'Hester' gets a new look
The front of Hester (our caravan) needed a new look. It had the caravan company logo/branding on it (they don't pay me to advertise so why should they have their branding on my caravan?) - being an ex-signwriter I am able to re-brand Hester and give her a new look.

Modifying the Sofa Back Support in our Caravan
Переглядів 585 місяців тому
The back support of our caravan sofa is comfy, BUT, they are so deep they push you forward which means you get very little 'seat space', so the back might be comfy but the seating isn't. We decide to change the back support, making it narrow to provide more seat space.
Personalising our Caravan - Adding our personal touches.

We change the colours of our rims from boring black to our favourite Sky Blue (for Manchester City FC of course). AND, we make our own mud flaps and get rid of the 'caravan company branded' ones (they don't pay me to advertise so why should we have their name on our property?).

    I actually installed the same camera set up last week. I used metal conduit clamps. I secured them with galvanized tech screws. Its neat, secure and looks professionally done. I also secured the camera to the rear wall of my caravan and ran the cable within the wall cavity. All caravans have a hollow space running along the top corner. You can then come through internally wherever a cupboard is and work your way to the undercarriage. Unfortunately my puppy ate the cable yesterday, so I have to do it all again.

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun 6 днів тому

      I accept they are more expensive than the basic (and when I say basic I mean in price and quality) of the generic stuff on the market. In the time I’ve owned these I’ve had zero faults, prior I had 3 ‘basic’ ones fail. In the time I’ve owned these I know my caravaning friends have had many failures (all the ‘basic’ type). Based on my experience the price of these totally outweigh the risk you run by adopting the ‘basic’ systems that appear to often fail. You get what you pay for and I’ve paid for quality and reliability, which is a winner for me. Thanks for your reply by the way.

    Awesome set up mate. We have an NX but may need a gvm upgrade with the heavier caravan with an atm of around 2.5t. How have you gone with towing and weight limits? Did the new suspension increase the tow ball rating? Thanks

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun Місяць тому

      Hi @dayrcrayr , thanks for your feedback, appreciated 👍. You are heading down the same path as us , the NX is a great truck, my fav 4WD wagon, but, the ‘weights’ made it difficult for us to continue with the NX. We have a 2100kg caravan and it left us with no ‘spare weight’. So the NX was replaced with BT-50 with Lovells GVM-GCM (I have a walkthrough video coming up on our BT-50 build). The suspension upgrade and air bags on the NX gave me nothing ‘official’ other than peace of mind it was capable. Good luck with your build- we loved the NX . Peace ‘The Seagull’

      Hey how are you, thanks for watching. The 40x40x is 740mm long (I think I originally bought a 1mtr length and trimmed it to get it over the top of the tyre). It’s aluminium to save weight. I’ve since had to change the camera, because it’s install as it is it was very easy to swap in the new camera. Peace and enjoy.

    Are the Rhino-Rack bolts that you used the same size as the bolts they sent with the awning? Or where they smaller?

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun 5 місяців тому

      hey mate, thanks for the question. I'm not sure if the Rhino-Rack bolts were the same as the Bush Company ones (it was a while ago now and the awning is now on my BT-50 Fleet Trade rack). I had to watch the video and at about 4m30s mark you can see the bolts are tightened and are slightly popping up above the nuts, so, I'd say they were close to the same (I'm assuming your question relates to bolt length). Nut/bolt selection is probably dictated by what you are attaching it to, my Rhino-Rack used the slot bolts whereas my current Fleet-Trade rack I had to buy new nut/bolts. Not the best answer, sorry, but I hope it helps. peace, and thank you for watching.

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun 7 місяців тому

      umm, that's a tough one, we didn't have that problem. The wheel lift was primarily to lift the spare over the drawbar of our camper trailer (bottom of spare wheel hit the handbrake and we could open the door fully). When we lifted the spare wheel we only had to remove the top part of the wheel cover, and to trim a small amount of plastic trim, as shown in the vid. We hope you find a solution to your challenge, and if you do put it on UA-cam because we bet other Paj owners have the same challenge you have :-) Peace and thanks for the comment.

