really thought to try and look it up. But here I am, 10pm on a Tuesday night.. probably 11 years later & I'm 16 now overwhelmed by the heaviest waves of nostalgia I've ever felt. I almost feel like crying. Sorry for rambling I just thought I would share :)

I was driving to work this morning and I listened to this song. I am 39 years old, 220 lbs, I lift weights, I work in construction and I can be pretty aggressive. But I can't remember the last time I cried as hard as I did this morning while I was listening to this song. And I mean not in about 30 years. I was audibly wailing in my truck. See, I almost lost my wife over the past two months after she gave birth to our little one. I slept many nights with her in the ICU, wondering if she was going to pull through. Remembering our own sunsets together - the most beautiful moments of my life. I love her so much. Twelve hours after she had an emergency C-section, she was wheeled to the ICU, from the part of the hospital where people enter the world, to the part where many leave it. I started crying then, but she told me to stop, and I knew that I had to be strong like a rock for her. So I got on my knees every night, praying to the Lord to not take her, or at least to give me peace. I didn't really cry through January or February. I had to bring her to the the ER seven times. She went to the ICU twice. She was admitted to the regular hospital four times. This song reminded me of my own helplessness in watching someone that I love get confronted by death. Someone full of beauty and life. So this song made two months' worth of stored up tears come out. And now I can empathize with our little baby daughter's crying like never before. I really needed this.

Pov: you're in college it's 2012 freshman year. Your English professor puts on this song. His first wife had passed away a while ago. But from time to time it eats at him and one time in class before he had a breakdown. But he's calm now, listening to this song. And as you hear the chorus you can see the look in his eyes as he stares in the distance and he goes back in time to a place where she wasn't gone and they were together.

I forgot just how sad this song is, I actually felt bad for the lighthouse, even though buildings can't feel, they can have intense emotions imprinted upon them. If you don't believe me, mythbusters proved our emotions affect our environment.

  • @rmmattos819

I live in the very last Northern coastal town in California that people never heard of. There’s a lighthouse here called Point St. George Reef Lighthouse...it’s about 6-8 miles offshore, right smack dab on a reef in the middle of the ocean. This song reminds me of this lighthouse. There’s many tragedies that fit perfectly into the lyrics of this song...it gives me the chills. There was a shipwreck long ago of the Brother Jonathon, in which many lives were lost. The lighthouse has been decommissioned for some time now but the Frenzel Lens light has been replaced and still shines to show ships their way. Although it is decommissioned it has since become a historical landmark that you can take a helicopter ride over to actually tour it.

Someone is probably going to yell at me for this. I get the song has a sad meaning, but I honestly don't like the song. Maybe it's to slow for me, be I just don't like it. And before anyone says 'why are you listening to it then?', I'm listening to it for a school project

He watches her ship fight, but in vain against the wild and terrible wave. Then he climbed my tower and off the edge of me he ran. This song is portraying the feeling of helplessness over and over again. Showing us that when you love someone sometimes your helpless. Sometimes you have to watch them struggle
