This woman is deluded. She picks one of the most evil couples, from the Bible, and elevates them. She has no concept of the damage she does for her lack of discernment. She seems to forget the terrible punishments that afflicted them. She has only her feminist agenda and does not really read and understand God's Word.

In which the Rev. Deb laments that religious priests were able to record historical events rather than Phoenician Royalty who Debra thinks would have written us a better story. Debra states that the Jezebel story has been "manipulated over and over again" by men throughout the centuries. However, WHOOPS!, in Rev. Debra's rewriting of 1 Kings she forgets(?) or simply omits the beginning of the story when Queen Jezebel begins assassinating the prophets of Yahweh, and hundreds more are forced to flee her murderous project and hide away in caves! Does Debra's congregation read the Bible enough to understand how she MANIPULATES them?

Jesus was once asked, "What is the greatest commandment?". He replied: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Sadly, Rowena Cage appears unfamiliar with the Gospel, and contradicts Jesus with the theme of her message being, "Love Yourself First". Not only is "Love yourself first" unBiblical, but comes directly out of our broken culture of selfishness, addiction, mental illness, confusion, and suicide. Neither speaker here reflects the good news of Jesus Christ. The entire theme of the service mistakenly elevates human sexuality over and above God's love for his children. How does this qualify for the context of a Methodist church?

Dear people of Urban Abbey, Rev. Debra smugly proclaims here that she doesn't believe in hell. But understand that Jesus of Nazareth believed in and preached about hell. In fact, Jesus spoke about hell more than any other person in the Bible. For example, In Matthew 25, Jesus tells of a time when people will be separated into two groups, one entering into his presence, the other banished to “eternal fire.” Or see Luke 16 and many others. In today's world it's quite out of fashion to speak about the uncomfortable topic of hell. Many worldly folks reject Jesus' teachings wherever Jesus' words don't "feel" right to them. Your pastor is one of those who is proud and claims herself knowledgeable enough to object and revise when Jesus got it wrong. “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves."

I don't know where this pastor gets her concept of "communal" salvation. It's not from Jesus, the New Testament, nor from any doctrine of the United Methodist Church. Jesus comes to us as individuals to knock at the door to our heart. Each of us must answer his knock of our own accord and invite him in. Our Biblical mandate has nothing to do with collective morality, shared political activity, or community organizing. Rather, our mandate from Jesus is the Great Commission: to call all persons to repentance and salvation through Christ crucified. I challenge Rev. Debra to reveal the source of her theology.

I very much thank and commend the woman (Chris?) from the Hanscom Park UMC for her reflection. Her beautiful poem, "Micro Chimera," deals with a profound theme; that fetal cells actually cross the placenta and remain with the woman who bears a child in her womb. In this way children conceived in love are literally a part of the mother in her brain and heart. So that even when a child is lost to miscarriage or abortion there remains a part of that precious baby's life which God is aware of, and never forgets. God keeps all of this and nothing is forsaken. Thanks be to God! May we remember and carry this poem in our mind and our heart! What a wonderful gift for Rev. Debra to use at the Unicameral or on TV the next time she is speaking on abortion and women's reproductive responsibilities!

Here Rev. Debra is speaking of Jesus healing the man with a Legion of Demons: "...That healing work, that's not unique to Jesus. That happened in all the different kinds of temples. What's unique to Jesus is that he brings it out to where the people are. What's unique to Jesus is that he's there in the cemetery among the dead, the space of tomb, bringing care to someone that everyone had given up on..." Thus for Rev. Debra, these kind of miraculous healings were commonplace in the first century occurring "in all the different kinds of temples". For Rev. Debra, Jesus is just another miracle healer, but with a better PR strategy than all the others. By the way, from where does Rev. Debra derive her claim that Jesus was "hanging around fisherman" because they were organizing on the issue of taxation?

Did you know that Islam teaches that Jesus was never crucified on the cross? Muslims claim that Allah would never have had his "prophet" Jesus die such an ignoble death by the hands of the Romans. And do you know the muslim source for this "information" did not arise until 600 years after the crucifixion? Practically every secular scholar of antiquity maintain that Jesus' crucifixion in Jerusalem is one of the most agreed upon facts of ancient history. Thus, it seems a singularly incomprehensible choice for the UA to invite a muslim speaker on this most holy holiday of the Christian calendar commemorating the Earthly death of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Did Rev. Debra happen to mention that The Gospel of Mary is a forgery? Textual critics and academic historians of antiquity are unanimous that the Gospel of Mary (and all of the extra-Biblical "gospels") were written long after all persons of the New Testament lived and died. This stands in stark contrast to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are all from the first century, written either by eyewitnesses or people who knew the eyewitnesses. Rev. Debra tells a story regarding an ancient fragment of the Gospel of John from the first century which may or may not have a small edit. Yet the Gospel of Mary is composed 100% from the imagination of an anonymous author living long after the events of Jesus' life in the first century. Does the fictional Gospel of Mary, and the medieval myths and legends about Mary give us creative freedom to pick and choose whatever we desire to believe as Rev. Debra suggests?

