@@Dgabit Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end ua-cam.com/video/fXSyCPongjA/v-deo.html
Greetings from Dunedin new Zealand we are having summer over here but the snow looks lovely.
Wow, I can't believe you're watching from Dunedin!. New Zealand is such a beautiful place. Thank you!
I think we went to easy on the "drugs" and "drug usage" Time to rein in the horns and bring this under control folks!
Makes you wonder how it's so easy for some of these people to get illegal drugs.
I live up at Manitoulin Island and it's so darn cold it's -15 C here.
Beautiful area to be. It's been cold down here too lately. Today was -8, feels like -14ish. Should warm up next week though.
Imagine the shrill shrieking of the lunatic left if this was being done for the construction of an expressway?
They are building even more homes here, so that's something positive.
Just sickening, NOT a civil country, completely unethical and abusive to let citicens suffer this way, no wonder they destroy themselves with drugs… and it is not cheaper to have ppl live like this when you look at all the costs, a completely government caused crisis growing for decades without investment in social housing.
Hundreds of millions of dollars get allocated for the homeless each year in Toronto, this should not be happening.
Can you update this video of what it looks like now Dec 2024?
I have some footage, will probably make a fall/winter one.
Volgograd metrotram be like:
I looked up Volgograd metrotram, it does have it's resemblance. The new Lvyonoks and Nevsky trams look pretty futuristic.
What a fantastic sunset view. What a beautiful city!
Yes such a beautiful area.
Here's another timestamp for your description, 1:10. A perfect example of the design principle, 'Form Follows Function'. The added armrest in the middle of the bench, prevents it from functioning as a resting place for a homeless person. Doesn't matter that it also prevents 2 well endowed people from sitting cozily together & the recreation of the end scene of Notting Hill. You know? Where pregnant Julia is lying down with her head in Hugh's lap. Wonder how the person this memorializes would feel about the design.
I like the thoughtful comment, thank you for that explanation. It is too bad that they need to design it in that way, unfortunate society has come to that. Hopefully people can still have a romantic moment here.
@Dgabit You're welcome. Yeah it is too bad. Thankfully, it's still not like that everywhere & there are actually places quite the opposite. I live in Montreal & in a very small park, (really just a little green space on a street corner), with several trees & a few benches (you can stretch out on), they installed an attractive wooden platform the size of a double bed that curved up on one side to support your back. Great for picnics & chilling out in the sun instead of being on the grass. Then, a few years later, they also installed a tubular metal construction that created a large open sphere where you could hook-up a hammock.
Feel sad for all the hopeless people who did that as their last walk 😢
Very sad indeed. Good thing the barriers have been added and deaths have been significantly reduced. Maybe giving someone a second chance.
What....? No grafitti yet??
Not yet, but with that big piece of concrete, it's probably just a matter of time.
That stuff is expensive wow
Probably about average cost across big box stores, but yes just like everything else now days, it's expensive. I've seen a lot of the $250 Minions in front of peoples houses in Toronto.
Tower? Man there is the cn tower aint no building gonna be taller
I don't think they will ever build higher then the CN Tower, but you never know. The SkyTower will be Canada's tallest overall building, the first building in Canada to exceed 100 floors, and will be home to the highest residences in the country.

Don’t make any claims of this being one of Canadas tallest buildings until it’s finished
Exactly. Talk is cheap. Very cheap.
That is true, who knows what's going to happen.
They did a nice job of painting the silos
Yes they did a good job fixing them up, huge difference from before. I want to see what the inside looks like now, because before it was all rusted and falling apart.
That old Lady Touch The Door That Says Back Sign
I think she is trying to get inside.
huge project and barely any workers . wonder why construction is so slow
The parks are supposed to open in 2025 so that should be good. Everything else has a long way to go.
This is painful to watch because something just doesn't add up. Pierre Poilievre is after Trudeau day after day in the H. of C. telling us that there isn't enough housing in Canada and here houses are being taken down in one of the most housing congested cities in the nation while homeless people put up tent cities in parks. Somebody really screwed up badly because the optics on this just look wrong, wrong, wrong.
Many families were displaced for this project, but hopefully the future Transit Community that will be built here will be worth it. I recently made an update video of this area which shows it. Right now this is the plan for this area, "The proposed community is anticipated to deliver approximately 439 residential units, providing a range and mix of housing options, including affordable housing. Approximately 35% of the proposed residential units within the Pape TOC are currently planned as 2 or 3-bedroom units suitable for families or larger households." This is not including a proposed separate high rise building which would be attached to this development on the corner of Pape and Danforth.
@@Dgabit Well sir, I hope your aspirations are correct and that the focus of these projects does not become trapped in cycles of corporate money laundering and grab their cut takers and splitters. Thank you for responding to me.
Any affordable housing?
This is what is being said right now. "The proposed community is anticipated to deliver approximately 439 residential units, providing a range and mix of housing options, including affordable housing. Approximately 35% of the proposed residential units within the Pape TOC are currently planned as 2 or 3-bedroom units suitable for families or larger households." This is not including the separate development of proposed high rise building on the corner of Pape and Danforth.
@@Dgabit Taking a look at recent TCHC affordable housing that are accepting application we see your incoem must be between 16,392 and 65,568 annually using a RGI calculation for rent of 1366 for a one bedroom That eliminated people on disability and welfare and it eliminate minimum wage workers. They are entry level professional positions at this income range. Figure recent graduates from university with about 5 years' experience who want o get on the housing ladder.
