Thunderbird "FIELD CAR" Project Update: FLOORS!
IN THIS VIDEO: I finally get back to work on my field find thunderbird project. I clean up and sound deaden the floors, with some awesome HeatShield Products DB Skin!
Thanks for watching! Drop a comment if I can answer any questions, or if you have any suggestions about what I can do better!
The patient today is my 1966 Ford Thunderbird, which is slowly getting closer to the pavement.
A friend of mine 'rescued' the car a couple years ago, and unfortunately found the project to be more than he had time to resolve.
I was blessed to take it off his hands, and have finally begun the process of breathing new life into this spaceship of a car.
Being a 'space race' era car, and a luxo-barge at that, the car has a lot going on, and is quite the boat.

Better you did buy a msd magnetic pickup distributor they're not that expensive and you could lock it out easily rather than welding a distributor. And you need a phasable rotor cap to do this correctly.
@@eagle5720 the wholenpoijt was the budget. I agree that would work fine. But we did phase this assembly. And for less than $100 you can't beat it. His car runs great.
Make it faster and make the paint job presentable no trailer queen we drive’em Chevy gang
Just stumbled across your page today. I recently picked up a '65 and will be watching all your T-Bird videos. The two videos I have watched so far are great! Very good production value and you do a good job in front of the camera. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers.
I appreciate it! I’m trying! Getting better with each video! Glad there’s another T bird being kept on the road!
super stoked to see this getting together! glad the DB skins working!
@@pistonpeeps seems like it works great
you're telling i need to get another one? the missus won't be happy.
@@whyshouldipickaname if it you're not gonna lose the roof over your head, and the kids are taken care of, then you need another project!
what set up did you run for the rear????
@@edwincampos8473 I’m actually still on drums in the rear. There is a set up off of the third GEN Camaro that supposedly will fit, but it is not Bray’s. And there was also a set up off of. Blazer that should fit, but again it is not Brembo’s There’s a couple companies that make backing plates to put Brembo’s on GM 10 bolt rear ends. It’s my intention to eventually use something like that
@@LugNutLangI just used one for the rear pretty simple , get the bracket and get ctsv rotors
Having hard time finding the exact , spindle you used on the box Chevy , and did you bolt the caliper straight to the spindle
Take the part number in the description and go to summit. I just checked it's still valid. Caliper bolted right on. I think I used a couple of shims I got from MasterCarr. 1mm I think.
You're ten years too late. Back then you could get an 84 caprice for less than a grand. Now that's a 15-20 thousand dollar car. Even the four doors and wagons are selling for buku bucks.
@@SamuelSullivan-uu3ro I got mine for I think 1k 9 years ago. In this part of the country I’m probably lucky if it’s worth 8K with the LS swap. But in the south and other places east you’re right. It’s a 15k car
Nice 👍
There’s no way you can beat me I have twice as many cylinders as you!
Great video. Thanks!
Yes part of pomona is skechy but what an awesome place to start and great stops
Awesome starting location. And super cool that the first stop this year was the last stop last year.
Good video !! Keep it up 💪🏾
Great video. Thank you for all that information. Look forward to seeing you on the Power Tour!!
Love the thumbnail
super solid video! looking forward to the other videos you make out of power tour west this year!
Greetings from Germany! After this video I will try to repair the doors of my 65 Special Landau as well. Thank you
hyperspark is crap i am on my 4th one in 14 months
@@frostycools1315 weird. I’ve seen bad luck with the dual syncs. But I thought the hypersparks were decent. Are you using the one with a CD box or the ‘ready to run’ distributor?
@@LugNutLang CD box , what happens is the pick up under the rotor comes lose the only thing holding it in is the plastic wire plug as it enters the underside of the distributor , when it come lose it grinds against cup under the rotor and spark goes crazy , im in Canada and so far holley has replaced them and at $1000 Canadian I'm glad they know they have a problem , my plan now is to scarp the sniper 1 its been junk after the first 100 or so miles gona try sniper 2 and cross my fingers
@@frostycools1315 check out theCraig909. We just put a sniper 2 on his crew cab truck. I like it a LOT more than sniper 1. Maybe you could JB weld the pickup in place to keep it from working loose? Seems pretty crappy.
Wow, thats a lot of work. Should be nice when your done. Thanks.
Whats better than a classic caprice?
Probably a Chevelle lol. But I love the B bodies. Caprice for life!
@@LugNutLang i want one too bad sadly it may not want me + I perfer the caprice lol, but its abput opinions
@@user-file-x-life definitely love the Caprice. It’s my baby and I will never get rid of this car. I am a huge 60s car fan. So to me like a 69 Chevelle or a 67 Caprice would probably be my all-time favorite cars.
