Mooer GE200 -- Van Halen Brown Sound
Переглядів 24 тис.7 років тому
This patch created on the new Mooer GE200 modeling and multi-effects unit. All sounds come directly from the GE200, into my Focusrite interface, and recorded into GarageBand. There has been a lot of "chugga-chugga" type demos of this unit, and I wanted to demo something more rock-oriented and Marshall-derived. I figured why not try to do a brown sound? I purposefully limited myself to using the...
AX8 Brown Sound Test
Переглядів 5 тис.7 років тому
Test of my latest Brown Sound patch for AX8. The VH track is in the one channel, and my guitar is in the other, semi-replicating the mix from the record (minus the drums/vocals/bass of course in the one side). How-to video for this patch will be up shortly!
Celestion Creamback IR Demo
Переглядів 3,5 тис.7 років тому
Tones begin at 0:44. UPDATE: Listening to the video after uploading, some of the differences in the IR's were lost in translation/compression. The differences were subtle but noticeable less so here. Oh well, give them a listen anyhow! They're great. Short demo of some Creamback IR's, new from Celestion. A couple of sounds using initial favorites. I really like this IR's well done, Celestion! T...
Brown Sound Effects

Part two of the Brown Sound patch creation videos, this time focused on some minor tweaks that Axe-Fx II users can implement, as well as signature phaser and flanger sounds from Eddie's early years. Here's part one: ua-cam.com/video/04lWiqFfl2o/v-deo.html

Creating the Brown Sound in 10 minutes! Ok, well, a few minutes longer, but you get the idea. Part two Brown Sound Effects link here: ua-cam.com/video/VWnnaoohYFQ/v-deo.html
Marshall Preamp Vid
Переглядів 3,6 тис.9 років тому
A short video to show how easy it is to get great tones out of the Axe-Fx II. This video also shows how great the JMP-1 models sound. I've recently discovered them, and am having fun dialing up tones with these models. No narration in this video, but you can see what I do to dial up this tone. There is no sound at first, until the amp and cab are loaded.
Andy Timmons Tone

Matching Andy's tone from some UA-cam clips, using the Axe FX II. Here are the clips I used: ua-cam.com/video/Cz3h5jOb6dw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/BUwtCExJ_Lc/v-deo.html
JTM45 Demo
Переглядів 1,2 тис.9 років тому
This is a Marshall JTM45 patch I created on the Axe FX II. I started off going for an early Clapton-type tone. Added a treble booster for more gain that takes it out of Cream-era gain levels, but still a nice vintage Marshall tone.
Marshall Plexi June 6, 2015

Marshall Plexi patch created with the Axe-FX II. Trying to get a good mid-gain Marshall style tone. Comments welcome.
please share the patch
Thanks for your tone tips !! You’re awesome at dialing in the GE200, great playing too !!
GREAT SOUND!! Please can send the settings of this !❤ Thanks so much 😊
hey anthony great work. still waiting for the how-to video to get brown sounds out of the ax8. keep on rocking. evh is the goat.
Nice Anthony, great demo! Really like the Creamback IR's

