..It amazes me n makes me so proud ..born in 77 i grew up in wythenshawe ..in early 80s when my dad would take me and my sister to piccadilly every 2 weeks ..to me and my sister it was the best day out ever, piccy gardens was beutyfull like everywhere in manchester at the time ...😎
Market day was actually fair ground day.
Ex Mancunian here (Cheetham Hill)I left in 1964 to join the army (only way a poor boy could escape in those days.) Watching this in Sydney Australia. So pleased I left. I have a swimming pool in the backyard here instead of the toilet, and the parrots fly around free, and not in cages.
Great memories of places l knew lived on kirky lane loved Belle Vue two massive car parks filled with buses in the summer almost every night miss it all
Sadly Donny like the rest of England is now a khazi in most places. Can’t think why
Kiss the Alderman..
I was once in the Sheffield University gun club, and the Range Officer said, "Which bloody idiot has signed in as 'Tony Capstick'?!" Unfortunately, he got himself into some bother, not long after, by firing a Walther PPK out of a taxi window, while drunk, in the city centre 😯
Arr Great Old Childhood Memories of my Home Town and Not like this these days Now.
Lived here all my life and I'd move in an instant if I had the means.
Good riddance when you can then.
@jackbrown4120 Hello Jack, I know what you mean. I'm ex-Manc, I moved down South England, over 50 years ago never ever regretted it.
Wonderful films, priceless. Thank you!
🇬🇧💙
I remember a big stone building that had 2 large statues of men holding up a portico. Can t find any photos of it.
So sad what happened to Doncaster .the council would have taken down the mansion house if they had dared.Doncaster could have been a stylish historic town now.
So basically before the 1960s Doncaster was a picture perfect Town. Now it's just a mess 👍🏼
4:47 damn those private motoring interests to hell.
Sheffield has changed a lot since 1930
One thing I'll never forget the round about inside dawn stear market
A bit too open to people inclined to bombing. Like most of Britain.
RIP Mr Capstic 👍
Should never have gone into Europe, lost jobs gained dodgy immigrants

Only one football club in this great City-fact, Manchester City FC. There’s one nearby you’re thinking of, CTID.
Thank you Howard
Love our City
Aspley in Nottingham in the 1950
Fantastic video thank you
Did you ever upload the longer version (only asking because this is called a Trailer). Same with the Sheffield one, both of them I loved and send my thanks to you for uploading them and reminding me of the town where I was born.
I participated twice in the Lord Mayors parade, as a cub in the Sheffield 31st.
just a hell hole now
How ?
@@doyoumind9356 open your eyes
@@markleaning107 People see things differently.
Its nice to come here and find I'm not the only person who likes seeing these video's and also believes Sheffield is the worse for loosing some of it's old buildings. It looks a shadow of it's former self, I cant recall seeing a parade through town in 34 years of living.
oh and i remember the smell of piss down there too
john owls
You were probably the little boy I had to dangle over a drain to have a wee. Sorry you still smell of piss. HEY, here is a thought ! HAVE A WASH !
fish
Lib, Lab and Con are all the same parasites, the property developers who leech off Doncaster are grasping Tories my friend.
I wish I could have seen Doncaster in person through those years. It saddens me how much it has been ruined by the council allowing so much of the beautiful history be destroyed and the disrespect some people have for their town, vandalising and littering everywhere. What should be beautiful buildings now destroyed by the council allowing an overload of shops, many of which now fail in the first few months, to do whatever the hell they want to it with no respect for maintaining the architecture.
Great to see so many people walking
FAKE!
The xmas lights in the 70s were amazin ! People used to make a night of it walking round town , dancing coloured water fountins to music alsorts ! Bring it back !
'Ello there, it's me Tony Claptrap......
the good days when the UK was great and proud
The fishes looked dead sad!
its a shame there isnt a clip of the old wholesale market my farther owns Enoskaye if anyone knows that?
@kingbungay Pubs and clubs. Now Darnall is turning into a shithole. :-(
Weird I typed in random letters, let spell check do it's work, and I end up here, it's amazing how much history this place has though I've never heard of it :P
We still have the market! a good one at that! they will never take that from us!
Da Stig : - It's as good as gone now , my friend . Nothing's sacred in Donny' .
@@aribahombre2942 the market was great in the 1980's.
@caterpillarmodel LOL
@AMikeOnLine You was posh.....we had to kick the celler door :-)
HaHa! ... i love that "HELLO" at the beginning in proper northern style!
@eyechubcunt and in the 90's replaced them with........ TRAMS!
Who remembers RAG day and the boat race down the Don??? I can recall back in the 70's being on Ladies bridge when someone was throwing bags of flour at the students in the boat race, one of the students caught a bag and launchede it back at the bridge as fast as owt!!- it smacked a bloke full in the face but he laughed like mad at it!! The good old days!! The City is unrecognisable now, long gone is the soot and smog- even the birds don't cough during the dawn chorus anymore!!!
I do !
Unrecognisable, yes! Student boat race? Who remembers the Star Walk? A fantastic tram system dismantled for 'vested interests' not for the traveller, how about installing a Ghost Train round the pedestrianised City centre!
doncaster's almost unrecognisable in this video, wish they didnt pull down all those really historic buildings such as the guildhall, and go and replace them with them hideous grey concrete buildings we see today, obscuring the skyline of doncaster.
@cheekyleopard fair enough, i dont really go that much i prefer less frequent nights out but bigger ones in places like leeds an sheffield, every man to his own tho i spose
@BigBaggaBlues Nah im not joking. Its a brill night out. Loads of pubs within a smallish distance, and down to earth people. No-where is like Donny! Im bias because i was brought up there, but i think its generally accpeted that Doncaster is good place to go drinking.
