Stamkos is a first ballot HOF and will have a statue built outside of Amalie. So don’t mistake this post with Stamkos-filed hater aide!!! The reality is that Stamkos 40G/40A season does not tell the whole story. Apox 20G/20A of that production came on the PP, where he continues to be one of the most elite snipers and PP specialists to ever play the game. TB had #1 overall PP in the league, as they often do, and we’re really good on the PK as well. It’s 5v5 where TB has really fallen off from the days of their 3 straight Cup runs. Getting better 5v5 is Tampas big offseason goal, along with getting younger and extending their window. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done with no draft capital, no cap room, and nobody in the NHL interested in helping an organization that does things better than their own! This move alone checks all of those boxes. Stamkos, while still an elite sniper, does not drive much or create much opportunity 5v5 anymore. In fact, he has not in quite some time. That’s why the one time 1L Center has been playing 2L Wing for past few years now. He doesn’t bring much to that second line to make other players better around him, he simply capable of finishing opportunities when they’re on his stick the way he always has been able to. Guetzel is a better, more impactful 5v5 player, who will elevate 2nd line players around him. He’s also 5-6 years younger which gives us that level players for several more years. You are hearing it hear, Stamkos will never score 40 goals in a season again, and I would not be surprised if he struggles to hit 20 at 5v5. Also, in next couple of years, a major regression is coming. It is likely not coming anytime soon for JG. The Bolts may not be upgraded for 24-25 as of now. I’d say the are fairly similar quality team, but the are in much better shapes e to compete in 25-26, 26-27, and 27-28 thanks to this move, as well as the one that brought JJ Moser and Connie Geekie to town! I would say the Knicks will be title contenders if the center position is solidified. Losing Hartenstein is a serious blow since Robinson is so injury prone. I did read an article stating they may try to acquire Andre Drummond. I would also like to see what happens with Precious Achiuwa because he has shown a lot of grit. Kolak, Divencienzo and Hart off the bench is surely a good bench.
