Well done for saying the N word out loud. But this is just another form of doping. Taking the place of a rider who has better results but doesn't have the £ or brother to open the door. Let's hope the results or visible team support show themselves. Every rider in the world has individual challenges to overcome.
Thanks for giving us good racing. I watched st. piran going strong up Riperbakken( where my mother lives) Hønefoss, Norway and winning a couple of years ago ahead of Uno-x and Coop.
Mason rides better rn 4 flats in dendermonde and still 8th
What about ineos? They arent british?
Arguably Tom Pidcock is one of the greatest and most complete cyclists in history.
2:50 ¡WOW!
I believe that the pro riders are looking for more in cycling. Pro riders are wanting to take a shot at other disciplines in cycling to round out their resume. For example: PFP leaving MTB to Road and signing with Visma. Pidcock doing the same. Leaving Ineos in dire straits of having a big name and not finding it, forcing them to close the doors. but in the end, it always comes down to money! Its like what AC/DC sang: "comeon, comeon, listen to the money talk".
Pat McQuaid a legend. How?
Well the rest of the UK is going down the crapper why should be cycling be any different?
While I appreciate that UA-cam is set up to encourage click-bait titles, it is disappointing to see that the channel has chosen to run TWO videos with titles that are categorically false unless you are essentially saying women's pro teams aren't real pro teams. "There are now ZERO British pro teams..." except there are, they are just women so... they don't count? "Why Britain's last pro cycling team just shut down" except it's Britain's last MEN'S pro team. Really not that hard to add a single word to your titles to stop them from being both incorrect and discrediting women's sport.
I believe Tom once said his brother was better than him but he didn’t take it seriously enough
The reality is its a business and the publicity two Piddocks on one team will bring is huge. His results may not be brilliant but I´m sure he has serious potential
Controversy aside, It may be worth remembering the following factors: - Whilst a UCI Continental team, Saint Piran were not a professional outfit. Riders (and seemingly, staff members) were unpaid most of the time. At best, riders at this level should be considered 'semi-pro'/ very good amateurs. This was not in any way unusual, from circa 2016 onward, the vast majority of 'Pro' teams in the UK were merely masquerading as professional outfits, when in reality they were struggling to survive, let alone pay riders and staff appropriately. The list of similar teams included Swift Pro cycling, Ribble Pro Cycling, Canyon, etc. None of these teams were professional - the riders were very good amateurs. Very few of these riders (with some notable exceptions) ever made it to Pro-Conti level, and the vast majority simply moved on to other things outside of cycling after a few seasons of enjoying racing. - Saint Piran have never been a particularly strong team. Their strategy for rider recruitment saw them sign a lot of pretty average riders within the UK scene. In order for saint piran to witness any success (even at UK National B level), various other Conti and elite teams needed to fold , and riders from these teams give up the sport, for Saint Piran to ever see any results. Their success in recent years was predominately driven by a lack of competition. There were even instances of Saint Piran attempting to poach riders from other conti & elite teams mid season in 2021 before the ToB. - The decline of teams at this level was inevitable without somebody absolutely bankrolling it. - Maybe a less blurred line between amateur and pro cyclists in the UK is a good thing: people can enjoy racing at the weekend without a full conti squad turning up. In terms of developing talented riders who may turn pro; I am not convinced that the UK scene ever did this particularly well anyway. A lack of UK conti teams will certainly cut out a lot of dodgy activity. - Great Video. Thank you
Excellent investigative work Own - very nicely produced!🕵♀🧠

@ hahaha 🤝🏽
What even is the business model of any team?
I maintain what I say about the team management. It was a shame to see trinity go though, I feel Ineos could have stepped in there but politics rule. I hope all the riders find teams, but it’s worth celebrating the state of the UK junior scene. The amount of british juniors stepping up to WT Devo teams is fantastic! Long may this continue and improve, and then hopefully more investment may come to UK racing. The likes of The British Conti and Monument Cycling do help bring a lot more interest into the UK scene though, so thank you for that!
Pascoe is known down here is Cornwall for being a wheeler-dealer. He’s an interesting chap, and he’s done a lot of good, but he’ll always be in it for himself above all else, with cycling coming a close second. Separately, riders still have to bring sponsors or cash to get a ride at Pro-Conti level. I know a seriously talented rider that was recently offered a spot if he could bring €70k to the team.
