I used this paint in two different colors. The white I used was amazing, primed and two coats. Looks good. The other color was a dark blue color same thing, I primed and did 2 coats. I let it cure for about 2 days and I am getting a chalky texture to the paint. It looks good until I touch it and I can see my finger prints in a chalky way not that the paint isn’t dry. Its dry. And paint is coming off when I wipe it with my hand. Any advice about the chalkiness?

Yeah, I hate valspar

I’d be trying the valspar again, having to wait for coupons, recoat time and driving to an ace hardware seem like major drawbacks.

Why is there no DIY paint review? It is truly a chalk paint, not a acrylic paint like most of the ones you tryed.

Yikes - just started watching this... First mistake - not following with a dry white foam roller after brushing the paint on. Second - furniture and cabinet paint is self leveling - but you MUST dry roll it immediately after brushing on - and paint in SECTIONS (don't try to paint the whole thing at once).. do a side... brush.. roll. Do another side.. brush.. roll. Brush on ONE thin coat.. roll. Do a second THIN coat.. brush/roll. Every time I use this product I have a flawless finish.

You should have tried the Wooster Micro-Finish. Leaves no hairs and is ultra-spray-like smooth. I don't even pre wash them. Just load them up and use on doors and cabinets with great results.

Can you use these paints over already repainted cabinets in semi gloss? Do you need to sand or prime with these paints?

Have you tried heirloom traditions all in one paint to see how it compared?

Thanks for the video. I actually paint cabinets for a living, and looking to test other paint brands/lines then what I'm using right now. I tried advanced and I've tried cabinet coat, only spraying, and I personally had a lot easier time and found the finish to be a lot nicer and more durable on the cabinet coat rather than advance. I also really like Emerald, but I find it stays soft for far too long as well as its price is prohibitively expensive even as a contractor

The HGTV Sherwin Williams Cabinet & Furniture paint is similar to the Emerald one. Lowe's has it. Fantastic stuff

mixing vinegar with salt creates hydrochloric acid. use with caution. but it cleans fast and then polish for a great brass shine.

I agree with your assessment of Emerald, but I have switched to spraying SW Gallery. An incredible product if you have access to spray equipment. Dries to sand with 320 in 45 min (@77degrees). If I brush I'll do Emerald....but spraying Gallery is wonderful!

This is the best comparative study I have ever seen! Thank you for your "Herculean" efforts on our behalf. Perhaps you could consider a test of S-W's product Gallery? Addendum: I got 3 gallons of the Behr product free because of a color mismatch and wanted to use it, at least as the first coat or two. I found that adding 15% to 20% of Floetrol made a great improvement in the spraying and finish.

How not to paint your fridge, basically. If you do this DIY do it with proper tools, spray cans are not the way to go im afraid.

Great video! Looks like you used an HVLP sprayer. I have used both the BM and SW paints for trim, love them both! Curious how they worked in the sprayer. How much did you have to thin those paints to work in the sprayer? Thank you!

Good stuff, thanks for taking the time to do this. One suggestion: no tack cloth if you are using waterborne finishes. The residue they leave behind is only compatible with oil-based finishes. For the modern waterbornes, vac and wipe with (moist) microfiber. I only learned this recently myself.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I started out a few years ago with BM Advance and a $9 Harbor Freight gun that I drilled out so it would spray latex. I've been through so many of these different paints. Think about stepping up to a pigmented poly (1K/2K). I tried Envirolak recently. What a difference. Factory like finish and near bulletproof, even as a 1K. I have also heard great things about ICRO and Renner. Only problem is that these products are near impossible to get. I really like the convenience of being able to buy local. Still, after seeing the results, I will deal with having to order. Also, an airless sprayer with fine finish tips is the answer for the modern waterborne coatings. That single stage Wagner HVLP unit really struggles with waterborne stuff.
