Reser was a real workhorse. The banjoist usually got the "metronome" job in the orchestras, so as virtuosic as he was, you often couldn't tell just how capable a player he really was. Rather nice that he made sides like these. He makes this kind of playing seem effortless...1:12-1:30 sounds like material that could easily have appeared in a piano part (Zez Confrey would have been right at home), but here it is on the banjo.

I thought I had heard of Washboard Sam before, but after 20 mins of searching some lists not far from here, I figured out it was Ironing Board Sam, hah! Added this to a Blues list close to here.

Great record despite the noise. I notice the inner diameter is very close to the label. I wonder if this copy might have been in a jukebox, which rejected when the pickup got past the normal inner diameter point.