The management of Saint Piran showed its abominable mindset when forging UCI stickers. Feeling sorry for the athletes and the staff, but certainly not for the crooks in charge of managing the team. Unmanageable indeed - and unacceptable.
Away to buy a £250 rain jacket, just serviced my 10k Pinarello...... only joking. I'm away for a run in my £65 ASICS
Love this great video and it sucks with the British Cycling Scene :(
Nice Totty.
I personally think that the concept of a “pro” cycling team, or any “pro” team outside state sponsored athletes is a joke. If a pro team is reliant on sponsorship to survive, it’s little more than a walking advertisement. Divorcing the sport from a reliance on forced equipment publicity and moneys should go a long way to making it a true “sport” again.
As a fellow Cornishman getting into cycling I was sad to read this news. Great vid - thanks.
firstly i dont think those bikes were faulty alex just wanted to ride his sworks and treks... secondly the only reason they had a good season in 2023 was because Canyon DHB folded and Rory wasnt around hahaha
simply its all about money.........................as in all 'pro' sports,
UCI stickers the issue!
The folding of Trinity was a shame, but St Piran seemed to be a basket case and not a great promotion for the sport. Not much of a loss (although I feel bad for riders and some of the staff). Sponsoring a Continental team is not viable. Hardly any exposure yet it requires some serious investment. You have to find people who truly love the sport as business wise it's a bad investment. Unfortunately. Best way forward seems to be the growing of a healthy domestic scene with club teams representing cities/towns battling each other. Have different leagues with promotion and relegation and see if that creates some interest. It at least matches the experience of the average sports watcher and sports journalist. It's too much of a niche sport with a niche culture at the moment.
I’m old enough to remember the implosion of ANC Halfords squad in the late 1980’s, this seems to be a case of history eerily repeating itself , and just like when ANC suddenly went under after the 1987 TDF it’s the riders and staff who get left high and dry with bills to pay and wages unpaid being left to scrabble around for a new job or ride 😢
I'm old enough to remember ANC in 1987 too. Long time
USA Cycling also not doing too hot either
Irish leprechauns have acquired all the gold. Irish leprechans are allergic to cold dreary U.K.'y races and want to steal all TRUMP's gold.
2004... basically your country only have a Cycling Is Sport Only in mind. That is not why people cycle, people cycle to get from A to B, nothing more nothing less. Cycling for Money came just later, when they were racing to get food. Your country only see it as a sport. Keep doing that and you will see it completely collapsing. But you actually know that: You aren't that dense.
These teams make no money and run on an oily rag, of course they're going to cut corners and we act like they're the bad guys. Without low level teams there's a big hole so let's not judge and start helping.
How is this true?? Isn't Ineos still around??
"Domestic" teams. This is about British racing, not world tour
@@IverKnackerov I tip my hat to ya.
It’s important to note that UCI accreditation for frames is not safety based. It is solely a ruling on the side profile of the frame tubes fitting within the UCI ‘bike template’.
This is super important. Many frames that are out there in public land now, being happily ridden by cyclists all around the world are mechanically safe - but don't carry the UCI Approved decal. Fitting fake decals was not a very good idea - but having measured the bikes up, they actually fall into UCI compliance for dimensions, which is what the approval process is all about. Other (safety) related checks are much more the province of the ISO or individual country / trading bloc trading rules.
Be good to more cycling on tv but have the same teams and same riders racing across road , track, cross and online. If this already happens then I’ve not seen it
St Piran was a shambles and a mess....they were never a proper team...(Riders even entered other events wearing Assos kit and saying they raced for them)....every rider seemed to be on different makes of bikes even at the same event....there team tactics were shocking at Tour of Britain and they were called out by other teams....it only seemed to be a team to get riders a licence to actually get rides in Conti races ..it was NEVER a proper outfit...also lack of visible sponsors on kit also shows what a farce it all was ...for me it's good riddance and don't come back!!!