@@LugNutLang nice, good choice, old cars are mostly if not ALWAYS better than new cars, old cars made when people wanted to make the best cars, the safest, the strongest, the most reliable, but now, they are just... yk, heck some stuff that u dont need to change in ur car before are now stuff that u should change after a long time or something
nice job
This is great work. Now I have been researching about doing this for myself. During my research (internet searching) I saw that the C5 hub bearing packs come with a wire harness plug out the back. What did you do with this? Can it just be eliminated since it is for a system not on my 1987 Caprice? Great video
@@josephkennedy3099 thank you! I am running C7 hubs which do not have the connector you are referencing. They bolt right on. And are supposed to have a larger bearing than the c5 and c6 hubs.
@@LugNutLang Thanks, I am now a subscriber. I have to wait on MY Caprice until I finish WIFES C10! Just preparing. I heard you when you said C7 hubs, but I did not know they did not have connector
Thank you! Glad to be of service!
so helpful nick!! can’t wait for part 2!
awesome vid!! i love this kind of stuff
so does this bypass the need for the holley CD Ignition Box???
You still need the Sniper Coil driver, or a traditional ignition box. The ECU can’t drive the coil itself. But this eliminates the need to buy the hyperspark distributor or hyperspark CD box
Pretty interesting stuff. Thanks for the video Lang!
@@Heatshieldproducts thanks for watching!
In the next one, Parker shows us nail painting!
Right at 5:56 where you were able to turn the shaft and rotor is a clue that the distributor has mechanical advance. Nice video overall.
That definitely should have been a clue. The truth is I have a lot more familiarity with EFI than with mechanical and analog ignition. Definitely always learning!
So stoked on this Lang! so happy to have your help on this car! can’t wait to tune with you!
that parker guy is hot…
Which wire you use for the headlight ?(dim)
There is a wire which goes to the or gauge cluster to turn on the cluster lights. I think it was gray.
Can’t wait to see that dash in! and the DB Skin!
Getting there!
Mouse pay?
So clean it out and move on!! We have all been there. It's just what happens. Mouse poop and pee, Eww! Little bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) dip, some sulfuric acid, or hydrochloric acid, and it's all new smelling again. Just rinse, repaint, and ALL GOOD!!!
Working on it. Been cleaning out 2 or 3 nights a week for a few months now. The seats were buried in rodent bedding and debris when this car was pulled from the field. And you couldn't see the valve covers past the debris in the engine bay. So this one is a bit for a process.
I'm not dogging you bro... I'm saying I've lived it!!! I know what needs done.. I'm offering you help on how to remove that stink... I restored a 71 C10 pickup, 2x 72 Chevelle's, a 78 GMC Heavy Half, and a 79 K20 Snow Plower... I've been there, many many times, and I know the answer!!! Don't embrace the stink!!! ELEMINATE the STINK!!!! Bro!!! Oh, and as for the belts, don't use the bleach or HCL, just soak them in dawn... Under the hood.... Fuck it.. Remove the debris and full send that shit... Mouse pee doesn't hurt the engine on 1st startup.. Troubleshoot the oiling issues next, if there are any!!!!!
I revised since your like, so please see again! thx. Great Luck to you!!! Hell Yeah Brother!!!
Looks fresh
Haha thanks

@@jamesortolano3983 thank you! Definitely gotta pace myself with this one! If I have a favorite I'm a little bit of a Chevy guy. But I think the big three all made some amazing classic vehicles. And I love American cars. Thanks for watching!
I am thinking about swapping my OG to a dakota digital. Can I use the control box that comes with it to control everything? Or will I need to run wires to other parts of the car. Such as the oil sending unit, distributor for tach etc? Thanks in advance and great video!
@@PrimeG2 what engine do you have? If running a carburetor you have to run more wires. The control box has an input for each gauge. You'll have to rujnwires and install the sensors that come with the kit if you aren't running a Holley or other EFI ECU system. I got the Holley adapter because it reduced the wiring I needed, since the Holley already gets most of that data from it's sensors.
@@LugNutLang I have the original 305 carbureted.
@@PrimeG2 you would have to add sensors then. The Dakota digital instruction manual is pretty good. you can find it on the product listing in their website
@@LugNutLang I finished mine this morning and it is worth every penny. I will be honest, it was a nightmare. Only because I am such a neat freak and wires were all over the place. I crimped my wires and pinned them down into my factory harness, there was no way that I was going to cut and destroy it. I just felt it would mess something up in doing so. But reading everything helped me. It is straight to the point. I have the VHX for the 1984 Caprice. I don't have the holley efi, so I had to run everything from the control box to my sensors and the factory harness. Works amazing and looks way better. Your video gave me hope!
@@PrimeG2 I bet it was a lot more work to use all the individual sensors!!!! Glad you got through it! Gauges are one of the things that really make the driving experience! Thanks for sharing! Hope to see it someday. What part of the country are you in?
