How to Program an unlocked Yaesu FT-2900
This is how to program an unlocked Yaesu FT-2900.
I get this question often. This is now a feature built right into CHIRP software. If you don't see it in your radio list, then you need to download a newer version of CHIRP.

RARC Richmond Amateur Radio Swap Meet 2023
I have same problem, the device is working, backlight is not, i have chinesse unit from Hizbo or something like that, i asked seller about solution and he adviced me to change the led driver chip with the SY7200AABC chip, i ordered from ali in a lot of 10pcs, exchanged the wrong one and everything worked well, but after some days, a couple of hours run time one day i started the car and display is black again, radio working, same fault again. As i have more of the chip, not much problem to change again, but for how long? I am afraid after repair it gonna work some hours again, so is there something i could do better? Is there something i have to check, ir use "stronger" regulator to withstand the power for backlight? Any advice apriciated, the unit works well so far but i am getting bored to take it off from car again, disassembly, desolder and reinstall new chip, and all puting back with fear of getting broke again... Also every touch of electronics, flex cables, soldering pads are wearing out and one day it could cause another troubles or break even worse... Thank for any advice
Question about this radio, what is the type of reverse diode near the power cable i cant seem to find it anywehre
Very informative video! I was about to purchase this TYT TH-9800 but have heard about failure issues. I am undecided if I should go with Anytone AT-5888UV III... at least I haven't heard of issues so far with that model. Have you come around to have a look at that particular radio on your bench?
I've watched a few videos on this mod and none of you all tell what diode opens up what band. I only want to open up the UHF side and not the VHF side. Do any of you all actually know which diode is for what band??
Hello dear om it's a nice Upgrade! Was the other thing you install the ctcss tonesquech? Where can I get Tone Squelch board for my Alinco dr599?
I miss my FT-90 now.
With that welder you will burn everything 😮
Where did you find that manual at?
4:45 Ok this may be the dumbest question ever but, could a person relocate the diodes, to say a small daughter board of some sort with a "jumper" for the relocated ones to essentially make them "Removable / Replaceable by just moving the jumper in the future if you changed your mind????
I like doing things like this but I think this one is out of my league.
love the repair! keep em coming. very relaxing! ❤❤❤
Agreed, keep up the excellent work!
Infiniti ❤
Those are the two CMX138 A/D chips used for each frequency bank. Original 9800's over-voltaged the chips and theyd both eventually go out. The revised radios sliced the input voltage and added a zener diode to drop the voltage to 3.7 volts. Ive replaced 3 chips on two different boards. Blown chips result in low auidio out and low mic gain to no audio out via the mic during transmit. I went through 3 of these radios. What appears to have happened is somone unfamiiliar with SMD repair over soldered the tabs and left too many pins not anchored and also to much flux left behind and possibly even shorted tabs with slag solder. Two solutions during repair. (1) install a zener diode to drop input voltage from 5v to 3.7v; (2) add a heat sink to each chip to help dissipate excessive heat generated during transmit. Caution should be noted that the capacitors in front of each CMX is easily over heated.
Olá esse rádio é um rádio bom ou ruim?
Nice i own one now still trying 2 figure it out

Andrew wants to know if you want to go for sushi
Yes, that would be excellent.
I did the mod and it worked perfect, Thanks. I do have a question though. When i try to program with the mic the key pad numbers aren't displaying correctly, i push 1 and the 5 appears, the only ones that are correct are 9 and 0. Any ideas ? I just replaced the mic and its the same thing. Thanks again, Rick.
Holy shit, are you in Alberta??
I'm in BC. That radio made it's way over here
Como se restablece a fabrica o se resetea icom ic 207h?
I’m currently working on a VX3200U. Replaced the crystal filters and an audio trace. Great radios.
in my place, indonesia, 144-148Mhz are so busy with many RAPI organization, the only choice for my and my families (or my bike organization) are using 136-139Mhz and above it 150-174Mhz (fck you Orari)
Can you get grms on it?
Cool. I have some of these units I need to get cleaned up and sold.
Good diagnosis. The Icom mobiles are great radios. I use a couple of them for packet digipeaters in Emmcom. They rock. I own one of these as well.
As I'm writing this in December 2024, quite a number of tech and radio reviewers rate the TH-9800 very highly, so perhaps the manufacturer has resolved their issues. I certainly hope so, because I recently bought one. Mine is the "D" variant which was advertised as being "improved" so fingers crossed.
Could you redo the video? Would really like to see you fiddling with Allen screws for 20 minutes before getting straight to the point
Two issues: Back light is dim 2) airband is not very clear as compared with quansheng uv k5 .
Any fixes ?
Also can you please mark clearly of the two zeners . One was clear other one with zener and resistor , is it in series with diode . And value. Of both. Zeners and resustor for preventive maintenance? Thank you
NEVER EVER EVR EVR sand paper ye gads headbanger fix that is
Huh
I bought one of these radios. Checked >t on bench for about hslf sn hour. And sent that damg thing back.

Trying to like some videos and drive tge views up a bit, and I did subscribe. You deserve more exposure..
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Spanner socket. I always called them..
Good catch on the antenna port. That would make a difference with that not connected. I just purchased a TK7180 for our club for an existing Allstar Node. It currently is hooked to a TYT 9000D and it has been problematic with noise. I have used commecial Icoms for packet digipeaters and they have worked flawlessly. I just starting down the road with these commercial Kenwoods. I have several Kenwood Amateaur radios which absolutley work fantasticly and I want to experiment with some Kenwood commercail radios. Thanks for getting them fixed up. I enjoy watching you repair them.
Good Repair.
I was going to mention the small component had disappeared off the board next to that microcontroller but then when I looked at the video I realised there was nothing there it was just not populated but it is good to see that you got it working😮😮😮😮😮
*******************************UPDATE******************************** The replacement part is a TS19371CX6 RFG IC LED Driver Regulator PWM. The one used in the video is rated for 9V with a maximum of 20V. It would be safer to use the TS19371CX6 which is rated for 18 Volts **************************************************************************
I think you made a mistake in determining the type of microcircuit. According to the datasheet, the AP3032 is powered by a voltage of up to 9V. And you have 13 volts at the input. It looks like there should be an ANBSY7200A chip there. The one you installed won't last long.
Thanks for pointing that out. The part used in the video does allow an absolute maximum of 20V as per the datasheet, but as you say will probably not like being over 9V for too long. I'll update the description to use a different part. Good catch!
I like the video opening. Very cinematic
How do fix one that is not turning on
tenho um igual, não tem RX..
Muito bom!
Will this mod also work on the IC-710?
Nice one, thanks for letting us watch. Now you have a Hello Kitty radio! 🙂
Love the colour of the new display!!
Hey I sent you a msg on email regarding a repair I’d like done if possible! Please get back to me 😎

You ruined the video with the music my friend. People came to watch and hear you explain, not listen to music.
please help me of my radio ft2900 no rx no tx when press ptt no function please help
Thanks for the video! Just did this to my radio, pretty easy under a microscope, a bit harder but still possible for those doing it naked eye. The 82k smd resistor seemed odd but i followed along and got great reports on volume from folks on the other end.