I got mine today and tested. Great piece of machine. Beautiful patches!
mème pas fait une démo sur les accompagnement de batterie nul
very nice demo indeed. thanks! I ordered my GE200 yesterday and waiting to get my hands on it too
Nice tone! its helpful thank u bro
Hi there! Really awesome video! I know I am super late but would you be able to post the tutorial to get this tone on the mooer ge200? thanks!!
Great video , great job .
Hi I have the GE 250. The sound is very nice...can I have the steps to get it please? Thanks
Strange almost nobody on UA-cam use it with an tube amp. Wonder why.??
Which One better nux mg300 or mooer ge200
back in 2020 for some great tone ty
Cool. Let me add here real quickly that reportedly Eddie Van Halen turned the bias of the power tubes up to the max. (which is why he blew so many tubes; not the Variac was responsible for that). Maybe adding a Echoplex type booster in front of the amp might help also.
RIP EVH... He'd be extremely impressed if he ever watched this video
That’s just about the nicest thing anyone has ever said about these videos. Thank you! Losing Ed is a huge loss. He left behind a legacy or recordings and wonderful music that I’ll always enjoy, that’s certain.
You think the ge250 can duplicate? I just got and havent played that much.
I realize Im kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Bruno Case try Flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Tyler Christian yea, I have been watching on flixzone for since april myself :D
@Tyler Christian Thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I really appreciate it!
@Bruno Case no problem =)
Whats is your recommendation about the eq... pre o r post amp in the chain?
TL;DR -- EQ before the amp can affect the character of the tone, especially with regard to quality and levels of gain; EQ after is more about shaping the overall character of the timbre applied to the guitar's signal by amp (and cab and mic, depending on where the EQ is placed). Good question, and a tough one to answer with absolutes. Here's how I look at it: EQ *before* the amp can help shape the amp's character, especially as gain levels increase. Cutting bass and adding mids/highs before the amp can help drive more searing/syrupy tones; add bass and cut mids/highs and you get more of a fuzz-like character. Of course, I need to add qualifiers here -- not like this is absolutely true for all amps! By comparison, EQ *after* the amp tends to be more of a final shaping of the character that has already been applied to the guitar signal via the amp/cab/mic. Some people really like to boost mids and highs prior to the amp, get that searing/syrupy tone, but then use post-EQ to add back in the lows to taste. Most amplifiers have a preset network of tone shaping that is applied to the input already, where the manufacturer has decided how much bass to cut. That's pretty common. Some amps -- the Mesa Mark series is a classic example -- have their tone controls placed earlier in the pre-amp stages and (often) have additional tone shaping available later in the circuit via graphic EQ sliders. If you read their manuals they explain this well (also, a shout-out to Mesa for their manuals -- they're quite well-written, very conversational with lots of examples, well worth a read even if you don't own one of their amps). A common theory for Mesa Mark amps is to crank the highs and cut lows with the tone knobs, but then make up for it by boosting lows later in the circuit using their graphic EQ. The classic "V" shaped EQ is an example. Cool stuff. This idea of cutting lows at one point and adding them back later is pretty common in other areas too, such as in record-making. When vinyl records are cut, the bass frequencies are significantly attenuated to help with the cutting of the grooves, and to save wear on the needle. The preamp for the turntable would then apply the opposite EQ, restoring the bass frequencies to their original levels before being amplified out the speakers. Thanks for the question. Hope this helps.
I see that the Axe fx comes with 4x12 G12H CREAMBACK (CEL), how much does this differ from that ir?
This Is perfect for AC DC back in black tone!
Anthony .. is it possible to export the preset for download to our units I picked up in ax8 fractal because of your Van Halen Brown sound tone. By far you have the best understanding of frequency settings to recreate the Van Halen tone I was hoping you would make the preset available for download .. copy all your settings although the new updated firmware is radically different in many ways from yours thank you so much
Hello Sotirios! Sadly, I no longer own the AxeII and these patches were lost long ago. I would think that most of the settings I employ here are still found in the most recent AX8 firmware, but they are likely relocated in the editor. The same basic principles apply especially with regard to the delay and flanger. I believe the same IR's are still included in the base firmware as well.
@@AnthonyFerguson01 thank you .. the updates in the firmware and I use an Ax8 .. I have to scour and search for the settings I found most of them .. and it came pretty close. You have to account for the pickups in your guitar I'm using passive Seymour Duncan's .. it definitely one of the guitar tones I'm going to use. Thank you again
Hi Anthony, I bought a used AX8? The sound on my AX8 is very disappointing and was wondering if you might be able to help me. I have an 82 les paul or my 75 strat and they both don't sound great. You mentioned you are using a 80s les paul. I could email you rather than YT. Thanks.
Hello Ravi! Sorry to hear you've had some struggles with your AX8. I no longer have mine, but I've had many Fractal products so I'm familiar enough with them. If you want to ask me some questions, feel free -- I'll try to answer what I can.
Does it feel responsive like the real deal?
Hard to say. I've not taken this unit and run it through a power amp and cab, with volume. That would be the best test of "feel". In my opinion, taking any modeler (or amp!) and running it through a pair of monitors does change the overall feel. A large part of that comes from the fact that the volume is lower, so you're missing that interaction of guitar-speaker at high volume. Some modelers are better at the "feel" part than others, and frankly it's all very subjective. To me, the Fractal units feel different from a unit like this -- now, whether that difference is a good or bad thing is totally dependent on the player. Back when I was using v1 modelers, like the first Line 6 Pod, the feel was noticeably "smoother" than an actual amp. Some people like that smoother feel, others think it's too far from a real amp. YMMV. I'd say that the feel of the Mooer was less disconnected and smooth than an early Pod, but not as realistic as an Axe-FX. Of course, this unit costs *significantly* less than an Axe-FX, or even a Helix, so there's going to be some tradeoffs there. That said, some people may actually *prefer* those tradeoffs.
