World Ocean Day Reefs Go Live 2024: Corals in a Changing Climate
REEFS GO LIVE 2024 EPISODE 4: Corals in a Changing Climate: A Dive into the Future of Coral Reefs
Date: Friday, 7 June
Time: 10am (UTC -5h)
As we look around us, the impacts of climate change are ever-present and increasing in severity, with 2023 being the hottest year on record. This broadcast takes a deep dive with CCMI’s researchers into how climate change affects our oceans and coral reefs, the impacts of last year’s increased water temperatures on Little Cayman’s reefs, how CCMI is working towards helping corals to survive these pressures, and how you can help too.
Research projects contributing to the information shared in this episode include the coral bleaching monitoring funded by CCMI's Healthy Reefs sponsors (Foster's, Supermarkets, Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, and Knighthead Annuity) and the Blue Carbon Offset and Biodiversity Programme, which is made possible by Butterfield. The in-person event at the Camana Bay Cinema is supported by Dart.
To participate in the interactive portion of Reefs Go Live, with live question and answer, polls, and engagement with CCMI’s team in Little Cayman, register and join us here: donate.reefresearch.org/rgl2024
You can still watch along on CCMI’s Facebook page and UA-cam channel, but our team may not have the opportunity to see your questions or respond during our broadcast.
We broadcast LIVE from underwater along the coast of Little Cayman, a Mission Blue Hope Spot in the Cayman Islands. All times are in UTC -5h; each broadcast lasts approx. 40 min. The best way to take part in these broadcasts is via our new event platform where everyone joining us can communicate with our team through an interactive chat and engaging polls.
We also provide education materials that pair with the broadcast. Be sure to invite your friends, family, and any potentially interested students to join us. Register at donate.reefresearch.org/rgl2024
Reefs Go Live is supported by the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Foundation.

What an obscure charity to support while human beings are starving and suffering all over the world. I guess wealthy retirees want to keep their favorite scuba and snorkling spots clean. How about taking up a collection for all of Brian Jones' illegitimate children? I'm sure they could use the help!

I’m more convinced than ever that protecting and planting coral and trees are two of the most important ecological actions we can take. Thanks for this amazing study and all of your work!

As a "sports diver", I don't have much experience however this brought tears because I appreciate & love all the diversity that is below the surface...brought anger too. Just today Trump opened up Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, the only Atlantic Marine Reserve, to commercial fishing...idiot. this undermines all that we've been working towards for years. Look, it took decades for Little Cayman to be where it is today. Intense management & protections are saving The Little Caymens. Congrats to Carrie for persevering. I knew her dad, Eddie.
