Backpacking Half Dome, Clouds Rest, Bernice Lake. During a wildfire!
Переглядів 1076 місяців тому
Join me for an adventure in Yosemite's high country. We changed our plans due to wildfire smoke from the nearby Oak fire and camped near Little Yosemite Valley. We hiked Half Dome, spent a night at Bernice Lake, and then headed to Clouds Rest before returning to the valley via the John Muir Trail. Come along as we explore Yosemite's wilderness. PS: Straight hiker trash, super dirty, improvement...

We attended Yosemite Facelift. Decided to climb and look for trash at manure pile buttress (as well as other areas while driving around the park). Later in the day there was a YOSAR response to a fall from the half dome cables as well as a party struck by lightning on the summit. Enjoy the views

    Sweet vid, thanks. But 42 and 50 lbs. backpacks are way too heavy. With halfway decent gear you can probably halve that.

      Yeah, new pack weight is 23lbs without water. Not sure how the hell I managed to pack 50lbs. We also had extra pair of shoes and heavy outer shells that contributed.

    Nice video guys. I and my wife also plan to hike Mt. Whitney in the last week of April. Do you know if we need any permission for this term?

    • @michaelechsner
      @michaelechsner Рік тому

      You'll need a permit (non-quota). I hiked into the portal and beyond this week and there is about 10-15 feet more snow on the ground than you see in this video, so DO NOT USE this video as an Idea for what the conditions will be like this year. You'll need an Ice axe and crampons.

    We hiked little Yosemite in Sunol on Saturday. Definitely could see some good coverage in the Diablo Range. I heard people were waiting for hours to get into Mt Diablo on Saturday. Growing up here I’d fantasize about our terrain with a good base and 18” of powder. Would be some epic lines.

    On the ledges it might be wise to drop your packs and hoist them using ropes. That is too much weight to throw you off balance.

    Good work Michael. I'm planning the same thing this weekend, August 6th. Do recommend any spikes for those snow patches? Did you happen to record your route on All Trails?

    • @michaelechsner
      @michaelechsner 2 роки тому

      Thank you! Regarding the snow patches, spikes would help but it’s a very short segment. If you have good balance you should be fine without them. I did not record my hike on all trails but I used the app constantly to help stay on trail as it disappears often.
