The "sun" is a hole to the magic dimension Aetherius made by Magnus when he bailed during the creation of Nirn. The bow closes that hole.

Correction : sun bursts or sun rays will hit literally anyone, so its like using the thunderstorm shout but the weather is all good and the thunder are just sun rays

But yeah it does make the sun a bit brighter

effect is only for 24 in-game hours (cca 1,4 hours in our time). Because fast travel consumes in-game time, you can cancel that effect by fast traveling to distant location, and obviously also by sleeping or waiting for 24 in-game hours.

It nice to sometimes to do that if u getting bored and wanna fight some vampires and gargoyles in ur way when u roaming.

What would have been interesting is that we could side harkon at the end of the quest and it kill serana but it turn the sky like that forever plus auriel bow become corrupted they could have make a lot of ending for a big dlc like that

@@cranexes1254 an ending like that would certainly clashed with a lot of stories in skyrim just think if a player did not completed alduin quest and u make the sun red😶 and side with vampires. It would not make sense that greybeards discussing to stop the war for dragons but not vampire curse and tbh doing that would lead u to become a major villian so basically many npcs u were friends with are gonna be hostile are atleast scared of u. Basically they would have to rewrite almost whole game for this it doesn't sound good when u have to make the game bro😶

@@wherethetreegrows In Skyrim, one of the DLC questlines follow this magic bow. Vampires want to use it to block out the sun so they can roam free. You eventually defeat harkon, a big bad vampire who wants to use the bow, and in the end you have the option to block the sun yourself or just use it as any other weapon. You use a bit of that companion’s blood (a vampire named serana) on some elven arrows and shoot the arrow with the bow at the sun. Once you do that, the world goes dark and everyone panics.

In the second or third quest in the Dawnguard storyline, after clearing out a dungeon on behalf of vampire hunters and delivering serana (who is also harkon’s daughter) to harkon’s castle, he gives you the option to join his clan and become a vampire. If you say yes, he makes you a vampire and you fight the vampire hunters while in pursuit of the bow. The bow is an ancient weapon wielded by a god named Auriel (or Akatosh to most people) who is represented through the sun. A prophecy was created that states “vampires will no longer fear the sun.” Dipping arrows in vampiric blood (i.e. serana) will cause the bow to function differently, allowing the blocking of the sun. You do still have to kill harkon, as either way he was likely to be rid of you and his daughter when the has the bow. You’ll become the leader of his vampire clan, and you’ll still have the option to fulfill the prophecy or not. I think otherwise it’s just a neat detail the devs put in. If I remember when I did it, vampire characters across the game (such as Alva in the town of Morthal) will have dialogue that celebrates the event, and there was even a vampire attacking guards in one town.

My theory is that it doesn’t actually reach the sun…it just reaches a point in the sky where the “magic” explodes and creates a sort of sun shield around Skyrim. That’s why it’s temporary and you have to fire another one every time you fast travel, since the sun changes positions

@@rabunscott94 its auriels bow - so its accelerates exponentially trying to hit the sun. makes more sense lore wise
