Hey everybody! Thank you so much for watching, there are a few things I forgot to talk about in the video that I will address here: When talking about wiring, we are only referring to 12VDC connecting to a Motor Guide XI3 with about an 8ft distance between the motor and battery. Our setup is what works for that specific circumstance. That is in no way a universal rule for all motors, voltages, ...

    How many camera and mounts you usually use? The reason I ask is because I have 2 new action cameras and I want to put them to use this year. I know there is a really nice yak attack for the side or back angles but dam, it's pricey 😬

    • @UntamedOutdoorsmen
      @UntamedOutdoorsmen 3 дні тому

      @akamikegansta we usually only have 1 camera per kayak. Pete has one and I have one. My recommendation is to start small. Start with a head mount or chest mount, if you like doing it and stick with it long term, then start investing in better gear and editing software. I see way too many people get all jazzed up for making videos, spend all the money on fancy stuff, then quit 2 weeks later. I do use that yakattack boom arm with power connected to my kayak battery, it’s pricey, but in my case I make that money back from the videos we make with it. So it’s more worth it in our case. You don’t need fancy stuff to make good videos. We’re thinking of making a video going over all our camera stuff and how we make videos. Hope that helps.

    Very nice review, good job!!! Funny thing is, I've been fishing for over 50 years and have NEVER used one. Have broken a couple of guides throughout the years, I won't lie. I've always been extremely cautious and caring of my gear. That's why I'm still using gear from the 80's and 90's, back when it was built to last the test of time!!! Neoprene rod sleeves are good, but I hate how they slide on the rods. They fold over and you have to feed them on. Also, if you use a rod mule the Neoprene sleeves do not work as well when you slide the cover over because the Neoprene is thicker and not as "slick" as the old style.

    Why didn't you take advantage of the 3 year warranty?????

    • @UntamedOutdoorsmen
      @UntamedOutdoorsmen 8 днів тому

      @@jasonkable1462 multiple reasons. 1st, I was in the market for a new kayak already. Was in the process of searching for an upgrade, and this kayak breaking was the final thing that made me get a new one. Couldn’t be happier with that decision 1 year later. 2nd, the boat would have had to be re-registered, I would have had to go through that same process again, bring over all of my accessories from the old one to the new one. Which is a good amount of work, and after all that I am hoping that the same issue doesn’t happen again on the new one. Cracking is a very common issue on this kayak. 3rd, didn’t have the energy to go through the warranty process on a boat I was looking to upgrade from anyway. Once I got my new kayak (Native Titan X 12.5) I decided to give Ascend a call because maybe I can gift it to a friend or family member, it was a hassle. Ascend wanted me to go through bass pro and bass pro said the opposite. At the end of the day, going through the process of getting a new one wasn’t worth it to me, especially when I was looking to upgrade to a long term solution. With the type of tournament fishing weve started to do, I saw the flaws and “grew out” of this ascend relatively quickly. Ascend is a good entry level brand, but their kayaks aren’t made with long term use in mind. Enjoyed it while I had it though.

    • @jasonkable1462
      @jasonkable1462 8 днів тому

      @@UntamedOutdoorsmen It's breaking my heart you are saying they pointed fingers at each other. I've heard similar stories and this kayak is the only one I see in my price range that will support a big guy like me. The cracking was something I was willing to put up with since there was a warranty involved. UGH!!!! Well good luck!

      It went pretty good. We used it for another 3 seasons after this video came out. At the end of this last season, I actually broke it in kind of an abnormal circumstance. Not the fault of the rod, I lifted the rod out from the passenger seat of my truck and when it was pressing up on the headliner it snapped at the tip. Probably developed some micro fractures in the top of the blank and that was the final blow. Could happen with any rod especially after all the use we put it through. Normally the warranty would cover it but since I bought the rod second hand that isn't an option, who knows how many years of use the first owner had on it too. But I do plan on eventually getting it professionally repaired out of pocket at some point because it is definitely the best rod I have ever owned.

    Nice review you gave. Good advice for the "Casual" 'Yak Fisher-People out there, about the pedal drive! After letting some Friends fish in my Titans, they wouldn't have it any other way, though! They get to where they're going with the Newport motors, and use the pedal drive to fish. Once hooked-up with a Bass, they can back-pedal to pull it out to open water to fight and land. (They all own at least one or 2 'Yaks from different makers, but can't afford a Titan right now!). I've done a lot of "Mods" on my 12.6 "X" model, as you have, too. Thanks for all the great ideas.

      @@MSmith-jf5wo thanks for watching. In that situation, the pedal drive can be extremely useful. That’s what I try to use mine for. That topic in the video was more for when people put their pedal drives in the attic and never take them out of the attic until it’s time to sell the kayak. There are PLENTY of people who use and love their pedal drives. But I think it’s a convo that needs to happen more especially when someone is considering purchasing. Thanks!

      @@doughodson5939 handled it directly through native. I think you’ve already asked me that on Facebook haha but yeah it was easy no issues

      I might have. Sorry don't remember. Curious because if I ever have issues my dealer is 2.5 hrs away.

      No worries. Yeah it wasn’t an issue. Try through your dealer first then go through native. Some dealers are better than others with that, for me, i was already talking to native so didn’t make sense to bounce between the two.

    Stainless steel hemos are my favorite to use the regular pliers to big and lunkie. I do not use braided line I tried it in the early 90's and never again. Monofilament line has not let me down like braided line don't Ker about how strong it is not worth the money. Only go neoprene cover's reel or rodß Nice job on the video guys.

    My net saved me from having to flip my kayak after getting stuck on a branch. Unfortunately half of it it still there.

    Hey I know I’m late to the party but do you still have the same yak? Do you like it? Looking at getting one used, I’m a bigger guy is it pretty easy to stand up in?

    • @UntamedOutdoorsmen
      @UntamedOutdoorsmen 26 днів тому

      @scottumberger9404 we do still have it. However we are planning on selling it. It was a good yak we do like it however with kayaks going more motor focused that’s the direction Pete is looking to go as well and with this Kayak we just can’t do that. Yeah it’s pretty easy to stand up. The quality is top notch for sure.

    I really like the Kaden casting rod I have. I prefer fore grips on my spinning rod. I use a ML Zodias for finesse fishing.

      @@granvillej3316 we don’t typically go out once the nights get well below freezing. Especially on kayaks it’s a rough time. In our area it really doesn’t get cold enough anymore to safely ice fish so we don’t really do it. Usually from now until the start of next season we make videos in the garage on whatever people want us to make videos on and some ideas of our own.

    Pickerel Palooza, that's great. A day named in honor of those TOOTHY CRITTERS!!! Long Pond does have its share of big bass in there though. Yes, trying to time it around the boat traffic can be challenging.
