I think you've opened up a new way of thinking (for me). Recently, and I don't know why, but I had the Idea that I wanted to run a very long way - An 'Ultra' long way. I've run two half marathons and never a marathon! I have no desire to run a marathon, but an Ultra sounds fun and challenging. And Ultra sounds right up my street. I was going for a run tonight. Then at school pick up I decided I was too tired. Now I've watched your video I've decided not only am I going for a run tonight, but it's now officially part of my Ultra training.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS! I started running a year ago and had this problem almost every day. I would start feeling fine then have diarrhea and feel terrible after the run or mid run. I have been searching for someone with the same issues for over 10 months and you are the first I’ve found. Thanks for the information and your story. I am figuring it out as I continue my running journey.

Thank you for sharing your journey James, it will such a good watch and found myself celebrating with you when you crossed the line! I have chosen this one for my first next year too. Is there a 100m plan you recommend now you have plenty of experience? I have plenty of 50k and 50 mile plans but not chose a 100 yet.

Try at decathlon. I got a pair of shorts from Kiprun that was like $12, with a back pocket for my phone and an internal pocket for my keys. Nothing fancy, no space for gels or flasks and my phone barely fits in the back pocket, but it gets the job done.

Lovely effort, mate! Sub-10 hours is a strong showing. Can recommend the Fjällmaraton 100k, which takes place around Åre. It's another iconic trail ultra in Sweden, and part of a whole week's worth of races. Fantastic locales, and even more scenic views. Plus, it's not quite as crowded. That is, if you're scoping for 2025 adventures in the Nordics. There's a whole international crew that'll be going on this end. 😉

UA-cam recommended your video, it looked nice so I went to compare our splits. Turns out I was consistently (perhaps because I didn't start in the back) a couple of minutes in front of you but in the end you crossed the finish line only 17 seconds before me, I am the one in the shirt with the "Ed ir bar painut" (it is only gruesome, sort of, local minority language in some area of that part of Sweden) in front of you at 36:43. Good job!

In case someone is curious. The sign over the finish line says "I föders spår, för framtids segrar" ie "In the trail of our fathers, for future victories". It's a very famous sign. Unfortunately not the original one from 1923, it was lost in a fire.

*Small rant incoming: I've been running since 1978. I'm so old that I bought the original "Nike Waffle Stompers". Yes, the gear you wear needs to dissappear when running. I am a fan of finding a shoe that's an old design but comfortable. Then I buy 5 pairs. There's nothing more irritating than being forced to find and buy a new design shoe that works for you. Chafing: Fruit of the Loom spandex boxer briefs have eliminated that issue (for much less $ than brand name 1/2 length running tights). Marathons: Not sure why people need organized running. I run without music to have alone silent time, no running partner except for my Australian Cattle Dog (who's the fittest dog in my city). I can run a marathon distance any day of the year. Not sure why people need others watching them do it, or getting a medal??? If you run to impress others, getting a medal or accomplishing some bucket list item, you are running for the wrong reason. Run for yourself and how it makes you feel. Running should be your own selfish vice. *Stepping off very low soapbox now.

Great effort! I am running myself on local technical trails in Finland, and I really recognised what you said about them during the race. Hard on the body, but you can maintain a decent pace if you want to. I have fallen a few times though, and the goal is to aim away from rocks and find something green or flat. Especially when you get tired it is easy to get your shoe caught. It sometimes feels easier to go faster than slower on these trails, but it increases the risk of injury severity when you stumble.