      Hi, Thanks for the question and we are real happy to provide feedback. Our set up was as follows:- A 40mm lift kit plus heavy duty air bags. This consists of front and rear Bilstein shocks. Front and rear Terrain Tamer springs to suit bullbar & winch on the front. And a 300kg spring rate for the rear. Heavy duty Firestone airags and a wheel alignment. Yokohama AT tyres The car did plenty of 4WD in Vic High Country without any issues, plus a 4wk trip through Flinders Ranges (on and off road towing an off-road caravan) and through all of this we had zero issues at all, the whole thing worked perfectly, not a single hiccup, so, I’d say that was evidence enough the choice was a good one. I hope this helps, and we wish you many truely amazing adventures. Peace ✌️

      Sorry but I believe you are wrong. Constantly towing an off road caravan with larger tow hitch means no access to the boot as the tyre hits hitch and cannot open fully, spending a SMALL amount of cash now allows us to fully open the boot even with caravan attached. In my mind, and probably in the minds of many others in the same predicament, it is money and time well spent. Thank you for watching and commenting. Peace

      Hey John, the two new batteries were connected in parallel , maintaining 12v providing 240Ah (120 each), then we used the caravans existing red/black cables from the Projector PM300 and connected to the +/- of one of the new lithium. Hope this helps.

      Hey, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I have sold the car so cannot get a measurement for you, however, i know it was full length of Pajero NX roof (possibly 2.1mtrs!). Noise: I had no wind or creaking noise issues at all. I installed it myself (a tricky job as entire roof lining has to come out and there are airbags up there - I suggest you get it installed by others to save you the headache)

We cannot say these are the best neoprene seat covers out there because we haven’t used any other brand, but we can say they are bloody great quality, fit really well, wash perfectly and come out like new, and ,Supertrim are a good business to deal with, so our opinion is that they are a fantastic product and haven’t let us down . We also had a set in our previous Pajero and they were spot on.

      Hello, Would that be the new version of the scan gauge? I used Ultra Gauge because at the time it was used by MM4x4 to demonstrate the ‘goodness’ of the torque converter, so I bought the torque converter and gauge at the same time as there was a track record of their compatibility. How’s move on and improve, which is great for your 4WD hobby. Peace ✌️

      Enjoy your fit-out of the Paj. I installed about 80% of all my mods, that way I knew how it all 'worked', so if there were any issues down the line I could resolve them. Unfortunately, we have had to sell our Paj as we are moving to a larger caravan and needed more tow capacity which the Paj couldn't provide - sad - it was a very very very well appointed car and I'd spent a LOT of money on it.

    Hi - just found your channel - as an NX owner love your car content - thanks! When you installed the awning and lowered the height of the T plate, did you know that it would clear the tailgate and be tall enough for you underneath or was that luck? I think i might get one - cheers.

    Great video. How do you go with your gvm with towing?

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun Рік тому

      Good question, and one I can give you a very accurate number as I have just had our entire rig professional weighed with "WeighStation". I will admit I totally loaded the Paj with everything possible to travel (tents/kayaks/maxxtracks/water/fuel ... ect) and the GVM was close at 2939kg (3030kg on compliance plate). The only concern was tow ball mass at 260kg (Paj max is 250kg), this was easily addressed by moving weight off drawbar. Caravan only weighs in at 1880kg, so we are under GCM of 6030kg.

    • @adamherbert6728
      @adamherbert6728 Рік тому

      @@seagullsontherun are those figures including tow ball weight? Tow ball is included I gvm. I recently purchased a 2600kg caravan and with van attached and family on board I was at 3.1t. I am over in my gvm and trying to work out a solution. My nw pajero has steel bar, dual battery winch etc. Don't want to sell but want to keep it legal.

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun Рік тому

      Now getting technical, and this is where the weakness of the Paj is exposed. So, GVM of car = 2939 (everything on it) , + TBM of 261 = 3200 (GVM combined) - so we are over the compliance plate 3030kg by 170kg when we hitch up the caravan. We had to strip back everything to get the car lighter (so no kayaks/bikes etc), and get the back of the caravan heavier to reduce TBM - it's an annoying balancing act - what is interesting is the GCM max on a Paj is 6030 and we did not exceed that with caravan and gear on (we are 5079). The problem with the Paj is that piss poor 250 max on tow ball, if it was the 10% rule and goes to 303kg we'd be laughing. messy reply but i hope it helps you ... this is why we are selling and going to a UTE.
