THE FLEA
First running of my new Flea built by Mark Bruto of Placerville, CA. It is a 1/3 scale model of a hit and miss stationary farm engine. I unpacked it, read the book, lubed it up, fueled it up and started it. No adjustments needed. Nice little engine!
Yes, it is on the kitchen counter. I live alone. LOL!

Saluting the Compass 1/1/2014
Переглядів 21611 років тому
A New Year's day tradition of saluting the four points of the compass in hopes it will once again provide us with safe boating. Due north at noon, a blast of the horn and a shot of your refreshment of choice. Swing east and repeat, south and west. Followed with a mass invasion of old salts upon the port of Friday Harbor with an impromptu parade, of sorts. Then on to Shipyard Cove Marina for pot...

Plowing snow on the Boot Camp Railroad. We got a light snow today so of course we had to go play in it. Snow plow is also my rotary rail brush for most of the year so it still has the two batteries for the rotor motor on board for added weight. Loco is an SD-45 Aristo with added weight also. Box car is the power source with two LiPo packs. The single diesel did okay until it got deep so we call...
Live steam at 28*
Переглядів 32611 років тому
Running Aristo Craft live steam Makado once around my main line. Temperature was 28* in the sun. The loco has been sitting on a shelf for over a year but ran fine. Cold weather sure makes for some great plumes! It also makes for some very lumpy roadbed. I had to go around and stomp down some frost heaves under the right of way just to make it passable.

    I leaned to sail in my family's bluenose. You know I know what I'm talking about, because the bluenose by McVay Yachts is actually 23 1/2 feet, and has almost a full half of the boats weight in the keel. They made boats with a serious amount of fibreglass back in the 1970s, because the traditional builders doubted its strength and resilience in the beginning. Its a different story today. Also, operating a sailboat and consuming alcohol in that time period wasn't considered a problem, which was strange to me even in the 70s? I was only able to sail the confines of Lake Ontario, The Thousand Islands, and of course the associated locks and waterways. My father was no fair weather sailor though, and I can remember scanning the lake on Saturday mornings for foul weather, because Saturdays from April until November were sailing days, and storms were his specialty. I can remember may days sailing from the marina with nobody else in view, and three times where the local coastguard (now TOWARF whatever that means) came out specifically to see that we were alright, and went directly back to station, lol. As I got further into my teens, it was becoming more difficult to ignore the call of the wild ( girls, music, libations, the mall, cars, etc), and our boat "Michelle" (after the Beatles song) was sold when I was 19 or 20. I was working a lot, and Dad had both his motorcycle and the boat to keep him busy. I suppose it was my father's kamikaze sailing exploits, that frightened away anyone else from joining him sailing. I was the only one who was his constant companion out on the stormy lake, and had become accustomed to that type of sailing. Looking back on it all now, my father was a speed freak, and probably would be sailing a catamaran or trimaran today, as all you could sail was a 16 foot Hobie Cat back then, and it didn't have cup holders. I dream about a Neel 51 theses days, and a decent budget to sail the 7 seas (or however many there are today). Honestly I can't get it out of my head these days. But at 55, and the wonderful financial climate these days, I'm not holding my breath. I expect to be working for many more years than my father did. Maybe we should have kept the bluenose?

    I've always been interested in the McVay Bluenose. Missed my chance to buy one here in Colorado about 5 years ago. Does yours have a keel stepped mast that goes through the top of the cabin? or is it deck stepped w/ a compression post?

    • @BeezrGeezr
      @BeezrGeezr 4 роки тому

      It is a wonderful boat albeit a bit much to single hand for this seventy four year old man. I couldn't justify a roller furling jib and all the deck hardware to route everything to the cockpit. I realized that I am too old to do the foredeck thing, especially solo, any longer, so I sold her a few months ago. Somebody, before me, cut the bottom of the mast off and it is now the compression post under a tabernacle mount. So, yes. It is deck stepped. I hope you find one. Mine was on a great trailer and solar powered trolling motor with panel and battery. Even with all that I had to grovel to get $2500 for it, so don't pay too much! Good luck!

    Hello sir, by chance would you have a blueprint on how to make this type of loading and unloading box I have several G scale steam locomotives and would like to make something similar to what you have. Can you possibly provide another video showing the actual unit without the train on it. I do like the idea of using the split jaw railer.
