It is kind of hard to work for Total Wine when they care no more about their employees than Walmart or Goodwill does. So that means they don't care about their customers because the owners don't share the prosperity of the company with their employees, the sense of vision, creativity, mission. The desire to want to do well when employees are overworked, underpaid, undertrained, everythings unprofessional unsafe. Don't work for total wine they have high turn over rates! 😡

I met Doug years ago when Cidera was close to folding and we were there to see if we could pick up anything of value. We managed to get 1-2 good employees but nothing else. He was a very smart and very interesting guy, and we all new about Digex and that Doug had created something new and he had cashed in. He had started a little startup incubator with some of his cash and we got to tour that which was also interesting. At one point I was looking at the Cidera RF setup and I thought I saw an issue and raised it with him. I said "I bet this is the problem" and he immediately disagreed. I then offered money to up my bet and he said "don't bet a millionaire anything you can't afford to lose." It was pretty good advice, so I thought better of it and dropped it. Never got to find out who was right. Our satellite internet company was doing better than his, but it was clear he was ten times smarter than any of our executives - including me. That's when it dawned on me that companies generally don't fail for technology reasons. Our own company folded about ten years after Cidera, but I was gone by then - and with no Doug-sized payout to be had. In any case, thanks to Doug for a couple good lessons I learned from our brief encounter.