@@PWingert1966It’s all very interesting. On the Toronto Housing website it says “If rent is $1500 a month, the max annual household income limit to be eligible for the unit is, $1500 x 4 x 12 months = $72,000. Therefore the applicants annual household income must be at $72,000 or less for this example”
A new transit-oriented community to replace the twenty-five houses that they expropriated and demolished removing twenty-five families from the neighborhood first!
Yep a whole neighbourhood transformed. I heard the families got good money for their homes though. Hopefully the new community will bring much needed affordable homes to the area.
It sucks, but it is a cost we sometimes have to be willing to pay. Now, I’m speaking as someone who hasn’t had to be relocated for the sake of Ontario Line construction, but a city is never static unfortunately. But transit oriented development is a good thing as long as there’s enough built of it (which Toronto has not), and it is much better than trying to solve the housing crisis by continuing to destroy the greenbelt with an unsustainable single-family housing model. I’m hoping these new developments are actually affordable, however. Also, Pape and Danforth is the centre of the “greektown” district, so I’m hoping these new buildings will be able to maintain that vibe the area is supposed to have. I’m sure they can, but I am kinda sick of almost every single high-rise apartment building just being a big hunk of glass and steel.
@@ChromatiXWasTaken I would prefer to see social housing repalce affordable housing since we must have a palce for peopel to start and affordable housing is more of a high middle ground htese days. But I agree that a price must be paid and I think we will see this happen in the future as well.
@ Oh yeah, that’s true too. I definitely support building more social housing and honestly, transit oriented social housing would probably be the best way of doing it since they wouldn’t be forced to buy a car to get to work (or have much less incentive to buy one). It’s a shame the term has such a strong stigma here with being very rundown and all that because of how little care social housing gets in North America. Countries like Austria and Singapore are able to make their social housing look better than our standard apartments (at least from what I’ve seen), so ugly social housing could probably be fixed with a change in policy we seem unwilling to make.
@@ChromatiXWasTaken Thank you for your insightful comment. Lots to think about in-terms of housing for the average person.
Hi :) 6:03
Nice catch. This guy actually started coming after me with his bike.
What's with all the wooden poles?
@@dadejazzba402 Good question. From the project renderings, the area with all the wooden poles looks to be a big park/playgrounds and gathering space for events. So I’m assuming they will be poles for big flood lights. There are a lot of them though.
1:58 thats why construction is slow in Toronto eating while working
@@jadwehbe_ Well at least the machine is on and working I guess.
If this would happen in third world country western media would call it pollution
I wouldn’t be surprised. Thanks for the comment!
Really nice, but I hope the chain link fence is temporary.
Even though it officially opened, they are still working on the silos area and the event building. I’m assuming the fence will come down after that. Thanks for the comment!
These are junkies and drug addicts a normal person would work two full tine jobs not tobe in this position tgese people are lazy and tgey rhink tgey are entitled to free money
There are millions of dollars in resources to help someone get off the street, unfortunately most of these people battling mental issues.
Looks like an improvement to me...
The new apartments, new transit, new community should be a great improvement.
What people need to understand is, the city councillors think it's the homeless' freedom to tent wherever they like. They won't force them to go inside even if they have spaces. They also think we shouldn't be intervening with their drug use. These so called safe drug injection centres really did nothing except attract people to the areas. The homeless do drugs at the injection centre then do drugs in the park. I'm sorry but this isn't progressive. It's just plain stupid policy. And this is the result. The city spending millions on doing nothing. These tenters go in and out of shelters endlessly. And many of them end up dying from drugs or the cold.
Recently Olivia Chow rejected an offer from the province to use a legislative hammer to help deal with the issue of encampments. Instead she is making a pitch to Torontonians to accept new homeless shelters in their neighbourhood. Which of course, residents and local councillors do not want near them. It's a very bad situation for everyone.
@ people like Chow are still living in the 1960s. They are convinced that the huge public housing projects built in the past wasn’t building ghettos. They refuse to review the 50-60 yrs of violent gang stats connected to public housing. Then they prioritize “individual freedom” to do crippling drugs over community safety. It’s fine having people kill themselves doing drugs in parks than respect public safety. Their reaction to the community reluctance to having these homeless things in the community is pathetic. They will call everybody NIMBYs instead of acknowledging that there’s a lot of issues that come along with these projects. The main reason people don’t want public housing or govt run homeless projects in their communities is because they know the govt will screw it up.
Wtf has happened to Ontario any Canadian left in there move out fast.
It's a major problem in the GTA and only getting worse.
Awesome
Thank you for the nice comment!
Stop sending money to other countries ! We can’t house and feed people here. And zero immigration and refugees for 3 years. No body ! Turn around and go back. If you are persecuted in your country for your views or sexual orientation then don’t be that way in your own country.
The City is too relaxed with these encampments and it is getting a lot worse. See a tent, report it, shut it down asap.
@@RR-xu5xk It does look worse out there right now. The city needs to make a dedicated homeless camping area, then clean up everywhere else.
Will they be building condos here?
It says the island will have a modern mixture of mid-rise buildings with almost 5,000 new homes for about 10,000 residents. I believe a mixture of condos, rentals and affordable housing.
@@Dgabit Okay thanks for the info. And do you know when they will start construction?
@@OmgKyo No problem. It will be completed in multiple phases with completion expected between 2040 and 2050.
