welcome to absolute madness!
Werner Herzog's documentary "My Best Fiend" about the movies that he made with Klaus Kinski is a wild and amazing and sometimes disturbing film. It's incredible the things they did together in some difficult circumstances for their art. They both brought something special to those films. They are worth watching as well as the documentary. Thanks.
Just watched the spice diver version with all deleted stuff put back in, and I really enjoyed it. I do hope Lynch will go back at some point and make his cut of it, but of course that is very doubtful at this point.
Such a great movie it was! General aesthetics, music, that "19e century steam punk touch", and the navigator's portrayal he achieved, Villeneuve even didn't dare! ...Excetp for the performance of Kyle MacStuff, who personifies Paul Atreides with somewhat a mussel's charism...
This movie is a riot….grew up reading William S Burroughs and watching Cronenberg. Peter Weller telling the story of the guy who trained his asshole to talk is the definition of FANTASTIC 😂
Lynch’s dune has been one of my favorite movies for most of my life. It is epic, before its time, and incredibly well shot and acted. I really wish David felt better about his work
David, I am going to quote Duke Leto Atreides, The Just. DAMN THE SPICE! STOP YOUR WHINING AND MOVE ON!
Lynch is a great filmaker, but he has very specific strengths. While he could capture spiritual and aesthetic parts of Dune, he simply wasnt up for the task of making a sci-fi epic, nor a complete telling of the themes of Dune (as evidenced by the ending, as well as the half-script of Dune Messiah). Still, it could've been a more complete film if it werent for the studios butchering it from the beginning. At least he was able to get a movie he was proud of after that mess (i think it was called Blue Velvet).
David should not appolygize, his movie is Amazing!!! Greatest movie ever!!
Ehhhh....
The imagery of Lynch’s Dune is fantastic though. The story is weird and fast, but I like it as a movie.
I saw it in 84 without any expectations having never read the book, and I really liked it.I just received the actual book so maybe It will become apparent to me what was so controversial? For example I hated I am Legend probably because I had read the story.I could have passed on the gross out effects I admit.
It came out 7 years after Star Wars so everything about it felt horribly dated.
I think the main controversy is that it is both extremely weird (the books are weird too, but not Lynch levels), campy, and that it shies away from many of the core themes of Dune, such as the fallibility of heroes, and the dangers of religion as a tool to control people.
One of those movies that really benefits from a) reading the book and b) knowing the history of the author. A great, sadly poetic film.
"I can think of at least two things wrong with that title."
I saw Naked Lunch in 1992 at East Carolina University, it was a sneak preview and I was 17. I will never forget that frat boy audience hooting and hollering.
LOL, sad to see someone disavow an iconic piece of work, he encapsulated the story in a much tighter framework, with a SUPERB cast, and kept the feel of the story much better than the current one. Denis bent the knee to the feminist screed, giving way too much screen time to both the Jessica and Chani characters than they deserved (aside from having Jessica appear more like a sister than mother to Paul), denaturing Paul's essence to that of a vapid child with little to no agency. Gorgeous visuals, but the spirit of the story was twisted out of shape by woke BS. And do not get me started on the larger body of Herbert's Dune cycle, as IMO, Frank decided after the fact to parlay his initial Hero's Journey offering (which he nailed) into a deconstructionist's wet dream.
embarrassing, genuinely so embarrassing
@@lufufi3iboo Interesting thing about Art, it is open to interpretation, this is why it behooves creators to STFU up meanings, let the audience make their own individual call
@@ardalwinterborn your shitty interpretation ruins the depth and nuance of the book. paul is a character inspired by T. E Lawrence; he was never EVER meant to be a typical hero and a savior, and thinking that only displays the level of reading comprehension you're at
It is a terrible movie that fails to make the viewer give an ounce of a shit about any character or plot point. Your opinion is wrong and you have no taste or creative ability.
I think you should reread Dune. Paul WAS a vapid child with little to no agency. Herbert was already deconstructing the hero's journey in the first book; he intended, from the beginning, to manipulate his readers into rooting for a fascist via the mere structure of the story, then intended for the audience regret this once they see what came of it. Rarely do people who complain on the internet about "woke bs" know what they are talking about. "Wokeness" has lost all its meaning; identifying as anti-woke is meaningless. Yes, there are things about the way culture has changed that are worth criticizing, but BE PRECISE, otherwise you come across as simply petulant.
Dune made me completely write lynch off, I didn’t know he didnt like how it came out either
Interesting, it did the opposite for me.
@@meetdavidothespy different strokes for different folks lol
@@anonymous5405so you haven't watched Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, or Mulholland Drive?
That moving was terrifying but also amazing. I was a teenager when it was released. I was used to slasher horror movies and found most of them to be dumb. But then, this movie is in a completely different category. It's a drug-induced psychedelic nightmare. My favorite scene is, strangely, when one of the characters casually states that she is not actually saying what he hears. His hallucination is being honest!
It's reassuring to know that such mistakes happen to the best
The dubliners there will never be another group with the individual talents. Of barney mckenna luke kelly john sheehan ronnie drew. Kieron burke. Indivual s but rooled up into one. Phenomenal .

Absolutely a Marvelous Singer gone to soon.
If i can dare to critique this, i would say that your visual representation of greed through bank robbers doesn't really show how greed affects everyone, and how the 2000 billionaires of this world see it. I would have liked to see more than bank robberies to picture greed
Luke Kelly could sing the kick of a mule and a pedal off a rose
:) where did this footage come from??? its amazing!!!!!! :) MY ISLAND!
I thank you dearly for this great respect and love you show Luke Kelly
