THE SPELLSHOP by Sarah Beth Durst, read by Caitlin Davies
Caitlin Davies performs Sarah Beth Durst’s enchanting fantasy story about a reclusive librarian finding her way home. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile’s Emily Connelly discuss the fun of listening to this magical audiobook. Academic librarian Kiela has lived in the Great Library of Alyssium for years, caring for the Empire’s spellbooks with only a sentient spider plant named Caz for company. When the fires of the Revolution reach the library, they escape by sea to her secluded childhood home with a few crates of precious books. Could she use their magical knowledge to aid the struggling islanders without risking her safety? And why are they all so friendly?? Davies uses a prim yet empathetic narration that suits the introverted librarian and brings the colorful cast of characters to life for listeners.

Absolutely one of the finest performances of audio book narration by an actor I have ever known. And I listen to a lot of audiobooks. You were truly outstanding. We listen to PHM at least once a year. Thank you Ray, for your work on this, our most cherished audiobook.
squid game
A magnificent narrator’s voice! 🎉
I wish your voice sounded like it sounds here on audio book recordings. The production is not great on Briar Club; your voice is very gravelly and whispery. It sounds GREAT here in comparison. There are times when it sounds like your words are stuck in your throat and is hard to understand.
Looks very interesting!! Love the title.
Tom 😍💪
The book was incredible. I listen to all the Twilight audiobooks at night when I go to bed. I've read all the books 3x and continue to enjoy them.
I’ve gone to deep into political youtube💀
Through observing and identifying and “correcting” for differences between groups of people we are cast into tribes further dividing into in and out groups that creates resentment and hate amoungst each other. Oppressor vs oppressed some might say. Pretty much the undoing of society, no big deal. Odd that it’s so hard to see for some.
Way too deep! I think there’s groups that meet weekly for this kind of issue
man sameeee
Wonderful narration. When you voiced Stephan saying “no” while holding the poker, my heart broke a little.
Like the setting!
Love how authors get these ideas for stories! It’s like magic!
✨Agreed.
Hi Suzy! I love listening to the audiobooks you've narrated: "Demon King" and (by the way, this is easily my favorite book series!) "Mystwick!" I can't get enough of Mystwick- you bring Amelia to life!
Happy Holidays! ❤
Thank you, and best wishes for the new year!
@ the same to you, thank you! ☺️
@ you are very kind
Cool to meet the narrator like this! Sounds heartwarming.
A good romance is always nice, and this one sounds fun! 🥰😚💋🎄
An ambitious listener could just squeeeeze it in before New Year's! 😉
@@AudioFileMagazine If said listener wanted to accept that challenge, where would they go to find this story? ;) It’s going to be tight, but hopefully satisfying!
@@SuperMar10GalaxyBro Oh sorry I didn't see this before NYE! Happy New Year! I always recommend Libro.FM, or your local library, for the latest releases!
@@AudioFileMagazine it is totally okay! 😌 ☺️ Thank you for your kindness!!
@@AudioFileMagazine Libro is new to me, and I’m excited to hopefully check it out soon! Library is also a great suggestion, thank you! 😊
I loved The Women and almost wish I had listened to it for my first read! May have to revisit to hear Julia’s adaptation.

This sounded like a good one! Great gift idea!
Love these books I’m currently listening to this one . But the post box used on the cover is not from the era It’s our late queen’s cipher E11R & wasn’t used until she came on the throne in 1652
Cool gadget! Any alternative to the smartphone, right? 🎉😊🧸
Right in time for the holiday season! Thank you, Michele! 💝 🥰
Young Adult can be fun! 🤩 🎉😊
I read the first books in this series and was so disappointed in this audiobook. I’m sure Jennifer Ikeda is wonderful but the shrill, shrewish, voices she likes to use put me off completely. I wish narrators would read the books instead of trying to prove they’re “performers”. Diana deserves better
What is a Golden Voice Narrator? Your voice is nice too, Michele.
You can check out this year's Golden Voice announcement on Publisher's Weekly for details: www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/awards-and-prizes/article/95147-audiofile-magazine-announces-2024-golden-voice-award-winners.html
@@AudioFileMagazine oh cool! Thank you very much for that!
@@AudioFileMagazine it’s more than just their voice, but also their acting it looks like. Really neat! Like the Oscars for audiobooks (and also looks at variety of roles which is unique). Again, appreciate you sending that my way!

Worst mistake was you narrating the undead .. absolutely awful..Dan Morgan was way better
Is this the same joe jameson who narrated the undead on audible?
