BEST 2023 ALL MOUNTAIN SKIS FOR THE EAST (UPDATED REVIEW)
New England and east coast skiing has always been notoriously unpredictable. A typical day can consist of hard, iced groomers, heavy wet "powder", or tight glades. These conditions, while challenging, are what creates a unique and elite breed of skiers that hold spots on podiums around the world.
It can be difficult to recommend the best New England all mountain skis due to how much our style and preferences vary from each individual. For this reason we created categories of new best 2023 skis that will suite most skiers tackling New England terrain!

HOW TO WAX A SNOWBOARD (TIPS AND TRICKS)
hi, where does the stratus fit. I'm looking for something freeride Seeking off piste, carve, cruise, explore, not into insane velocity. lol maybe some trees. intermediate + 5.6 9.5 boot 153 lbs.
Stratos is less stable than the hovercraft and a little more serious than the Frontier. I think the stratos is mainly for big mountain guys who like going off of technical slopes and the occasional pow. Frontier is more casual, but in softer snow you can still lay it over. Kind of depends on what conditions you face often tbh
@@alastor1052 yeah icy crusty slushy so cal and occasional sierra cement. I am leaning to off piste exploring.
@@Frank020 stratos should be fine them
I know this review is a couple of years old, but if I have the chance to get either the 2024 Ripstick 94 Tour or the 96, which would be best for 70:30 ratio of inbound lift and inbound skinning groomers to the occasional ungroomed skinning on the east coast? Thanks!
Nice review.
Any chance you are looking to do an update with the 2025 version? 89 vs 94 vs 99 seems harder to call
Helpful in deciding between widths but would love to see a woman talking about women’s skis. Thanks.
I have both the ripstick 96 180 and the wingman cti 86 178. I’m 6,3” and 275 lbs. I prefer the wingman for the edge hold, carving and the rebound. That being said, most of my skiing is east coast hard pack which is what the wingman is designed for. I can’t say to much about the ripstick because I haven’t had it out enough yet. Today is 2-14-24 and if you would like to get a wingman cti, the 2022 model year is on sale at level9 for $338, it’s the same construction as the 2024. It’s a great ski. Thanks for this video, you guys did good.
Thanks a lot, very helpful for a beginner!
Great review, I’ve got the mountain twin and I love it, I’m looking at adding another board, I fancy something for going fast and maybe a bit more of a pow board. Would you suggest the flagship, aviator, hovercraft or frontier ? Cheers
I found this overview to be helpful in comparing the different models in the lines. It was brief, but I got a good sense of the type of skier each version would be good for. I liked the delivery and balance of a touch of playfulness along with more solid info. Nice job!
Well done Bradda .... killer review !!!! Love Jones boards
What are your thoughts on the Ultra Mount Twin?
Good description and review on the pros and cons of both models. For me I choose the 88 as its easier to carve and is suitable for more days with poor snow conditions. I use it both in the east and out west. If you do get a big storm you can always rent wider skis as they seem to have lots of Nordica Enforcer 100 and 104's for rent. The whole Nordica Enforcer range is popular year after year.
Thanks for the good review, as a beginning/intermediate skier, I really want to know which ski can help with learning and mastering carving easier?
Dude , dude. There is places that dont have skinshops. And if they do. Its a joke. So,
For the budget option, why Wingman 78 TI vs. 82 TI or 82 CTI?
Hey, which bore would you recommend to hit the jumps? Twin mountain?
Seems a bit wide for the East Coast. 75-90 with would be better options.
I would personally take the 94 if I just wanted one ski. However if I was after a two ski quivver, you would go the 88 and the 100 for some seperation. I ride the brahma and bonafide, and much like you said the wider ski just blast through crud better. Good to have two options, early morning and for later in the day!
Hey man, I've got the mind expander twin and the flagship, do you think the hovercraft will be a good addition to my quiver? Or is it now necessary? Does the flagship float and carve well enough?
I have both the 2023 Elan 96 RS Black in 172 and the Atomic Maverick 95tis in 180. I'm a solid intermediate (5'11" 190LBS) middle aged male doing 3 trips out West and 6 weekends up to Vermont. I'd like a better choice for the Vermont/NH hard pack/ice. I've been looking at the K2 Mindbender 89s, the Nordica Enforcer 88s, Volkl Mantra M6 and the Kendo 88s. Whatever I get will be strictly for the East Coast. Thoughts???
I think you mentioned a few great options that would perform well on firmer conditions we experience in New England. If you are a fan of the user friendly design of the RS 96, it would be worth looking into the Wingman series, specifically the 86 CTI. I found it to be a blast on refrozen groomers without being sluggish in variable conditions. Otherwise skis like the Kendo 88 and Brahma 88 from blizzard have been proven year after year on hard pack conditions.
