    This is plain insulting, claiming we are burdens? Look in the mirror you hypocrites, you’re a burden to us, look at all you have done to us. Eugenics Movement not only morally wrong but continued even after being proven false. Your Willowbrook Scandal, the Judge Rottenberg Centre still shocking kids, the Nazi Holocaust, conversion therapy (ABA), the feminine boy project, your neuroleptic abuse towards us, your persistent hypocrisy not having the ability to keep your moral values, your obsession with conformity, your hatred towards harmless differences, your claim women are social parasites, your genocide towards the Tasmanian race, claiming homosexuality is a disorder. You hypocrites are great burdens to us then you place all the blame on us. You say 98% don’t test positive for Down Syndrome, are you blind? You’re wasting 98% of the money, no need to wonder why the world is in such great poverty. You are not just a burden to us, you are a burden to the entire world with your selfish desires. Even worse, it’s your frigging idea of destroying biodiversity that introduces diseases. The entire human is biological, meaning every disabled person is part of biodiversity, so by destroying us, you are intentionally destroying the world causing ecological disasters, extinction of wildlife, increase human suffering, increasing poverty, increasing depression through causing redundancy by doing this to us resulting in suicide, bombarding disabled people with the message they don’t have the right to live resulting in suicide, the list goes on and on of how much abuse and harm your non-existent human is causing. You’re bigger burdens to the world than all disabled people put together, you’re not just our burden, you’re your own burden with the consequences of what you’re doing to us.

    I would urge the Prof (from the audience) speaking at around 47:00 to study the data before coming to his current conclusions. An example mentioned by the lecturer was TK who was brain dead. And this is not mere brain stem death - TK's brain had undergone liquefactive necrosis and he had NO BRAIN. Despite having no brain, TK survived for 20 years. He used nutrients from tube feedings, fought infection, maintained body temperature and underwent proportionate physical growth. In other words, TK's body continued to work as an integrated, unified whole. Is this the mark of a dead "organism?"

    Prof Steinbock, what's important to consider is this implied premise that persons have the "liberty" to "harm" themselves i.e. to commit suicide or murder themselves. We must first consider the metaethical aspects of what liberty and harm entail, then come to your conclusion (37:59) that the alleged "religious/moral objections" of some should not limit the liberty of others. Also, what qualifies as "religious" objections? Does a worldview that requires comprehensive metaphysical doctrine qualify as one eg secularism or humanism? Most religions object to murder, so should we limit the liberty of others to murder? Please do not beg the question, Prof, with all due respect.

    Something pro-life people always seem to assume is that everyone is grateful to be born. I assure you that although most people are glad to have been born there are lots of people who wish they'd never been created. I have a very privileged life but with the depression and anxiety that runs in my family I truly wish I had never been forced to exist. Now that I'm here I do my best to make this a better world but I'm absolutely an anti-natalist. I think abstinence is a great option but not everyone chooses that so I think abortion is the more moral choice over having children. Embryos and young fetuses aren't sentient (until week 17) so they have no self-interest. I think abortion should be done before 17 weeks but in that time period I think it's the best choice. As far as religion, I'm a Cathar. We believe the greatest sin is procreation. I guarantee ensoulment doesn't happen at conception because identical twins form sometime in the 1st 2 weeks and twins don't share a soul.

      @InefficientCustard Рік тому

      Well that's a view. Why doesn't this just imply we should all commit suicide (I apologise if this question sounds naive but I don't know much about anti-natalism.)

    The things that's common between the king and prince is royalty, the thing that's common between fetus and adult is humanity. These are just entities that exist at different stages of development.

      Zygotes, embryos and young fetuses aren't sentient so they literally don't care if they live or die. There's a huge difference between human life that has thoughts and feelings and human life that doesn't. I care about sentient life so I don't eat meat. If you're not a vegetarian, how do you feel about animals suffering for your taste preference? If you eat meat you're not pro-life.

      @@KatrinaDancer So let me get this straight..in your eyes, Killing animals that are considered sentient, absolutely wrong and heinous. But killing a human being that has the genetic capacity for not just sentience but also rationality, completely ok?

    If contraception fails and she falls pregnant and I as the man am not ready to be a dad and suggest an abortion. If she decides to keep the baby and i walk out then don't ask me for child support money.

      I understand your position and people should be discussing these things before ever doing things that could lead to pregnancy! It's shocking how many people don't even know what the other person's wishes would likely be in the event of an unplanned pregnancy!

    Isn’t there potential sentience and the genetic correlates of sentience in the DNA code? Wouldn’t the unique nature of this potential sentience relate to an interest in manifesting and developing it not just for the persons interest but also for society’s interests in the unique contribution of that individual? This wouldn’t relate to a biological identity argument rather both embodied and biological.

    • @KatrinaDancer
      @KatrinaDancer Рік тому

      That's why we'll never agree. We have different underlying philosophies. I value sentient life that exists in the present and some people value potentials.
