How to install VMware Workstation 17 Player on Ubuntu 23.10
Is there any to have the product key for free? I clicked on Vnware Fusion 13 trial, but it always asks for the product key :)
The product is available for free yes. Since broadcom purchased VMware you have to goto broadcom now to get a free licence key. Hope that helps!
im on Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS , and trying to install vmware workstation 17.5.2 , have been through lot of fixing kernel error . your approach took me to close but still i ran into same error. what could be problem here ?
This fix does only work on Ubuntu 23.10 unfortunately and VMware player is NOT supported on later versions of Ubuntu. I've personally moved to using VirtualBox, very simple install on Ubuntu: ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html
How loud is the fan?
The built in case fan is not very loud at all, I haven’t measured it so this is just my opinion. I would say the fan on the active cooler is louder than the case fan though. That said the active cooler does seem to provide more cooling.
Not working for me, using Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS and WS - 17.5.1
This fix only works for 23.10 and sadly Broadcom does not support workstation player on Ubuntu 24.04. I have personally switched over to using Virtualbox, its an easy install on Ubuntu: ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html
Excellent RPi5 information. The RPi5 should run OpenCV a little better than the RPi4. Thank you.
Absolutely it should, haven't used the PI 5 for this. I have been playing with the Coral USB device though, gives some great results also.
Is there an updated version to install the VMware Fusion player, as the website has updated?
Not currently, but I am planning on doing one in the next couple of weeks.
Hello, I have now tried this with 22.04 23.04 and 24.04 and VMware version 17.0.2 but it does not work. I have done all the steps but when I click on ‘install’ (on the dialogue 5:09) I still get the error and VMware does not start. Can you help me?
Hello, this fix only works with the specific versions in the video, additionally Broadcom no longer supports vmware player on newer ubuntu either. They now offer a supported version of VMware Workstation for free on the latest Ubuntu. I have personally moved onto using VirtualBox and can highly recommend that: ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html
Excellent Orange Pi5 overview video. Do you have a video on the Orange Pi5 GPIOs. The PWM servo motor control and the I2C pins are very interesting. 🦖 Thank you.
Thanks, I don't have a video on this currently, the Orange PI certainly is a very interesting board that in some areas really excels over the Raspberry PI. Again thank you for the lovely comment.
Is there any way of enabling hibernation ? , I searched about it online and people said we can't because of a bug
I have seen a few post regarding issues with certain motherboards and hopefully some of this is fixed with the next point release (due 29th August 2024). However a common issue is not having a SWAP area, so that is worth checking.
Nice video, I never knew Ubuntu had an upgrade tool. Nice to know this.
Very well done ma'am, thank you for your hard work. Very good video.
I hope you can assist me with this issue.... I have installed mint on my windows system, however I can't seem to get my mint system to see the windows system in VB. I have made the essential changes in VB created system setup for my Mint, however, it wont seem to allocate a shared file so I can transfer data between. Can you assist with this?
I have found the shared folders function doesn't work sometimes. The usual cause is not having the 'VirtualBox guest additions' installed and running in your VM. Another option is to use a USB stick that you can attach directly to your VM and then back to your host workstation. Hope this helps.
Good video, explains well why it is important to update and how to.
I am new to the Raspberry Pi. Would you think of doing a video about Samba, or how to network a Raspberry Pi to a Windows machine. Or to get each to see the other's NAS drives. Hope I am not asking for too much.
This is an interesting idea, thanks for the suggestion - I will see what I can do.
One more suggestion, do you think it is worthwhile to do a video on how to edit command lines with arrow keys? So much is done in Linux with command line.
The command line is very useful, and I would like to do more on the subject - again thanks for the suggestion 😁
Thanks my lady.... Subscribed.... God bless your efforts...
Thanks for subscribing!😁
theirs guides online that use OVMF and swtpm to enable secure boot/TPM for virtual machines, instead of doing the bypass method
How can I receive the license, please? When I click on "Get a Free License Key", the website doesn't work.
Unfortunately the link on the VMware site no longer works and you have to get it from Broadcom now.
This is merely the easy part. I spent hours in figuring out how to remotely connect to the VM via spice. GNOME Boxes has so few options.
GNOME Boxes is simple application and doesn't have lots of options, however you can install virt manager and get more control over the VM's created in GNOME Boxes. Another idea maybe to use VirtualBox instead. If you install the additional tools then you can use the built in RDP server to access your VM: ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html
Darn it! I knew there were extra few registry keys that were missing!!! >:T Thank you so much!
You're welcome!!
You saved me a lot of struggle and lifetime! I had a smooth install! 🙏
Im so glad this helped, Gnome Boxes is an excellent tool for experimenting with Linux VM's
Good guide, but Microsoft made it so that it takes you back to the "Sign in with a Microsoft Account" screen after failing it. So, all you have to do is Shift + F10, type in: OOBE\BYPASSNRO Then the PC reboots, then press Shift + F10 again, and type in: ipconfig /release Then close the Command Prompt. Doing all of that, you'll be able to select "I don't have internet" and set it up without a Microsoft account.
Can youbtest with ai hat?
I don't have an AI hat, I do have a USB3 TPU though. However My TPU at least is very low memory and not quite good enough for these models.
Wow. Cool! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Very clearly described, good info. Are you an instructor?