@@winteriscalling3063 Thanks for the quick, informative reply. I'm going with the Kendo 88s because of all the great feedback I've received and the positive reviews. Love your content here on youtube!
winteriscalling.com/products/volkl-kendo-88-skis-2023?variant=41709636976805
What I want is a contrast between 100 and 104. I got to demo 100, loved it but can’t find anyone to let me demo the 104.
Nordica Enforcer 104 free ftw!
absolutely love my Bent 90s for bumps and trees! they're so reactive, light and fun.
Nice top, but please next time show flex on camera and compare skies for flex
I find it amazing that younger skiers think they have to have something 100mm under foot to ski powder. If you must have something that wide you really can't ski powder.
Can anyone explain the difference between the regular and "flat" versions of this ski? The Elan website doesn't address this anywhere I can see.
It means that it does not include a system binding
@@winteriscalling3063 - Thanks. But then, why are the prices the same for flat vs regular ??
I ski the East. Can’t beat the Salomon 84 stance for price and performance. All mountain all weather no problem.
What about a Atomic Maverick 88 ti. Was thinking about buying them but just looking for your opinion.
Can you make a female version of this please?!!??
Hovercraft since 2017. My powder board of choice and great carver too!
I'm curious, which one is suitable for an intermediate-level rider? I am just getting started carving
Frontier is the best
At our shop we put lots of customers on the Rustler 9, Volkl Kendo 88, Brahma 88, Enforcer 94 and Mantra M6. My personal favorite is the Deacon 84. For the customers that want to skin in the resort the Blaze 94 with Shift binding. My personal ski in that category is the new Blizzard Hustle 10. By the way Blizzard has a total redesign on the Rustler/ Sheeva series for 2024.
We definitely see a lot of our customers go out on those skis as well. The new rustlers are great! Definitely going to be a top pick for us next season
No Volkl Kendo??!!
My favorite mountain. I've climbed it over 30 times, once by snowmobile in 1973 or 74.
can a beginner use any of these boards? I love how they all look
I mean you can...will it be fun? Perhaps not... Most of these boards feature stiff camber, if you want to skid turns and take it easy they will probably catch an edge and try to kill you
why no terrain wrecker? I wanted to see that one!
I've been considering to get a new Ski for quite sometime. I read and watched a lot of ski reviews and I would say this video helped me a lot in decision-making. Thank you for the valuable insight! I'm now looking forward to seeing my new Elan Wildcat 82C.
I appreciate reviews like this as there are soooo many skis out there so thank you for that and the nod to new comer products is clutch. Do you have a video for reviewing women’s skis?
Haven’t ridden a Jones but love the graphics and the breakdown in this video.
Nothing says Eco-friendly like all the heli’s in Alaska and Canada… lets not tote around how your trying to help the environment but intoxicating it. Love the boards btw
Thank you so much this video really helped!
Awesome video, exactly what I needed!
Can you review women skis as well please?🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi! I am hesitating between Mountain Twin and Twin Sister. I am 175 cm tall guy, 70 kg and my boot size is 41,5 (26,5 cm). Do you recommend me the Twin Sister? I know it's for women. But i like better this graphics than Mountain Twin. And which size you recommend me? Thank you! Greetings from Hungary! :)
Awesome info. Thanks!!!
Here are my impressions as an upper intermediate skier: the 82 CTI is a good ski for icy groomers and for carving. The Elan Ripstick 96 feels more playful, turns on a dime, but is not as good on ice, and gets a little squirrely at high speeds.
Well, that's because you don't know how to ski.
@@georgeburns8447 Sarcasm isn't a good characteristic, as for skiing, you've neve seen him ski, so you can't judge, plus remember no matter how good a skier *you* are, there is some who can ski better then you.
@@Puzzoozoo Well, I'm confident I'm a much better skier than him AND you.
Agree, the Ripstick 96 does chatter at high speed.
I live in NY and just bought the Nordica Enforcer 94. Where do they fall in this list? I got them to replace a 2014/2015 Volkl Kendo which chatter too much and I find myself overpowering them on hard pack. That last straw was hitting Okemo last year on a VT trip and being absolutely miserable skiing groomers all day because there was no snow in the glades.
I would put the Enforcer 94 in with the Rustler 9 for all mountain one quiver ski. However it has two Titanal laminates and will feel more damp on firm conditions. I have both in my quiver.
Ski Jay In VT in April. You will be happy.
How would you say the Line Blade Optic 96 compares to these? Is that as still as the Nordica Enforcer, or not quite?
Great video, I've had my mountain twin for 5 years will never change it
Still roccin my 2018 twin
