Great bag! What type of fabric did you use for your sublimation?
@@ufoquilter86 Thank you. it's 3 pass 100% polyester blackout curtain lining
Where can blackout be found?
Depends where you live, many fabric stores have it. In New Zealand I use the white version of this www.spotlightstores.com/nz/curtains/curtain-fabrics/curtain-linings/langdon-3-pass-curtain-lining/BP80388677
Was there a link for the blackout fabric?
There are lots of sources for it depending on were you live. I get mine at spotlight in New Zealand.
How has the prints held up? Did they fade?
@@channettecoetzee8827 no they haven't faded at all. But my attempt on any other vinyl than clear has faded badly.
Rivet setter, boxed corners and zipper setting tool would be so helpful, especially if they will be available in NZ.
@@Nurse7042 😊zipper over lay & rivet setter are being made ATM and more are in design state 😊
The logo stamp sounds awesome. Are there any suppliers in the us that do anything like that?
Binny is the best ❤
Templates are the best. Especially the ones from Brymaxx Precision.great quality and pricing. Thanks Binny
Great interview! I really enjoyed the discussions about recycling and being aware of our waste!
I started sewing bags with my photos on them in 2018 and as I needed to be able to see the image to fussy cut my pieces out, I bought a sheet of probably 3mil acrylic and a scoring knife and now have a collection of the different patterns I designed (all straight edges for me) and I love them--don't know how much time I've saved using my templates! I have since purchased different templates as well and loved hearing your story and although I'm in Hawai'i and may source them closer, I appreciate how you're helping small businesses in this way! Aloha!
I love Brymaxx's templates. I have many from different designers and love that they are so careful with collecting proof of purchase. People need to understand these templates are an additional tool to help with the pattern, so we must own the pattern first. I only started sewing 2 years ago, straight into bags. I'm so fortunate to have arrived at a time when templates are a realistic option. For me using templates just makes sense, I get to use my rotary cutter accurately and the templates can be used over and over. Next decision is not if I get another template, rather it's what one will I get? Thanks for another great interview!
If you know of other Template cutters that are vigilant about protecting designer copyright and supply a great product please add there name in a comment or send me their link😀
Newbie here. This is such a fun project. Can you please tell me what you mean by edge coating? Thanks.
@@sueb4919 thanks, you can buy paint that seals the edge of the vinyl
I can't wait to give this pattern a try.
Great insight ladies. FYI I love rose gold and rainbow.
Love your bag chats. Great to have info relevant to our Aotearoa context. Lovely ladies.
Collette is a fun sew. I haven't graded this pattern as I feel pattern grading is so subjective but she's not hard there are just some new techniques. I suggest watching the video to decide for yourself if you can make a gorgeous Collette.
Hi! I have been looking for a new handbag for a while and I think I finally found one. 🤩 I was just wondering, is the pattern in inches?
Thank you. I include both metric and imperial 😊
I love doing applique, and these people are two of my favorites for inspiration!
And I agree with the inspiration from papercrafting! I was a papercrafter before I started bagmaking, so applique on my bagmaking felt like a natural extension of that.
This was wonderful. Thank you for telling us about your journey
@@alisonhingston7820 thank you.
KIM-what settings do you use on the Cricut for Vinyl?
I totally like to outsource my appliqué to me Cricut
I appreciate free patterns HOWEVER there a lot of writers that have evolved and teaching styles are no longer the same as that free pattern. I feel free patterns are just glimpse of the writer but shouldn't the only deciding factor to continue with that writer. Guilty as charged. My favorite free pattern is the Mabel Vintage Handbag by Swoon.
@@Jaded6911 good point. I guess maybe we need to keep that in mind as designers to update our free patterns.
Thanks Jill, another great chat. My favourite free pattern is the Miss Maggie bag by Emmaline Bags, a great starting point that can be modified in so many ways
A very interesting conversation. I am always cautious when checking out and downloading free patterns, I found a lot of companies would then bombard my inbox with more patterns than I would like. Or the patterns were missing important pieces and information. Thank you Jill and Kerrylee. 💐
Ooh Jill I so look forward to these chats!!! Well done friend!!!
@@MelissaH05 thank you.
Thank you ladies, this was a great motivation for a burnt out bag maker, I am keen to get sewing again.
@@lorrainestevenson-ib1ho I hope you find your sewjo soon🤍👜🤍
Ahh I love these podcasts/interviews and hope they continue!
Thank you - what marker do you use that you can just wipe off?
I use a silver leather marker, But you still need to test it as still stains some vinyls
@@kiteco.creates thank you . I’ve just about finished this one just need to do the strap . So clever the zip 😃
@@cherubskissx thankyou, I need to make some more for my end of year market's
Jill, Bag Chat is a wonderful idea! I have really enjoyed it. It's very informative and I love putting a face and personality behind names and designers. Thank you.
So many beautiful and inspirational appliqued bags Thank you for these podcasts. I would love some additional tips on how to sew appliques when your machine is being difficult though. I've got no problems with ordinary vinyl bags when it comes to either transportation or eating of the fabric. But when I tried applique it wouldn't move. Even when I tried a bigger, reversed design and "started in the best spot" (straight, simple line with lots of fabric to grab) with different foot pressure and feets (standard, teflon acu-feed/transportation, zipper) it just stomps in the same place unfortunately. Saw thread lubricant was mentioned, but I've never heard of this, was is it? And what should I look for? I'm in the northern hemisphere so google either gave me foreign pages or hits I'm unsure is suitable since the purpose was so different
@@speedbully_84 sorry your experience hasn't gone smoothly this is a link I found for the oil. I hope it helps www.barnyarns.co.uk/en/haberdashery-and-notions/tools/sewing-accessories/sewers-aid-sewing-lubricant.html

Thank you Emma for all your knowledge and sharing. Wonderful chat.
A very enjoyable interview. And yes, Emma I totally understand that working from home it is hard to not keep on working and have time out.
Thanks so much for having me on Jill, it was fun to chat with you. It’s easy to forget my past life 😂
What an inspiring journey 🤍
great Job and say to follow!
Fabulous little purse! Those old machines were great work horses. I learnt sewing on an old Singer treadle, and when Mum bought an electric machine in the late 1950’s we thought we were in heaven. 😊 Thanks for your videos, much appreciated. 💐
Hello Thanks for the video. I love vintage machines but there are not very many videos of bag makers using them. Would be nice to see what it can handle, like heavier materials and how heavy can you go on thread? Can it handle Tex 70 maybe. How heavy can you go on needle size and do you need a walking foot attachment and non stick Teflon feet for vinyl etc. All those bag making questions 😀😍thanks
Thankyou. Yes I hope to do a lot more video as I get familiar with her. I need to get the motor and foot checked as it's labouring a little so I don't want to push it until I do. I intend recording my trails and tests. I've sewn 6 layers of soft vinyl as a test and she sailed through it.
@@kiteco.createsThanks. ❤I’ll keep an eye out for those videos. It will be fun to see you put her through the paces on some bags.
@Tara what brand and model sewing machine do you use.
i would love to see how you layer them
Where do you buy your cute vinyl patterned fabric. I am in the USA
