Thanks 🔥 Appreciate your support.
please tell me where you got your headlamps for the fencing veil. ive been searching for ages. thanks!
Bought a bunch of these lamps on Takealot www.takealot.com/rechargeable-led-headlamp-6-modes-with-3400mah-cell/PLID90523340 Then you need to get Velcro - www.takealot.com/double-sided-hook-and-loop-tape-5m-black/PLID73721930 Sew the velcro onto your veil and stick it onto the lamp, works like a charm. Thanks for watching and asking, hope these help you out?
@@BeeSanctuary Legend thanks!
@@MILCHoney Happy to help, where are you based and are you working Scutellata or Capensis?
@@BeeSanctuary Im from jhb but moved to plett a year ago. got capensis this side but i tell you the amount of scutella im seeing down here is scary, guys moving bees down south all the time
That's interesting, the Capensis should sort them out as they are generally a social parasite and take over the Scutellata hives, causing their collapse.
Why can’t you remove bees in the rain?
There are a few reasons. 1. The bees may drown because we exposed the nest. 2. The vacuum we use can cause condensation inside, killing the bees. 3. The vacuum is running on electricity which doesn't mix well with water. For these reasons, we don't work in the rain. Thanks for watching and asking your question.
NICE QUEEN CATCH
Thanks for watching.
Those Bees are Gettin PISSED WOW And you Guys are Being super Calm ,,,, Id hate to See this with a Dumbass Doing it Interesting Milk Jug Catcher
A swarm of bees goes to school. Now that would be amazing if every school had a colony. Just think of all the various subjects that could use the study and observation of bees to learn from. Spelling bee, social studies, motivation, mathematics, sports, biology, science, chemistry, animal husbandry, woodwork. One day perhaps.. In a world without fear. Thank you for your insight. I have 2 observations. It's always worthwhile clearing the area where the queen was found as the pheramone trail is a strong draw which seems to take a long time for the bee's to Re- orientate. Waiting overnight is otherwise the best option. I liked that you chose to wait. That great scoop has a bottle neck, would it be an option to use it and knock the funnel down between the frames with more aim to avoid so many bees taking flight again.
Great recommendations @markd5459, I have observed what you have described when placing the empty queen clip at the ready and the bees can sense the pheromone of a previous queen. Thanks for watching.
This is fascinating 😮
Thanks for watching
Cheers bru 😁
Thanks for watching
Please tell us more about capensis and their effect in the highveld.
Will see if there is interest and plan this video.
Incredible! People don’t know how much work goes into beekeeping.
Thanks for watching
Interesting after you scooped the queen you could see it on the behavior of the bees they started running around
I observed that too. It was also interesting to see how they behaved around the location of the queen before she was scooped up.
Well done guys Something that works nice in a removal like that is a soft sugar syrup spray om the bees Nice to do a removal like that for a change
They were amazing to work with, beautiful and relaxing. Thanks for watching.
Varroa is a problem for this kind of bees?
The African Honeybee does not struggle with varroa, we are fortunate with this. In fact we have very few pests. I have one site that is being attached by Bee Pirates - like a wasp, will have a video on that soon.
@@BeeSanctuary una grande fortuna! Le api qui in italia, la ligustica, sono molto delicate, siamo "schiavi" dei trattamenti.

Here is something I learned fron58 years wiith the bees! When I sold my bees to move as I retired, I burned some old frames and boxes. I found some aluminum based fooundation from 1964, thet I had been using for46 years in my apairies. The people that sell foundations want you to believe you should be able to read a newspaper through your oldest comb! They also say that old cells will affect the size of the worker bees! BALDERDASH AND PREPOSTERUS! I a worker emerges from an undersize cell they grow a little more the next ten days of their life! They are never dwarfed! Good developed combs are like gold! Protect them! If a colonny is not developing right combine it or shake it out and start over! Good luck with your bees!
Always great to get good advice from an old beekeeper. I find that my queen gives a better brood pattern in the newer comb. My analysis is if the cell has been well used when she does her measurement and it is too small, she skips it and moves to the next. This results in a patchy brood pattern on the old comb. Thanks for watching.
Tried it and it worked very well. Thank you so mich for all your advice
That’s great to hear, glad you had success with it! If you made any small adjustments please share, I find depending on the situation I sometimes have to deviate from this plan.
