Defective spring - Smith and Wesson Model 60 Revolver trigger kit installation.
Переглядів 112 тис.2 роки тому
I upgraded the trigger and hammer springs on my Smith and Wesson Model 60. However, the new hammer spring would not compress enough to allow the hammer to set in single action mode. Trigger upgrades can create a dangerous condition, because if the spring doesn't compress enough to allow the hammer to go all the way back into position, there could be a partial set of the single action trigger wh...

    I dont know if on time, probably not because you sir, have uploaded this video about 2 years ago, but my advice is that you can stretch permanently one of the springs you like less using household methods like using pliers even, and then cut the stretched spring to the size of stock one. You will get full range of movement you wanted and less pressure. I would put the stretched and cuttet spring heading the cutted side to the control piece holder "ball". Hope it helped :)

    Thanks for sharing this detailed view. When you laid the new spring down next to the original spring, you can see that the size of the spring material is just a little thicker. As soon as you explained the issue, my first thought was the thickness of the spring wouldn't allow it to compress enough to cock the hammer. Perhaps the thickness of the spring is more evident on the video. At any rate, great video showing this potential issue.

    I also cut the barrel to 18 1/2", removed the cheek piece and sanded flush on both sides, removed the flares on the pump handle. The flares on the pump handled jammed my fingers when pumping. Makes a lot nicer gun.

      Instead of gatekeeping something that’s been around for 73 years how about offering some constructive criticism such as telling him and the rest of us what he did wrong, if anything.

    I've been looking at buying one but the barrel length is a slight put off. I'm going to look into having one professionally cutdown to around 20 and the choke threads re cut.

    Why cut the barrel ??

    • @kyagsrus
      @kyagsrus 2 роки тому

      Tyler, I bought the shotgun for self defense. I felt the original barrel length was just too long to be able to maneuver in the house. Also, it reduced the weight a little more.

      Yes because some people have good reason. Iam fed up people like you asking questions like everyone in the world is stupid and YOU are the might reasonable guy. Like the world need a ide by your thoughts of how things should be. This is a free country!!! Ok here is another answer why someone would do that. I wanna a shotgun, iam female, and can’t handle the 12gauge or even 20 gauge well without affect the follow ups. In a self defense scenario i would do better with .410, and using 00 shot with 4 or 5 pellets is the best bet, and a semi auto would even be better, fast follow ups and I don’t have to worry about the trouble to pump, might get confusing and mess things up with adrenaline. And before you say bla bla judt go get some training, well what can you say about many videos of cops acting fast and desperate for their lives when shit hit the fan and they unload their guns and miss all the shots? Yeah look it up, has lots of videos, their training went out of the window real quickly. Ok, so in the market can’t find easy, if is even available, .419 semi with barrel or 18.1/2 or 20, is all long barrels,some you can find maybe is low capacity. So the best bet is buy one with these long barrels and cut down to 18.5 or 20, still is legal because is not illegal saw off the barrel, what is illegal is saw off a barrel of a shotgun with stock cut it down to less than 18.5, because it turns to short barrel shotgun, need pay tax stamp and ask permission to atf to do this before, too much shit, not worth. Also NO!!! I don’t wanna a shockwave .410, i wanna with stock to have better accuracy and aim and also to make the semi cycling more reliable, because i want semi right!?. This way i answered your questions. Yore welcome

    You should never manipulate the internals under mainspring tension with the sideplate off. The sideplate supports the hammer stud, trigger stud and rebound stud. Frame damage can occur in this scenario. Also be sure to remember to check the single action trigger pull of the revolver with a quality trigger pull gauge after making any spring changes. Using a lighter spring in the rebound slide can lighten the SA trigger pull to below the factory recommended rate of 3 pounds.

    I don't understand why take of the cylinder for only change the main spring. It would be easier with the cylinder in its place.

    • @kyagsrus
      @kyagsrus 2 роки тому

      Anibal, once the lower right plate cover screw is taken out the cylinder just slides out. It might even come out on its own while you're manipulating the revolver when the screw is out. And its best to have the cylinder out when manipulating the action and the revolver will lay flat too. It's important to keep the screws in the right order, since cylinder will bind up if the wrong screw is used.

    It would be useful to have the brand of the spring kit so your viewers could avoid using it, or at least be aware of the potential problem. It would also be nice to know if the problem occurred because your revolver is an older version of the model 60.
