CCMI’s vision is a world with vibrant oceans and healthy coral reefs.We will make this vision a reality by undertaking cutting edge, impactful research and transforming this research into conservation and education initiatives to bridge the gap between knowledge and action.
CCMI was founded in 1998 to protect coral reefs through research, education and conservation. At the groundbreaking for the Little Cayman Research Centre (LCRC) in 2005, HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and CCMI Royal Patron, dedicated the site “to sustain biodiversity so that the children of the world may forever discover the treasures of the sea.” The reefs around Little Cayman, championed by CCMI to be recognised as a Mission Blue Hope Spot in 2020, truly are treasures of the sea and offer insight for coral reefs globally. Research projects contributing to the information shared in this episode include the coral bleaching monitoring funded by CCMI's Healthy Reefs sponsors (Foster's, Supermarkets, Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, and Knighthead Annuity) and the Blue Carbon Offset and Biodiversity Programme, which is made possible by Butterfield. The in-person event at the Camana Bay Cinema is supported by Dart.

As a "sports diver", I don't have much experience however this brought tears because I appreciate & love all the diversity that is below the surface...brought anger too. Just today Trump opened up Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, the only Atlantic Marine Reserve, to commercial fishing...idiot. this undermines all that we've been working towards for years. Look, it took decades for Little Cayman to be where it is today. Intense management & protections are saving The Little Caymens. Congrats to Carrie for persevering. I knew her dad, Eddie.