Great video mate, thanks!
WTF?
Wow! One of the best Van Halen tones I've ever heard! you wouldn't happen to do the Van Halen Brown sound on the atomic amplifire 12? I'd love to know the settings for it! Thanks again!
Just saw this video. Nice work. Any updates to this? Haven't purchased an Axe FX yet, but this is pretty compelling. I still enjoy using the old pedal board, but looking to tone chase. Looking at the Axe FX ii XL.
To all tone freaks and gear sluts. Quick question. What is the fuss about obtaing anither mans tone!! Having been a lifelong fan of Van Halen and a guitarist of 40 years, well, NEVER have I had any desire to replicate another players tone. No disrespect ro those who do , its just why bother!? To me what is remarkable about Eddie Van Halen and for that matter, any player of reverence, is they ALL have said they achieved their DISTINCT TONES by avoiding copying other players sounds. Steve Vai, for example , said multiple times that he was trying to get the tone he was hearing in his head. Slash and Eric Johnson ate both tone chasing freak perfectionists and both have claimed they never tried to copy anyone else's tone. My point is pretty simple...EVH. Vai. Satch. Eric Johnson, SRV, Page, Beck and a slew of orhers , are easily identified by their tones because they always strived to have THEIR OWN TONE! The Fractal appears to be a great device to achieve QUALITY sounds, why waste it on ripping someone else's sound off!?? Just a thought
Best demonstration of this unit on UA-cam!
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Cool demo
Thank you!
PART 3 PLEEEEEEEEEASE I can safely say on behalf of everyone we NEED the final part! Great work my firend!!!
Ok, my family is completely new to playing guitar.... would this Mooer ge200 be a good learning tool for us to start experimenting with different sounds, as opposed to like a Headrush/Helix that would be way more expensive, or separate pedals that would cost a lot and be less flexible as far as experimenting....? I've been looking into pedals.for a while, and this seems to offer a LOT for the price.....we dont need something that soumds perfectly like a $2000 tube setup of $1500-2000 in pedals, just something that will approximate sounds closely enough to male learning fun...similar to the kinds of songs/riffs in this video, amd some blues...some clean-ish modern sounds for the young ones ...etc... Thanks for the video!
Oh, and if our amp is a tiny practice amp, would this sound good with amp/cab sim on and direct playing through an EV powered speaker... i have a set of PA speakers ....
It's a good entry-level unit from a price perspective, but has some really good tones. If this unit had come out in 1999, it would have been a leading unit in terms of price and capabilities. That said, these days, it's considered entry level. I think it's easy enough to use that it would be okay for beginners. The routing is somewhat limited, as are the number of amps/effects/etc that can be used at one, but that limitation would keep users from getting too confused. Will it sound good through a practice amp? No way to answer that. I have no doubt that you could tweak it to sound good into a practice amp, but I would expect there to be some knob-twisting to get there. I don't think you'd get immediate great tones that way, but it could be done.
Trying to make up my mind what pedal to get. But for the money this pedal is worth it. Thanks for the simple video going through it's tones. Very helpful
Hey there thanks for the great video ! helped a lot ! I have this processor, but I am not satisfied with the sound quality .. Maybe I do something wrong but my setup is Guitar > Mooer ge200 > blackstar id core 10 v2 stero amp .. I asked to one of the pro guitar players, and she told me to use preamp before the amp is that correct ? and in case I need to get a preamp how should be the set up ? because sound quality is not satisfying at all .. it is not like in the description videos .. thank you !
Im looking into getting this Mooer.... In your case, it might be in the settings, as you can change the output depending on if you are going into an amp, or direct to a PA or recording interface, etc... Good luck, and let me know if you get it sorted....I'm hoping to get this pedal simulator, and a Blackstar is one of the amps on my short list for soon after....
Honestly, I think you'd be better off just using the Blackstar by itself. I have that little amp, and it sounds pretty good! I have no doubt that running the Mooer into the Blackstar could create challenges. I'm sure someone out there has tweaked it to make it sound good, but I'm sure it takes some knob-twisting. If you took the Mooer with a patch that included an amp/speaker/mic combo, and run it into the Blackstar, you're essentially running the Mooer's modeled signal through another stage of amp/cab/speaker modeling. That could cause weird issues if you don't account for it. That would have to be tweaked by ear, but it could be done.
Superb unit...
Didn't know MMA fighter Tony Ferguson played guitar and was't in shape back in 2015
Sounds great! Does the GE200 play nicely with GarageBand?
No problems on my end, though I'm using a Focusrite interface (most of the time) to get sound into my Mac.
Sir let me ask you that did you use audio interface from ge200 to record this clip? or you use XRL from ge 200 through Sound card and direct to computer?
Sintakoun BOULOMMAVONG I use Reaper in my pc to record the sound from my ge200 and a headset to listen to what I’m playing, cause of the lag as I just plug it via USB
I sent the output of the Mooer into my Focusrite Scarlet interace, into my little Mac.
Just bought one thanks
Can you do 2 pedal type in the chian? Like 2 delays or 2 reverbs and so on.
Nice video. Does Ge 200 amp simulation works well in amp return with Cab simulation off?
Sorry Bruno -- never tried that with this unit.
I don't care how it sounds as much as I like the display and interface. Lights...cool. But these things always have good metal tones in them. This unit and the Black Truck just look cool.
Superb. Can I have the JCM 900 patch setting of the amp and cab please?? Cheers
Hi Anthony! Nice to you pull out on the GE200, I'm interesting in the Fender Deluxe patch if you could be so kind to send it to me or just publish it on some of the Mooer GE200 official Facebook side. my e-mail is: carlo.natali@vabb.no THNX! ;) Ciao!!!
Thanks Carlo! I no longer have the GE200, or I'd happily send you the patch. Maybe try to see what the settings were from the screen in the video.
This is great.
Ever tried to do the dive bomb effect( Ed used a Univox Ec Tape delay to change the pitch slowly) at the end of eruption?I bet you could come up with something stellar.
thanks !!!
Can you stop by my band's rehearsal one day and help me dial in my amp? ;)