Thank you for this lovely comment, it made my day! I try my best to be clear and just give the information that is needed.
great video! I am going to run though the steps myself, to be better versed about AI. Well explained and clear presentation.
Thank you for the lovely comment. I think playing around with these tools is a great start to know what is possible. Have fun!
😃 super Anleitung, funktioniert, mehrere Versuche mit Ubuntu 24 und dazugehörigen Anleitungen schlugen mit Fehlern fehl. Hier Ubuntu 23 installiert u. VMWare bundle VMware-Workstation-Full-17.5.2-23775571.x86_64.bundle genutzt = funktioniert !
Thank you for this video !
Is it worth doing a video about backing up the installation of HA, and/or migrating an installation from a Pi 4 to a Pi 5? I would be interested.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Very good video. I am new to Home Assistant and I will use your instruction in making an automation.
This is a great video! I bought my first Raspberry PI 5 a week ago and this was very helpful in getting me started. There are a few videos (like this one) that I watch several times because it is so helpful. I have subscribed.
Thats great news, I'm so glad it helped and thanks for the sub.
What is the System kernel?
Hi, just so you know, VMware workstation player is not supported on later versions of Ubuntu. This fix only worked for these specific versions. VMware workstation now has a different licence and is worth taking a look at. Hope it helps.
Can we install Metasploitable 2 on MacOs in VMWare ?
host error
Likely that you version of Ubuntu is not supported. This said I would probably recommend having a look at Virtual Box instead - ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html
Hi, I've ran all the commands and VMware Workstation still gives me the same error as before. Any idea why?
Are you using a newer version of Ubuntu? This fix only works for Ubuntu 23.10 and I dont think support will come for Ubuntu 24.04 for VM player. I have personally moved on to using Virtual Box on linux, the install is very straightforward ( ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html )
Thank you - best simple video on how to set up Home Assistant on a Rasberry Pi 5 - I have seen (recently retired Australian).
Thank you so much for this lovely comment, I'm really glad it helped.
Works perfectly on mac, easy instructions. Thanks!!
I'm so glad it helped! thanks for the comment.
I can't find the page, does someone have the link?
Thank you for this excellent straightforward no-nonsense guide, I now have Windows 11 up and running. I missed the part about getting around signing into Microsoft and signed in, am I able to go back to put that right without uninstalling everything and starting again?
You don't have to have to change anything if it is working nicely. Glad it helped.
thanks a lot! this was super helpful
Awesome. This is it. That´s what I need to learn.
If I try to install VM on boxes it shows !Opps No kvm ? what's the solution?
Check to make sure your user account is a member of the KVM group.
Thank you for this tutorial, Unfortunately it was a no go on PopOS 22.04 and VMware 17.5.2. I think I am going to just give up on Pop OS and try it directly on the latest Ubuntu version. Thanks again!
So I used Ubuntu 24.04 and VMware 17.5.2. It could not find libaio1 so instead I used libaio-dev which worked. I followed your steps but still says unable to compile those 2 files. I have been messing with linux off and on for years. It always feels like the do stuff like this on purpose to get people to move back to windows lol :P
This fix does only work for 23.10 but I may consider doing a video for the newer Ubuntu shortly. Thanks for the comment
@@LadyTechTalks It worked for me on Ubuntu 24.04 but my containers don't have network connection. I wonder if that's related in anyway....(btw it was a vmware workstation pro install not workstation player.
@@earlem9771 Sounds like its related to the VMware network service. If you get the latest version of pro from Broadcom I *think* it is supported. I would recommend having a look at Virtualbox, the install is very simple on Ubuntu: ua-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/v-deo.html
@@LadyTechTalks I do have the latest version of Workstation Pro but it doesn't work. Thanks though
Do you need anything besides the board/hardware to boot the OS? Like do you need fans? Heatsink? Anything?
I mostly didn't use a fan or heatsink when I tested this board, however when I was testing the performance I attached a random 5v fan above the SOC to add some cooling. If I was running it long term I would probably recommend a heatsink and fan to make sure it maintained maximum performance.
Very nice, thanks! Could you try to install macOS Catalina or Monterey with Gnome Boxes? cheers
Nothing happens when I press shift + f10. Can you help me?
A couple of thinks to check, make sure you have the window of the virtual machine active by clicking your mouse on the windows installer box inside the virtual machine. Its also possible that if you have a Mac keyboard that you may need to press FN+F10+Shift to get the key combination to work. Make sure you press shift and F10 at the same time.
Good video, can u make a Video how to load Secureboot keys
Thanks for the comment, I will look into that for future videos.
Amazing!! This worked like a charm!! Many, many thanks to you.
Hey :) thank you for sharing I was curious about this and happy to find your Video. I had to watch this with no Audio since i am in class at the moment so I dont know if you already answered this but did you enable pcie 3 when switching to the NVME?
Thanks for the comment. I didn't enable PCIe 3 actually but that is a good point, I wonder if inferencing would be faster? I did want to keep the setup as stable as possible.
E: Package 'libaio1' has no installation candidate
This should be available in standard repo's. Are you using Ubuntu 23.10? - This said you don't need to install libaio1, you can continue without. Details of the package: packages.ubuntu.com/mantic/libaio1
@@LadyTechTalks okay
