How to make some money for your LS Swap or Build.
I just bought one of these the next size up. Have you found and company contact info or anything
Imagine trying to build that bridge in that water
It is pretty wild man
Great all I have to do is BUY A FORKLIFT… that’s really cheap 😂!
Might find one cheaper than you think! Haha
47 ft lb plus 60* would be achieved by marking the block one point of the six point crank bolt after the 47 ft lbs is achieved and then tightening the bolt from the previous point to the mark on the block. Since he first tightened the bolt with his impact wrench he has no idea how tight it actually was before the torque wrench was applied. Remember, 360* divided by 6 ( the six points of the bolt) equals 60* for one flat of the bolt.
Four hrs? 😂I really do think that it took him at least eight hours. 🤷🏼
Good for you buddy haha
"...I imagine they hold a decent amount of Grease" (After seeing that garden-tiller-gauge belt setup, I imagine the grease is just dumping into the core of the drum!)
More weight hahah
Nothing like a real machine which would have shred everything in a few seconds.
Yes but some people don't have the luxury of buying a 100k track loader and 40k mulching head or they might not want to go into extreme debt doing so.
@@hollowaysgarage9332 I hired a professional for $1400/day who cleared most of 20 acres in two days. Money well spent. He even shredded honey locust trees up to 12 inches and thirty feet tall in just a few minutes.
Nice truck is that a vortec motor?
Thanks, yes 6.0 . I have a playlist with the build if you want to check it out. Hoping to have it on the road before spring
Cool sounds good
Be careful raising that mulcher head up above the cab, I'm pretty sure that door is just standard glass and that would hurt like hell to have a piece of wood come at you. There is a forestry door you can get that has shatter proof plexi-glass.
Thanks, I put thick lexan on it. It's supposed to be shatter proof. I typically try not to lift it too high though, I don't like things flying back towards the cab.
Looks good. Had little to No oil pressure on startup though, unless your gauge is busted😂
It's good 10k miles later. It sat for months without running so I'm sure it took a second for it to build pressure.
So somebody with a truck like that couldn't jump a battery. No title i get but for that price its stolen. And i mean the truck.
Some people don't want to deal with stuff. Lift pump was wired backwards so it had a parasitic drain. Guy got tired of jumping/replacing batteries I guess haha
Cheap. Until it breaks. Then it costs the same as a HD unit.
Idk everything is easily replaced. At this price point you cant lose really and I'm not a fan of Chinese shit
You should do a video showing what this sucker can do!
I sold it. I'll try to do one if I get another. I can do one on my ramrod 3300
Was that the hydraulic pump making the squirrely noise when you first started it? pretty handy machines.
No the electric fan on it. Definitely handy machines. Plenty of mods you can do to keep them running a long time too.
I'm still wondering about that belt when it stops.
It did stop on me a few times but I'm not sure if the hydraulic motor was even able to spin it once it stopped.
@@hollowaysgarage9332 My concern was the cogged belt, when it stops would be destroyed but I guess not, have you looked at the belt again, if you do please let me know. Thanks for the reply!
Your push bar looks backwards
Yeah I had a lot of people say that on the last video. I haven't had a chance to switch it around but I will soon. Thanks a lot for the feedback and checking out the video!
I’m local to you and have a nice long bed for that truck!!!
That’s awesome! I was talking to someone on marketplace but I couldn't find the listing again, maybe it was you ? Haha
@ my cousin gave you my number a couple weeks ago
@@JohnnyKetterman oh yea sweet. I'll give you a shout when I get it back from being blasted
@@hollowaysgarage9332 cool sounds good, I’ve got a whole 2wd 2500 parts truck that’s super solid so I’ll have a good amount that you may need
It worked good for what it is.
Ya I can't complain that's forsure! Hopefully I'll make some modifications to make it work a little better too
I agree if you can add teeth in the gaps it would make it tons better. Balancing the weight must be tricky. The extra weight might cause problems with the belt also. I've got an 873 also and I'd love to get a mulcher working. I've gotta do a case drain as well. Do you have a parts list from your order for that? Thanks for the vid man. Very informative
Sure thing buddy! I don't have a list off hand but if you look at my other videos I think it was 3 before this one I do a case drain on the 873.
@hollowaysgarage9332 I watched the case drain vid also. It was very helpful and I will probably order a little over the 14' you did. I'm just terrible with fittings parts and that's why I was wondering if you could share the parts list for the case drain. Mainly for the fittings and I'd like to probably use the same company you ordered from. Keep up the good vids man, I'm mainly interested in your 873 stuff but I'm a 2nd Gen Dodge Cummins 24v guy also. I've got 2 of the beasts. You got content that I'm into anyways.
