RGS 5 (Galloping Goose) deadheads to Chama 22-Oct-2024
Переглядів 265Місяць тому
After working the 2024 fall color season on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad, RGS 5 returns to Chama. Once in Chama, it can be loaded onto a truck to return to its home in Dolores Colorado. This video details 12:30 minutes of its travel to the top of Cumbres Pass, starting from its entry into the Los Pinos valley. Sit on my tailgate with me, and watch this 1933 machine pass by me.

I am calling this video " Watching a train from my tailgate, number 18". I like watching trains for a longer than a 20 second video. This one shows a train in the Los Pinos area. It takes on water at Los Pinos. It is 22:30 minutes long. There is some radio audio at the beginning and a bit more after taking on water. Other than that, not much more audio. I used a separate audio recorder, and use...

The camera facing the commissioners is a tad off in timing. After spending many hours to edit this, I decided their lips are so small in the video that I am not going to re-do the entire edit. Look at the flag if it bothers your eyes. The close up's are fine. Thank you for understanding. My links of interest are: train.sbseiber.com which is my website. August 11, 2021 Extra 487 and 216 east at Los Pinos
Great job, Sam! I like this venue. I'm surprised that nothing was said about repairing 487, the status of 315, or the possibility of Fireman/Engineer School next season.
The real downside of the venue was: voices didn't really travel. I provide wireless headphones for folks that need hearing assistance. I was surprised that when standing behind the last row of chairs, the commissioners were tough to hear. So, there is no reason to attend if you DON'T have a comment/question. My video works.
Sounds like the 493 has a NYC 6 Chime on it. I might be wrong
Nice work, Sam!
Great weather, made for some super videos. Nice work by all.
Very nice, like !
Thanks for the video Sam. I especially liked the water fill sequence at Los Pinos.
I like the video. I wonder if they had the choice between an oil burner or a coal burner.
489 was the only in-service K-36 in Chama this day. So, no choice.
Looks like Tanglefoot curve to me.
Was this taken at Tanglefoot Curve? Nice video!
Sorry about the slow reply, I was on the Goose for the October 1-4 trips. Yes, that is Tanglefoot. Nice thing about that runby spot is we don't need to back up the goose. Just drop off the riders on top, let them pick their photo spot, then they can meet the Goose at the bottom of the loop. This year, due to the bus schedule, the Chama to Antonito trips had some really tight timing. Our first 8 days (one remains on 10/16) have had great trees and weather.
LOVE traveling on that rail bus!
Thanks, Sam!
Thank you, Sam, for putting this together.
Very nice!
Thank you, Sam!
Ahh, I am running a test this time. After posting this video, I put a link to it in the report. I also updated my website. I am seeing how many people figure it out. I would imagine subscribers have the best chance if they have notifications on. Thank you for your post.
@@CTSFanSam I subscribe, but also find the link on the ngdiscussion forum to be timely.
That is the first Work Extra that I’ve ever seen without any MOW cars, and comprised of varnish only. Nice video.
I love this train.Ive done ranch work on Mt Ozier.Drive back to Antonito for food and beer😅The road back to this train stop goes into NM and then back into Colorado.nice drive and good food at the restaurant!!
Thank you for putting this together, Sam! Great job!
Working on a plan to better sync my video and audio in the next meeting. Click ...more above for a chapter list so you can get right to what you want to see.
Very interesting. Thanks Sam!
Thanks Sam for the report and the video, and thanks to Steve for editing.Greg Scholl
Starting this year, I have been doing the editing.
Thank you, Sam for putting this together. I also think the commission, and everyone else on the railroad is doing a great job!
Thanks for doing this, Sam. Welcome aboard, Stephen!
Thanks to Steve and Sam for putting this together. I appreciate all the work the railroad and volunteers have done to make this a successful year in spite of labor problems and engines being out of service. Thomas Scalf
That trian is so COOL!!
I love these wide shots. It's a different perspective of the close ups.
That is so cool! That is like a trip back to the late 1800's. I love the long shot. I can almost imagine watching that train go by while sitting on a horse or something. Amazing!!!!
I love the T-12!
Good riddance. I’m sure they’ll promote some under-qualified local to continue to run the place into the ground and the “well” mentored management team will all pat themselves on the back as they continue the spiral downwards. Under Scott’s leadership the railroad lost its ability to handle anything mechanically complex without the assistance of outside contractors who make handsome amounts of money off of the tax payer funded railroad. I hope the NM Governor is looking into the railroad more. Maybe she’ll find the rest of the conflict of interests hiding in northern NM.
This is my second effort at an in person meeting. If this video is of value to you, please, just a thumbs up. It will determine how much more effort I will apply. Thanks for watching.
good job sam and steve
Thank you Sam, for doing this.
Как игрушечный.
the little engine that could 1991 irl
from the RR museum in Golden Colorado, #20 on tracks for the first time in many years.
463 has been owned by the D&RG, then Gene Autry, then C&TS property (or town of Antonito). I don't think it has ever been at the RR museum. Are you thinking of engine 346? The RR museum does have an engine 346 that runs.
@@CTSFanSam Yes, that’s it 346, thanks 🙏
Love the distant shots and the sound of the engine! Very nice!
how old is the Engine
Built in 1883. I don't remember the 'restored to' date, but I think about 1920s. It had a boiler change early in its life to stay current on boiler laws.
What a neat and unique spot to film the C&TS
Love the "Hooters", . . . .
I must admit I'm not a fan of their radio protocols. I work for a big railroad company and their radio protocols are bizarre to me. I'm used to hearing, "that'll do" or "stop" to stop the train, and "going in between cars" or "making air" to get in between cars. I also didn't hear 1/2 car, 20 ft, 10 ft to indicate how close the car's are. I guess I'm just spoiled, but red zone sounds kinda dumb imho and not very railroad like. Of course it would be better if they used hand signals to be way more authentic to operations during the period they're trying to preserve.
Red zone is more what UP uses. Going in in between is what the BNSF uses
@@hoghead4846 the DNS also uses going in between.
Nice shots from distance with zoom. Great video!
315 And 463
Thanks for posting this, really bummed i had to miss this, but the Covid-19 thing made it impossible.
Nicely done, indeed. I'm just learning the C&TS, having first visited this past June. So looking forward to my next visit.
Holy shikes, look them big ole choo trains!
AWESOME!
Sam, great video. You were here there and everywhere. Very nicely done.
Great video! I would love to retrace your spots.
Wonderful! In checking Google maps, I can't find a way to get from Big Horn to Whiplash without going all the way around the world via Antonito. I see roads, but the guide won't let me go that way. Is is accessible with a 4wd, such as a RAV4, which is what I rented in June.
No wonder they went out of business. This train is 70 years late.
Nice.
Nice video Sam. Great vantage point.