The concept of being forced to ride specific gear and equipment just so you can race as a team is, silly to say the least. Look at sports like archery for instance; every member literally uses different equipment models and arrow choices depending on their personal preference. Why cycling has this strict ruling on uniformity of equipment is, frankly baffling and backdated to say the least
@@slowcyclist4324 you need to go and research the concept of a sponsorship deal 😂
@@slowcyclist4324 There have been instances where a team has used the brand identity of one sponsor but due to over-hanging contractual obligations, some riders have been using one bike, others, another. Historically, though, as a team sport, the main sponsors have been bicycle brands and they still play a significant part in the deal - otherwise, the team itself has to buy the bikes at something around (at best) full wholesaler price. A typical Conti team will need about 40 bikes per season, so that the riders have race bikes, training bikes, spares and speciality bikes (TT, etc). Even Conti one, there's usually a financial commitment on the part of the team towards the bike supplier & the efficient way to make that work, is to have the whole team on the same bike. It also helps the mechanics (only one set of mechanical spares, all the bikes carry the same kit so if worst comes to worst, kit can be swapped around, etc). If you've ever worked in the sport, you'll understand how this side of it works. It's a lot more complex than it looks from the outside and running a team is at least 50% a logistics and management job, not a sporting one.
Go sleep forever grandpa.
@MyDemon32 think you will find if you do half a percent of research all of what I have listed are FACTS!
My son played Independent League baseball, which is basically a low level unaffiliated minor league. Most of those players are required to pay a fee in order to try out.
This outcome was inevitable with Richard Pascoe at the helm 🤷 #shady
I'm never convinced that it was good for British racing to have one team that was so dominant, if nothing else alternative prospective sponsors get discouraged. Given the rumours about St Piran finances and bike compliance it would appear that the domination was based on dodgy foundations to say the least. If this story was about a team from abroad the British cycling community would be all over them like a rash. Edit: It would be nice however if British Cycling could actually come up with a way to promote and not hinder cycling development in the UK. Before we know where we are we'll be back to riding in circles in velodromes watched by well suited and booted officials with no road racing scene to speak of.
Brexit brexit and brexit.
The UK economy is so dire that businesses arent going to sponsor teams with minimal visibility.
Yet they were still going in 2021 & 2022 weren’t they? Leaving the single market didn’t impact them in those years.
@@wildsurfer12 haha 2021 was a year that economies were propped up by government subsidies. Economic ripples take longer than the short term shock. UK will be a small island economy in a decades time, a self imposed embargo by uneducated voters. An utter disaster.
Why is it that whenever anything goes into a tailspin these days its always the fault of those big bad nasty Brexit lot? Time to move on from the Brexit excuses, this team folded because it was toxic, other teams fold as there's just no ROI on sponsorship/investment & competitive cycling in the UK is on the bones of its arse right now because BC are toxic. Brexit is a long long way down the list of reasons, if at all.
It's not Brexit. The same VISA issues plague all non EU staff/riders. African, American, Australian, Canadians need work Visas. That is a major problem.
How sad theyll have to go france beligum italy
yes, but only 90 days per season given the post Brexit travel rules
I found the shouty text messages unnecessary and distracting, I'm really not sure what they are supposed to add.
I understand from speaking with someone involved with trying to establish a pro conti UCI team, that it is not only a problem we face here in the UK. Australian cyclist's are suffering similar issues, albeit their distance problems are somewhat magnified. I don't have the answers, clearly, short of finding a rich benefactor who would be willing be bankroll a team for 5 to 7 years, I think it is almost impossible. For what it is worth, if I had such financial firepower I would try and do it.
I agree - it seems that the current model for cycling (and a lot of pro sports) is to rely on a mega rich benefactor. Let me know if you win the lottery 😅
@monument_hq I will add you to the list..... I wonder where it ends for Ineos, it's not looking good at the moment. Relegation won't be an issue this cycle from world tour, but in 2028....
Great overview and I’m sure, lots more to unpack!
Thanks man!
Not great is it. But is it an opportunity to revive the humble cycling club race team?
Really?? In the tour of Britain.?? Seriously ?
@@IverKnackerov Go back to the 80's & 90's & there were quite a few club teams competing at an international level. Manchester Wheelers, GS Strada, Paragon RT - even individual riders from smaller outfits. Two riders from my own club competed internationally, both rode the Milk Race & one went in to ride the Olympics. It could be done then & the only reason it's not done now is that BC have turned their back on the road scene.
@@IverKnackerovAre you Bill Burr? 😂
The British suck so this is no surprise.
thanks for the mypad plug :)
No worries, fingers crossed for all the success in 2025 🤞🤞
