How to Pick up Stitches on a Sock Gusset
A common question I get from new sock knitters is how to pick up stitches along the gusset... look no farther!

Thank you, I'll be trying this with a wip sock!!!
@@maribethclark2798 can't wait to hear how it goes
So pretty
Thank you!
Very satisfying video ❤
Or maybe a four leaf clover 🍀
A frog or tree leaves 🤷♀️
How do you get it to lock in and stay in place?
When you spin with beads or sequins in your singles, you fold a tiny section of wool from above the bead to below the bead. That locks the bead in place when you spin and there is a tiny bit of wool along the bead.
It’s excellent for mental health. It can be like a meditative process. That’s one reason some of my videos are just me spinning.
So very true!
This would save me so much time and frustration! And it’s so simple, too!
I find this method doesn't work too well with the way I prefer to spin. I keep forgetting it is there and gave to unlisted the yarn from behind it.. blerg
I have fallen in love with core spinning over the last year. I didn’t use to love it, but since I started making a project made entirely of crocheted core spun yarn, I love the flexibility of it. It’s great for colorful art yarn! P. S. You poor woman! You woke up to me bingeing your shorts!
Hahahaha... was eating when I read this and nearly spewed my food.... girl, this made my day!
@@FairilyFiberFun I do what I can! 😁
I love chain plying. I often do it for my thick and thin art yarn. I can do yarn like the yarn you are spinning, but I have more fun with art yarn.
I've never chain plied an art yarn. I'll have to give that a go
@jillianeve has explained it multiple times, but I still can’t remember the difference between a worsted and woolen yarn. I know one of them has a lot of air in it and is great for warm sweaters, while the other is used for light things.
Woolen is airy and fluffy. Worsted is smooth and dense
Is that Andean plying?
Yes, except it should not be called "Abdean" as it has nothing to do with the Andean people. I call it figure 8 bracelet or bracelet plying
@@FairilyFiberFun oh right, I forgot that. I have seen it called that, though.
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR right. I'm trying to be more conscious of the terms I use and how offensive they may be to the people those terms represent. It's hard to keep track of and I make mistakes a lot
You’ve gotten me inspired. The next thing I put in my Etsy store will be mystery art batts. 😊
Sounds fun!
This would be great unintentional ASMR without the music, just the sounds of the weaving.
True
Mars?
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR almost... Jupiter
How do you put sequins on the wool?
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR you thread them onto little tufts of wool before you spin
Is that a supported spindle?
It is a support spindle, yes.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
I don't see a link to your friend Alli?
It is at the top of the shownotes: @@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR
@@FairilyFiberFun sorry! I didn't read closely enough. Thank you!🤗 💜
@@deborahhawe4432 no problem! I do it all the time... hugs!
Hi! Added Colors of Hope crafts to my playlist. Thanks Adriana
This seems to have been a wonderful go-with-the-flow spin! Especially the flying neps! It was a joy to watch. You’re right about beginners in anything being among the best teachers for other beginners. You struggle with the same things, and there’s a unique perspective to be had from a beginner getting to grips with the basics and explaining a solution. I’m a beginner myself, having discovered spinning only a year ago and some of the most useful feedback I’ve gotten was from watching videos made by other beginners. Sometimes they provided me with insights that helped me and at other times I’ve been able to provide useful feedback for them. That led me to daring to react to ‘beginner videos’ from experienced spinners, adding what I felt might contribute and I was surprised by how helpful those content creators reacted. Always so positive and kind, and apparently, my little additions were useful. Happy spinning!
@eddavanleemputten9232 yes!!!! I'm so happy you agree on beginners teaching beginners! The batt was absolutely lovely to spin and so fun to relax and not try to force it to become something specific. We all need those types of projects every now and then. Hugs and thanks so much for come ting and sharing your thoughts.
This is so good! I love it! Thank you for doing the collaboration. I hope to get yours out soon. Thank you for understanding and support when James was in the hospital and then the first month of recovering.
Absolutely! I understand the stress and mental fatigue. I'm glad you are both doing better
That turned out really cool! What are you going to do with it?
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR no idea yet. Washing made it perfectly balanced
@@FairilyFiberFun does that mean it no longer looks like that?
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR yup! It looks totally normal now
These videos are so soothing and satisfying 😍

Thanks for showing up close which looks to be three needle binding off. Your mile long smile says it all! Great spin to knit a wardrobe piece.!
@maribethclark2798 thank you, Darling! It has fast become my favorite top
I never swatch lol x
@@sadiesspincraft6319 I decided swatching is for color or stitch pattern decisions, and needle size, not gauge... gauge can be checked while making the product
You did an awesome job with this and the top look fantastic on you. 👏
Thank you so much!
It looks lovely on you and i love it ❤xx
Thank you so much
Omg i got so tangled in your dpns lol im glad its you doing that and not me as i would of launched it across the room several times lol x
Hahahahaha....
This was helpful, I have an alpaca fleece that is full of VM. I have hope now that I can salvage the fleece!
Is it a lace shawl xx
Loved this video thanks for giving me inspiration for socks as I'm getting a bit scared for socktober lol xx
You got this!
Gorgeous colours I've just dyed a full fleece of suffolk. I can't wait to see your pumpkins xx
Eeeeek! Suffolk is so amazing! What colors did you use?
@@FairilyFiberFun bright aqua, berry crush, moss green, honey mustard, teddy bear brown, midnight blue and platinum, lol an array of colour but alas 2 more fleece to dye but I have run out of vinegar so on the wait for a few days xx
@@FairilyFiberFun I'm hoping to get socks and maybe a jumper out of them x
@sadiesspincraft6319 those colors sound gorgeous! I can't wait to see the end result. I ran out if vinegar the other week and the stores were out, too! It was horrid... but I finally found some and all is well
Maybe you were confused using yards?? Love the failed bronze!! ❤❤ Good to see you again
@maribethclark2798 thank you and that might be it since there are around 400 yards in each skein.
So nice! Beautiful!!!!❤❤❤❤
It’s really helpful to see how this short stuff turned out!
@@sleepydrJ so happy to hear my video was helpful! Happy spinning
Did you say you need a respirator for this? The roving and batt turned out beautiful!
@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR respirator or very good quality mask is needed for keeping your lungs safe whole working with powder chemical dyes. They are quite toxic and can damage the lungs
@@FairilyFiberFunYikes. I think I’ll have to stick to food grade dyes if I’m going to dye at home. But they can still look pretty, although maybe not as vibrant as yours or come in as many colors.
@@ColorsofHopeCraftsASMR you can still use chemical dyes as long as you wear some form of mask and have good ventilation and don't dye all the time like I do.. lol