I’m adjusting mine now what side did you do first and where did you put the strap? Was the strap on the whole time for the adjustment?
If I remember right I just put it on the stick and tightened it until it was in a neutral area then tighter the bolt on the rod. It's a pain in the butt and I have to do one side again because it will want to drift a little
I think welding more teeth would do wonders. Nice work.
That's the plan. I'll probably throw 4 more in the center of it if I can find someone locally to balance it. Thanks for checking it out I'll have better footage of it next time I use it with the chest mount go pro.
What they are listing as flow is actually pressure 21 mpa equals about 3000psi
Yea I'm not sure how to translate that into the volume of the flow though.
it is NOT a pump it is a motor
Been thinking of adding one thanks
Glad I could help. I'll have another video up soon after using it for a small job.
@@hollowaysgarage9332 Tighten up
Whoever manufactures that jacket use this in there advertisement because when it got spat out at the 25:14 mark it still looked wearable 😅
🤣 it's the one I'm wearing in the video... Just kidding that was some geotextile fabric haha
The blades are not staged or staggered.
Also, you want that push bar to take the force rather than the drum, if you hit something you can’t push over and mulch, you’re beyond capacity of mulched and skid steer, the bigger trees, you’re better off to drop em with chainsaw and then mulch them, those blocks on one side of drum are likely just weights placed to balance the shaft, I’ve modified these things for some land clearing jobs we did, adding teeth, you’ll want to have the drum re-balanced, I take them to a a driveline shop that balances driveshafts…..cheap insurance.
What's it typically run to have them balanced ? I'm really considering welding a few more teeth to the center of the drum. I used it the other day and I found it's easiest with the way it's setup now to just ease in and move side to side like you're running a stump grinder to cut through the trunk. I tried a GoPro mount on my head for this next video but the footage sucks lol there's a before and after though that gives you a good idea of how it worked out.
@@hollowaysgarage9332 sorry for the delay, this got buried in the feed. Price is reasonable, seemed to cost more at smaller equipped shops, assume a “pain in the ass surcharge “ if their equipment is a bit on small side. The cheapest was 375.00 at a shop that was equipped to handle small to industrial sized balancing needs. 650.00 was at a smaller car/truck driveline shop. Yeah, it sounds like it’s a lack of cutters/to sparse of a tooth placement pattern that has it seemingly cutting better when moving side to side. vee type patterns that spiral wrap around the drum have been what I’ve tried to shoot for if adding teeth (again prioritizing balancing the pattern)
Awesome 😎
Thank you! Cheers buddy!
Keep with the belt type drives, they prevent snapping shafts better than shear pin type set ups if something jams up. You could get thicker cog belt if it’s slipping/snapping but need to be careful not to move the weakest link to the pump shaft or drum shafts by changing to a stronger belt. An effective “happy medium “ may be to get longer belt and add a HEAVY DUTY spring loaded tensioner to help absorb higher shock loads if you get in to that area of need.
Yes definitely would rather blow belts than anything else haha
@@hollowaysgarage9332my not so different mulcher went with 4 v belts instead of that toothed timing style belt. Like you said, if the head stalls... That belt is getting eaten. It'd be a simple switch to pulley and belt sheaves. I've stalled the head and lost a belt... Never all. Good luck with the mods
Where did you purchase it and how much are they?
You can find them at alot of auctions. For 5-6k usually
When i remove my jump plate i put it on the lift like you did and lower it onto jack stands then remove the center bolt and lift the deck straight up and then it will lower back down pretty easy
How did the belt do?
I haven't looked at it yet I'm going to mulch up some cedar behind my shop tomorrow. I'll video it and do an update on the belt and all for ya
@@hollowaysgarage9332 Thank You
You To much grease lol..usually we grease FAE mulcher 4 pumps, every 4 hours.
She's good for like 59 hours then haha guess I'll be doing a video on how to replace the seals next 😆
@ lol definitely.. hopefully the bearings arent sealed! .. They recommend us to use hand pumps to, so we bought their hand pump guns, cause they make sure to theor tubes are different then normal tubes of grease.. screw into the handpump lol It did not bad though, sounds like the machine has more pressure to give but the couplers maybe small. Just dont hit rocks, and make sure to have spare teeth, to replace the broken ones so it stays balanced
the thing about cheep stuff, you can mod it the way you want and not feel too bad, in the center area you could also try some other type of teeth or add more, drill out the holes and thread retap. so the center is better for trees and the sides are better for the ground.
That's the truth. I looked into teeth holders and they're about $100 each not including the teeth. I may stick a few more on there but I'm worried about trying to get it balanced afterwards.
Turn the big black bracket to the vee shape is away from the cabin.
You can always add additional teeth!