Rev. Debra speaks here on the Ten Commandments from Exodus and Deuteronomy. She states that a preferable translation should rather be "The Ten Statements". Statement number 1: I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall not have other gods before me. Regarding the first, Rev. Debra comments, "And while some folks might take this, "not having other gods" or "not having other idols" to mean specifically other religions, I think it's worth exploring all the things that we put between ourselves and what is loving." Her clear implication is that having "gods and idols" other than Yahweh might be perfectly acceptable. The Ten Statements are flexible or even moot if found to be oppressive, particularly to black and brown bodies or the most marginalized among us. Rather than Biblical scripture as authority, an individual must make moral choices based upon one's own human concept of "what is loving". Rev. Debra's message is: A. United Methodist Church doctrine B. Pantheism C. Utter nonsense D. A sophomore thesis E. None of the above

Speaking on "Water, Wells, and Salvation", Rev. Debra inexplicably leaves out the most relevant story for her theme. In John Chapter 4, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well and speaks to her of "salvation". At first, the woman thinks Jesus is talking about ordinary water, but he tells her plainly: "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Jesus describes HIMSELF as the Living Water.

Please be aware that the United Methodist Church does not recognize the Gospel of Mary as a legitimate or accurate source on the life of Jesus or Mary. Important criteria for inclusion in the New Testament canon was reliability and proximity to historical events. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were all written in the first century, and composed by either eyewitnesses or people who knew the eyewitnesses. They are considered highly reliable documents by scholars of antiquity. This is NOT true for the Gospel of Mary. The Gospel of Mary is universally dated by academic historians to the second century or later. Therefore, the Gospel of Mary is a forgery since all the Mary's of the Bible would have been long dead by the time of writing. I don't know if Rev. Debra is ignorant of this fact, or if she just chooses not to reveal it. The idea that the Gospel of Mary was rejected from the canon because it's written from a female perspective is simply false. All of the extra-biblical "gospels" such as the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Judas, and others were written long after the historical events, and therefore are unreliable historical sources. Regarding "Worm Loves Worm" in the context of the abbey, we should acknowledge that Christian marriage is a holy sacrament which reveals Jesus Christ, and through which his divine life and love are communicated. Jesus defined marriage quoting from the Book of Genesis. The read-along book reduces humans made in the image of God to mere worms, and reduces marriage to mere custom or tradition. On a scientific level there is no parallel between human and worm reproduction, and therefore the story is one of confusion for small children. Surely, this is mockery of a sacred institution?

There is a SIGNIFICANT different between banning books and limiting access to graphic pornagraphic material to adolescent children. Leftist are desperately trying to sexualize kids ... and they are making incredible progress. The increase in children with sever depression and committing suicide reflects is a result. Here's a good litmus test for material that is now in public school libraries ... if you can't read and show the material at a Board of Supervisors or School Board meeting, then maybe you shouldn't be letting 9 year old kids check it out without parental approval. Books should never be banned. However, that doesn't mean that books should also be freely provided to young kids. There is a reason we don't allow 5, 7, 12, 14 year old children to own guns, drink, drive cars, or decide (on their own) what they are going to eat or wear. The fact that this even has to be explained and debated is frightening. I pray our country corrects its course before it is too late ... but I fear that it is beyond the point of no-return.

The Bible book is One, Single, Solitary book!... and that is the total extent of your evidence to prove your god? The Bible is Fiction..! a Historical novel - ie a Fictional story using Historical events and peoples: This 'Bable' book is backed up by absolutely no facts and no evidence for gods...! It is a 'historical Novel', It is not proof for any god(s) Historical novel: The fables are intertwined within historical places and people.... eg Egypt and the Pharaohs existed, whereas Moses did NOT exist, and the Exodus did not happen... ! A 'global' flood never occurred on Earth! That David/Solomon are fables...! Jonah swallowed by a fish.....! 'Burning bush'? Those 'fasting' shamans were hallucinating, and usually on the local drugs...