I have learned a very useful (rule of thumb) here in Bavaria. Hold up a frame to the sun and put one hand behind it. If you cannot see your hand through the frame it needs replacing.
Great tip. Thanks 🙏.
I have two cement hives trying them out. This winter western cape was wet and my bees left as water goes through lid or it was condensation. Opened up to moldy frames . So this year i will paint them and put steel lid on them. The bees do like them , badger proof , fire proof but very heavy and you cant manipulate bees.
Interesting that the water was able to permeate into the hive. I have not experienced this yet, but I have also not had the quantity of rain you experienced in the Cape this year.
Think it's a nice to have but not practical
I agree. Something I didn't mention in the video is at least with the wooden Langstroth, there is an abundance of spares, and everything is the same size. I have seen with these Bunka Hives that if you need a new lid or a super, they can be difficult to acquire at certain times.
You not doing to bad for a old topple caring the super with the lid
Thanks Hannes, that lid and Super are about 30 kg empty. It is just impractical to do hive maintenance on many hives.
Sacking, cut to size will make a good inner cover in this case.
Yeah Mark, They recommended something of that sort on their site. Gonna have to make a plan. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant! Thank-you for this review.
Thank you for watching.
What is the taim this trap out fainly sir
We struggled to restrict the bees to just one exit and so this took us a while, but once you have them only using the exit with the cone you must leave it for 28 days. Thanks for watching.
O did you see a queen?
No we did not spot spot her.
Hi Stuart Can I ask few questions When was this removal done Reason I ask is yes queens do stop laying sometimes but colonys that size there should be some brood Did you see any queen cells maybe they replaced her or she swarmed an the new queen did not make it back from her mating flight But keep us posted I would give them a frame of all stages of brood from a nother colony just for in case If there is no queen they can replace her Nice video and explanation
Hi Hannes. This was just before winter, so I suspect it was a seasonal slowdown, but that was an assumption. We did not see the queen so it is possible she was no longer around as well. The frame of all stages of brood works well, I have used this in the past too, great recommendation. Thanks for watching.
I´m fascinated how easy it can be. In Germany we have one million other frame sizes. I hope the hive beetles will only come to us in 30 years...many greetings from Germany ;)
In South Africa all the beekeepers seem to stick to the standards when it comes to hives. Hive beetles while very present tend not to be too much of a bother, the bees tend to take care of them. Thanks for watching.
Fascinating journey - such a complex 'world' on its own. Thank you for sharing the information.
Glad you enjoyed, you in particular know which hive this is. Thanks for watching.
Oh how I've missed these videos! Going to binge catch up.
Hey Tash. Welcome back to the channel!
Bee hives nearby seem to 'advertise' for new members bringing gifts of honey by dispersion of there pheramone at the entrance.
Yeah, that was my thoughts too. This would mean the swarm that landed to a certain extent, depending on the gifts they are bearing, will be accepted into the established hive.
Morning Sunshine on the entrances and higher boxes are the best lure. 👍🏻👍🏻Well done.
Thanks Mark, those are two tips I am going to use in a swarm lure experiment we are setting up. Thanks for watching.
Were are you from in SA?

Funny old thing, I have one moving in this AM in the KZN Midlands, snow on the Berg and all
Wow!
Wow. They must have been desperate for a new digs. Nice a warm here in Jozi this morning.
Nice and chilly bees
I would like to point out that honey and pollen bread are⁶ only survival food for getting through winter and they can not feed larvae with it Your reproductive food is fresh pollen and nectar that is used for feeding larvae In winter the feeding bees supplement the low protein levels of pollen with protein stored in their body fat That is why it's important not to stimulate the queen to lay with a thin sugar syrup because the feeding bees will deplete the protein in their bodies and this can lead to colony collapse if done continuously for 3 brood cycles It is only the feeder bees in a hive that can consume pollen for production of royal jelly and worker bee and drone jelly Yes they feed all the bees in the hive
Thanks, Hannes, this is so informative and has led me to read up more on the use of resources gathered by bees. I found this article from Jamie Ellis at Florida University that goes into detail but is an easy read. edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/IN868 - Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Very nice and educational
