Common Misconceptions with UX Design - The DeCypher Podcast | Episode 1

Robinhood is great in terms of user experience . but what if i say you can have the same (if not better) user gasless experience on Decentralised platform and have all your funds under your own control on blockchain? Yeah, it exists- it’s called Foxify!
This was such a thorough and well delivered video. Thanks so much, I'm feeling ready for my whiteboard challenge later today!
Hi, I'm self-conscious about how bad I sketch storyboards or even wireframes on the fly. Any tips?
Best video on the whiteboard challenge I’ve seen so far!❤
What's more important really depends on the company. Some prefer to hear a well-rounded process, others a polished ui that's already commercial grade (WYSIWYG)
Great video keep posting similar videos about the design thinking that was very helpful
Thanks so much!
Great job. Well done. Keep up the great work. Keep moving forward young sir.
can you help ,e with a mockup whiteboard challenge ?like we do it together
Thank you, Bold! I am just preparing for a phone interview tomorrow. This video is my guidebook!
how did it go?
What keeps life fascinating is the constant creativity of the soul. ;)
Very helpful!
Thanks man, very insightful video
This is awesome content. Great job and thank you!✌🏽
As both a UX designer and investor I felt hurt by Robinhood. I do understand how corrupt the financial markets are, however.
This was really useful!
Keep putting out content. you guys are really good
Ya’ll the best fellas ! This is the most cultural UX Podcast!
Y’all got the best one. Best down to earth podcasts on UX and you don’t seem scared to be men and as you guys were saying “being yourselves”. This is the Niche guys like me need who are just jumping into UX
Thanks Edward! Let us know if there's anything you want us to cover as well!
So happy this episode dropped! Such an important and often overlooked topic. Great job y'all!
Thanks Wicks!
I am wondering for white boarding sessions, it is important to come up with a user flow at the end (low-fi) or it can just be a couple main screens that don't need to be in a "flow."
Hi Chris, good question! While you may not need to draw out a flow chart in general, it's best to let the interviewer understand the user flow, even if that is just in words as you're drawing a few connected screens. Arguably, many apps can be a single view with dynamic widgets, but showing when and how those widgets sequence based on user action and intent will help show that you are thinking about the overall user experience and not just focusing on the UI.
Hi, could you recommend folks / companies with whom I can practice Design Whiteboarding.
Hi Mikhail, great question! We are working on some things on our side to offer services to practice this later in the year, but for the meantime, I would advise trying to grab a mentor on a site like www.adplist.org/ to help you!
Thank you! It was really helpful. I've just graduated and on my way to land the first UX job :)
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips, Cam! These are all spot on. The only thing I would add is that some companies are also looking for those big, innovative ideas and will knock you if you don't show that you think in that way! Another thing worth keeping in mind within the framework you've already shared.
Never heard of but really found the tip about taking a break to recap to be very insightful and a big one to takeaway. Looking forward to the next episode to see what tools you recommend for remote whiteboarding.
Thanks John! I actually learned that from someone I was interviewing. He did an awesome job pausing and recapping and it made a big impact! It made it much easier for me to understand his train of thought and removed a lot of the inferring and ambiguity, so even if he wasn't able to go as far, I understood his thinking and what he would do.
@@BoldUX That brings up another question, in the context of a timed interview of say < 1 hour. Would you be looking for someone who didn't get as deep/far but walked you through it perfectly where you are in complete alignment/understanding, or someone who was able to finish and build out the solution to completion on the board, but now leaves you with a bunch of questions that you need extra time to dig or follow up.
Great question! I'm normally looking for both someone who can break down the initial problem to something manageable and show some solution to the problem. I'd lean more on someone who has a solid approach to the solution but maybe didn't have time to fully sketch it out than some one who sketched out a solution but didn't break it down or explain it. That being said, if they didn't show any ability to execute, that's a major red flag as well. If there's 1 hour of time to whiteboard, the breakdown and approach to the problem as well as weighing potential solutions could be 65-75% of the time with the remaining pieces being executing on an idea. Typically, if they have broken the idea down, it's pretty simple to sketch a solution, so doesn't take much time. You normally see more junior designers start quickly and start uncovering issues as they sketch, which pushes them back toward weighing solutions and evaluating the problem and requirements.
It finally dropped!? Let’s gooooooo!!!!! Love this series... ❤️
Awesome video, Wicks! These tips are super helpful for those interviewing remotely.
Great video and excellent points, Wicks!
Another extremely helpful video!
love that you guys gave each experience criticisms as well despite them being your favorites. there's always room for improvement and i hope those companies hear this. they're basically getting FREE design feedback from experts in the industry 😂
Thanks Scott!
Very interesting video and great presentation, gentlemen.
Thanks for the kinds words!
😂😂😂 about the ja rule comment
🤣 That one was too much of a layup to not comment on
This is really great insight but what are your thoughts about culture fit?
Good question! Normally, I see culture fit from 2 different angles: how the candidate feels like they fit into the team or product and how the interviewer sees the candidate fitting into the company or team. As a candidate, I would advise you spend time interviewing the people on the team about the culture and product and try to gauge our personal interest in the product and team members. See how easy it is to talk to them, how open they are to ideas, etc. as you talk, especially during whiteboards or brainstorming type interview tasks. From the company side, I tend to want to lessen this idea as I think companies use bias in the interview process which leads to less diversity in thinking. If the candidate expresses clear interest in another space or disinterest in yours, it may be best to guide them to another team within your company or another role, because passion, excitement, and intrigue into an area or piece of the process will lead to better design and a more successful candidate when hired.
Love this and the info is easy to digest 🙌🏾
Glad it was helpful!
Great video!
Thanks for watching Manny!
