Have you had any response from gcc i bet you probably havent or youve been told how they restored statues in the park and keep the memorial garden looking nice which was stinking the last time i went in there many years ago and how gcc built a new play area 1 play area fir the whole park i took pictures many years ago of the park crumbling paths ponds a disgrace a multi sport court for football basketball which was full of glass the rockies which used to be beautiful are nothing but a cess pit like the ponds gcc class the park as a wildlife park now so they dont need to maintain it any park near glasgow city centre is kept lovely springburn park has been left to rot i used to go up the park as a boy with my mates or my brothers in the 70’s during the summer with our wee ma n granny and fish up there go on the boats visit the hothouse play on the swings pitch n putt but its all gone now Its become such an eyesore whoever is in charge of the parks in gcc should be sacked on the spot

I agree that the closing of the depot is not ideal, this is because it is no longer fit for purpose due to under investment. However the reason the pond is like that is because it is now habitat for the local wildlife. The machines pictured are simply not suitable for the type of work you suggest should take place, these machines are used to load vehicles with various types of materials and they are all fitted with grass cutting equipment and various other attachments, these are also used extensively during the winter period mainly to load salt into vehicles. You also make a fair point in terms of Springburn being one of the most deprived areas of the city where it seems that chronic under investment should be acceptable. I also agree that the blame lies squarely in the hands of the Labour Party, is this what they call working for the working people of Springburn. I have to admit as a Springburn boy born and bred I find this extremely sad.

They shut the gardens in the early 80’s due to finding bits of the structure that held the glass in place where crumbling the council was supposed to start work to fix this then decided it was going to cost too much money and left this grade A listed building to rot people actually applied for funding from the lotttery and the lottery refused the application and the council had plans to knock the gardens down till some guys got a webpage up and runnning to gather support to save the gardens this was why the clean up happened

To think that Glasgow city council actually done all this damage to the park they planted those reeds n long grass in the ponds and let them grow n grow they dumped tonnes upon Tonnes of soil into the old boating pond just so two swans could build a nest whats wrong with the duck pond theres more places for swans to nest there glasgow city council have done what they did to robroyston park let it grow out of control and call it not a recreational park but a wildlife park just so they dont need to bother their lazy fat arses keeping the park look good they still have the cheek to boast that springburn park has one of the best rock gardens in the country ive tried to fund an email address to complain about the state of the park but cant find one anywhere keep the good work up mate hopefully shame these fatcat bastards into doing something about this disgrace

Good video mate the patks been left to rot since the hot hoose was closed and left to fall apart another thing the council should be held accountable for seems to me because the parks in an area that the council clearly dont give a shit about its a case of outa sight outa mind park was great when a wis a boy growing up in the 70’s would go up the park and spend aw day there u has the boats the swings at the boating pond and the hothoose bowls pitch n put tennis courts the rockys when they wur nicely kept3-4 fitbaw pitches noo you have one play area and what ive never understood they have a bloody big cricket pitch in that park and in all my years ive never seen anyone play cricket on it!! Why havent they made it into a massive play n picnic area with zip slides chutes roonaboots

Thanks for the videos mate, very sad. I worked there for first part of my apprenticeship (August '83 till April '84...) with Glasgow District Council, before returning in '86 as a craftsman. It was a lovely park then but even at that point the decline was setting in. The Winter Gardens closed in early '83 (the then manager of the Winter Gardens was Barbara Pettigrew, whise husband David was our senior Training Officer), and by '85 new labour practices were in place to reduce costs. I think it was called DLO. The manager of the park itself, and surrounding district, was Davie Beattie, and I think, not entirely certain, that it was he who planted the wilderness stuff at the old duck pond round about then. To be fair, his motivation seemed to be to instill a conservation area. Obviously it wasn't managed well. Again, great video bud, if a bit grim. Hope something gets done...

I am heartbroken looking at the devastation of my childhood Springburn, where I was born and raised until the age of 18 years. Yes, Springburn Park was beautiful and I went fishing for minnows in the pond back in the late 50's. I live in Edinburgh now and was going to visit Adamswell Street Where I lived, but I just could not bear seeing it, after viewing it on my PC. Oh, money is tight the MP's will tell us, but we still send aid in the millions to 20 countries abroad that don't deserve it.

I really love what your doing!! My husband and me have been going up and taking pics of primarily the winter gardens and tallisman across the road to try and spread some awareness.....Big amounts of money coming into Glasgow but none coming up to Springburn, its a disgrace.

This is pure neglect by the council mate. I have been in many parks in Glasgow around the city centre and none of them are as bad as Springburn park. I salute you for these videos showing the neglect and your interactions with the local council. They will not listen when money is tight. you need a larger voice to get the council to take action. I am a horticultural student and garden designer. I can see so much potential for this park and make it the hub of the community again. Good work