Swap the hoses and it should spin backwards. Can't harm anything. If you mark the top section as to the location of the teeth it should also help. Good luck.😊
I thought about that, as long as I can flip the teeth without any problems I might do that. I also thought about welding more teeth on but the tooth holders are pretty dang expensive unless I just cut a bunch of 1"x" blocks and drill them out to take the teeth.
I'd change the pump to better fit that machine
I'm going to send it in the woods and see how she does. Worse comes to worse I can swap pumps but I'm hoping to have a track machine with high flow this year at some point.
@hollowaysgarage9332 iv looked into that drum before and saw how the teeth where done on it was nuts. But what blows me away is that little belt like that thing is hanging on for dear life lol. Idk much about pullys but would changing the pully size do better to save money then a pump
@@dakotak8437 the fact the teeth are so spaced is probably the only reason it doesn't stop with standard flow. I'm going to try and get a belt from Napa to have on hand. That things waiting to break haha
@@hollowaysgarage9332 most definitely. And who ever welded that up you can tell either didn't care or was bad bc thos big blocks on the right side of the drum shows how out of balance it is they should be that big and should be smaller and at least some small ones on there side that's bad. And idk if it's just me but some of them teeth looked a little crooked on there placements
@dakotak8437 ya some of the teeth are cocked a bit but I think it's just from when they were tightened
I also used a porta power from harbor freight to push or pull between the two arms it worked so much easier
Good call, I'll do that next time for sure. I was trying to get it done without spending much more money but can't have enough tools!
If you have to remove bushings in the future on something that is hard to get at I usually cut a swell in the busing or a slice at a diagonal carful not to cut to far and chisel it inwards and crush it and it usually comes out easy enough and then pushing the new ones in if they go easy then I just use a large c clamp if it’s hard to press the new bushings in at auto Zone or auto parts store I rented for free a ball joint press or a king pin press works better thanks for that videos! Dale at Otto’s Plumbing and HVAC
That's a great tip, thanks Dale! I'll have to keep that in mind for the next time I'm stuck.
You’re spot on about the teeth. Obviously there shouldn’t be those huge gaps.
Correct but you pay for a cheap drum that's what you get.
Sorry should’ve waited
The push bar is backwards and two far forward
It's actually mounted the right way but I think I'm going to cut the rear bars so they're shorter and about flush with the entry of the teeth on the drum.
Agreed. It wouldn't let the drum engage the trees
@@hollowaysgarage9332 no, it’s technically on backwards. There designed to push the tree over as the drum engages the tree. I’ve always ran Fecon, FAE and what I’ve learned if you’re going into a big brush pile if you will tilt the head all the way back they won’t hang up so easy.
I agree .. the V shape is to direct the trees and brush towards the center of the mulching head.
@@kalegorskey9192agreed you could clearly see in the video the bar keeping the drum from engaging the tree.
Thanks for the video! How much is it ? Where do you buy it?
Sure thing ! I got it and at auction. They're typically $5-6k or so plus auction fees.
She needs more power
Yes this standard flow 74hp barely gets by with it. Just gotta use some finesse and she's alright I guess.
worked way better than I thought it would! nice!
Yea not too shabby. I'll do a job with it and do a little video review on it and see how she holds up.
Good job. Nice project no one else covers.
Thanks, I appreciate you checking it out! I was looking myself through forums and all over the web and couldn't find much on the 873 so I figured what the heck, it's simple but hopefully will help someone else!
Paid 6k for my 08 LMM 1 ton dually, hard starting issues. The dude had some kinked as shit garden hose on a section of fuel line lol.
Those are the wins we need haha
I paid 2x that for my 08 LMM dually recently. Owner mentioned that there is an issue with the fuel lines crimps on these but I put 20K on it and will take a look at the crimps when I get moved to new home. I would never buy a vehicle without a title
@@kenny6055 it was worth 10k in parts and I verified that it wasn't stolen.
I am happy it worked out for you and was not stolen. Really nice truck for cheap, well done
@kenny6055 definitely got lucky. Had to do the Waterpump recently and I'm going to have to rebuild the hydroboost and front end soon and now last week it started leaking a little diesel on the passenger side from the engine somewhere so it's never too easy it seems haha. If you run into any of those issues feel free to check back. I should have videos on all of it and hopefully they can help you.
oil drain plug is right at bottom of the block the square head in the video
Nice intro to this machine. I just bought one and plan to do the same swap. BTW @PovertyPointCustoms has a video on changing the oil - the drain plug is the horizontal bolt on the back of the block to the right and lower than the yellow fill plug. It just drains right onto the frame.
Thanks a lot. Yea there actually a hose you can buy that should thread into the drain so you can direct it into a jug much like a zero turn.
