We all know the Leipzig recording 28-11-63.This one was recorded a week later (12-12-63)in Moscow and is worth listening to. He followed with Brahms OP118 as encores-he often played this Brahms as encores after Beethoven OP111.

How lovely to have this bit of Richter's performance in Carcassonne (even if the sound is imperfect)! This reminds us that Richter's generosity, love of music, and desire to share music with people far from metropolitan centers led him to give many, many recitals not only in rural France, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, but across the vast expanse of the USSR. Apparently, he was delighted to play for ordinary people in out-of-the-way villages and not only for the cultural elites in Moscow, Paris, London, and New York. It's a pity that he came to hold a negative view of the U.S. as this prevented him from ever knowing simple rural American communities.
Glad you appreciate these gems(more to come).These private recordings are unknown to Richter himself I would bet.Yet he would have disapproved any publication since he was never happy with his performance...so we will be the judge. Take OP111 from Beethoven:we all know the radio released recording of Leipzig.But this sonata was taped many times and most are equivallent to the Leipzig -to me anyway.

Dear Doremi Fasolla ;-) Thank you for this treasure! Regarding the Lausanne concert, you did not post the Prelude of the Suite bergamasque. Is the recording of the Prelude missing on the tape ?

Not true! Katchen was not the greatest! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Katchen=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov! More genius than Katchen=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini! More powerful louder than Katchen=Mikhail Pletnev( Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest was Lazar Berman! The 3rd Loudest was Erwin Nyiregyhazi! Horowitz his technique was better than Katchen's technique!!

Is that Richter up on your wall? --- I heard his amazing scriabin and prokofiev in Wien many years ago
yes it is Richter.Drawings made by a painter from photos out of old bulletins.
I saw Richter twice:in 1975 in Belgium with the Beethoven Hammerklavier and in 1992 with Scriabine(short pieces) and Beethoven sonata n°31 op 110 I have almost all his "pirate" recordings!
