    I watched you at the CA state fair many years ago. I’m a large animal veterinarian now and appreciate your concern for livestock wellbeing more than I did then. A quiet and low stress animal always makes for a healthier animal and a better end product and there’s plenty of science and medicine to back that up.

    That horse will keep doing that for the rest of his life because he was and is allowed to by pacifist tree huggers. Horses understand the pecking order with a good elbow to the jaw. Horses kick and bite each other to establish this order. To them we are just another horse to dominate or to be dominated by. Are you going to be on top of the totem pole or are they? Your choice.

    This 2023. Not victorian or neanderthal eras. People in most countries (following veterinarian research and public advice) now use body halters on dogs (and cats.) Dragging a dog around by it´s throat has been scientifically proven to cause damage to the underlying neck muscles, tendons and blood vessels. A collar only gives control of the head and neck but the entire body of the dog can pull, strain and be damaged using the neck collar. In a harness, the handler has complete control of the entire dog. No amount of pulling or wriggling will damage the dog. Have you never noticed that all Government and working dogs i.e. Police, Border control, Armed forces; Animal Rescue, People Assistance dogs are ALL in harness now. So, bring yourself up to date and instead of demonstrating how to stress and possibly injure a pup, get a doggy harness and show people how to have better control of their dog and give themselves less stress too!

    • @curtpatestockmanship
      @curtpatestockmanship Рік тому

      You might be right about the harness, but the whole point of the series was working with feel. I prepared the pup inside the kennel to go out in the bigger area and as the video displayed the pup did not hit the end of the line hard and if it did I would give and move with the pup to let him learn without hurting himself. I’m glad your thinking about the pup. So am I.

    • @chrisreynolds3351
      @chrisreynolds3351 Рік тому

      @@curtpatestockmanship Thanks for the response. I appreciate that you think you are doing the lead training in a concerned and caring manner for the pup. I am sure you are a wonderful owner and trainer too. But it is a case of keeping up with new methods. The old ways were ´good´in their day but as a caring dog owner and trainer I am sure you will now consider if dragging a dog around by it´s neck is actually the best way of training. Maybe you might consider watching some vids on training a puppy/dog to walk on harness. Obviously it is your call. But someone with a good site could do much to educate and help new owners be more enlightened. In the EU and UK we train by play and reward. In the UK & Europe we are horrified that many dog owners in the USA are still using medieval choker chains, electronic collars and spike collars (collars with spikes inside so the dog gets it´s neck stabbed when it pulls!) These train by pain and shock. We train with play and reward. And (totally illegal in most of europe now)) some owners are still mutilating dogs by cutting ears into pointed shapes and docking tails because they think it looks better! Change takes time I guess.

      @@chrisreynolds3351 I wasn’t aware that the Atlantic Ocean was the dividing line between people who “do” and people who “don’t.” If you believe that just because a dog is born in the UK or EU that they’ll be treated with respect and kindness you’re just as ignorant as the next person.

    Hey Curt - curious if you have ever started a horse that didn't want to turn to the right at the walk, trot and especially the lope when being ridden? He tailed beautifully to the right and left on his own was super athletic. He always acted like he was being stuck with a cattle prod when asked to move forward. Well bred quarter horse Grays Starlight and Sun Frost bred. Had him vet checked along with two chiropractors looked at him but found nothing wrong. Was he part critter or maybe you have seen this before? A beautiful well bred horse. He was 2 1/2 when I started him and 6 yrs old when I gave up on him. He could really buck. I've been around some riding and training part time for 47 yrs but not as much experience as you have. Ever had a horse that had your number?

    Such a great series. Thanks Curt for uploading all these dog videos, it is such great information. I really liked on this video where you try to just let the dogs do it themselves, and also when the cattle trot off, you are somewhat teaching the cattle that they need to walk peacefully behind you. So great. Can’t wait for you to come down.
